File Size Limitation
I am running Samba on a debian box. I have recently installed Ext3 in order to allow for large files. I am also running samba 2.2.2-2 on the box. I am able to create a file natively on linux that is about 5 gigs or so. Yet I seem to be running into a problem when I try to create a file larger then 4 gigs from my Win2k box. Is this a know issue? Is there a work around for it. The file is a

Samba and Win98 dail up connection
I have a home network with my dial up connection on the windows 98 machine. Since I have installed SAMBA and configured the computers to see each other, I can no longer pull up a website on the windows 98 machine. The problem is that I have assigned a permanent IP address for the Intranet. I have to use DHCP for the dail up connection. Therefore the IP address that I assign to Windows machine

passwd chat problem
I could not find any reference to this in the list archive. I am setting up SAMBA on an IRIX system. The passwd command does not say "Password changed" or similar at the end, it just ends. However, if the command fails for any reason (unable to get a lock on the passwd file, for example) it does report that. My problem is that I cannot see any way to get the passwd chat string to

Win2K can't print to a Samba Printer?
Hello, ** Please CC replies to ian@ichilton.co.uk as I am not subscribed ** I have a Brother laser printer connected to a linux box running Samba. It is working fine from Win98 workstations, but now I have Win2K on my laptop, I am unable to print. This is because the linux box obviously doesn't have the win2k driver so I tried to install it as a local printer and then change it to a network

"Unexpected network error" copying large files NT->Linux?
Folks -- I've read the FAQ at samba.org/samba/docs/FAQ, I've searched the mailing list archives for "unexpected network error", I've searched Google for "samba unexpected network error", and been unable to find anything. If there's another source of information that I should check, I'd greatly appreciate a pointer. I'm trying to copy files to Samba

Who else can reproduce this problem?
I truely believe I've stumbled across a bug deleting directories. The bug is either with Windows 2000 or with Samba 2.2.1a and 2.2.2. I'd tend to think it was a Windows bug except that the problem does not occur against earlier versions of Samba. I've duplicated this problem deleting directories to Samba versions 2.2.2 and 2.2.1a in various configurations running on several

smbmount question
Hi, I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around, almost like a daemon: [root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau -c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out [root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount 10678 ? Anybody have a binary version of SJava for rw2001 (Windows)?
I am not a techie and have been struggling 2 days solid to try and install SJava (the source from http://www.omegahat.org/RSJava/). Does anybody have a binary file for me (I am Windows XP and rw2001)? I have tried installing Perl, mingwin and the cygwin tools but still no luck. When I try “R CMD INSTALL c:\SJava_0.78-0.tar.gz” I get the following (and haven’t a clue what it could mean):

USB2.0/Firewire Enclosure
I (work :) bought a USB2.0/Firewire enclosure and I had a little trouble with it until I came across this page http://people.freebsd.org/~maho/USB/comment/ku350a.txt after trying the sysctl things work well. I haven't tried the USB2.0 side of it, as I don't have any USB2.0 controllers. The Firewire bit works great too (quite a bit faster than USB1 :) The enclosure in question is made

RSync on Netware
Hello, I have ported rsync 2.5.5 to Netware and would like to, at least, contribute the binary so that people can download it. It says on the website to use the bug tracking system to do this, but since that isn't working, I thought I would try this. Thanks for any help or direction. Lee

Vorbis over RTP
Hi. I got bored of writing papers last week so I decided to write an app for sending and receiving multicast vorbis streams over RTP. A first version is available here: http://www.cdt.luth.se/~rolle/vorbis/ (I use the JOrbis decoder, so you need Java 2 with Javasound, e.g. JDK1.3. Since the decoding is done in Java, you probably need at least 300-350 MHz. Works with the IBM JDK1.3 on Linux on a

File Permissions
I have set up Samba so that all users on my small network can read from my one of my Linux shares as well as write to that share. However, when user A saves a file to that share, user B can't open it -- and vice versa. How can I set up samba so that all files written to that share can be read, modified, and deleted by all users? Thanks in advance for an answer to this question.
