samba and pam
Since I now have something which at least pretends to work, I suppose an announcement is in order. Those among you who track samba development are probably aware that samba 1.9.18p4 includes support for synchronising a unix database when changing an SMB password. I'm currently working on a PAM module which will provide similar functionality for all applications compiled with PAM support:

Howdy all: Thanks to Jerry Carter for correcting some of my earlier babbling. And thanks to Stephen Langasek <vorlon@netexpress.net> and "Sean E. registering icecast server in shoutcast directory?
I'm running darkice-0.15 to stream live mp3 encoded audio to icecast2-2.2.0_1,1 on a FreeBSD 4.10 machine and everything is working great. Now that I have my icecast stream server set up, I would like to register it in the shoutcast directory. Is this possible? I see the icecast.xml entries to register with the xiph.org and oddsock.org directory servers, but I can't find any examples

for this process is "root", that is correct. The PID 7247 is one of the users, but the UID shouldn't be "root" and should be the username that was authenticated during logon. Anyone have same or similar problem? and how do I prevent this problem from happening again? I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Will Sun wsun@jpl.nasa.gov (818) 354-2311 Return-Path:

TEST 3 If you get a "connection refused" response then the smbd server may not be running. If you installed it in inetd.conf then you probably edited that file incorrectly. If you installed it as a daemon then check that it is running, and check that the netbios-ssn port is in a LISTEN state using "netstat -a". Note: You have xinetd not inetd on the redhat box. General browseability of samba shares
Hi all, I have samba-2.2.7a installed on fresh install of RH9. I have samba running. From an NT4.0 server I can browse both the shares and the printer installed on the samba server box. However I cannot browse from the Win2K box sitting next to it. I can do a "net use p: //SAMBASERVER/public /user:maindesk " and then authenticate from the w2k computer with password.

Why can't I see this share machine in Network Neighborhood
Help! I have a simple home network. I have samba [2.2.7a] running with the smb.conf file listed below. I can see this machine in network neighborhood on a Win98 machine and a WinNT 4.0 machine, but I cannot see this share from a Win2K machine. If I issue a net use command from the cmd window on the Win2K machine I can mount the share and then open it as normal. WHY can't I see

ps -ef | grep mbd reports only mbd
Again, Following Carter's book, and after starting smbd and nmbd with " smbd -D ; nmbd -D" I do a "ps -ef | grep mbd". Only nmbd is report with it's PID. smbd never is reported. Jerry's book [2nd ed.] states that both should show up with their respective PIDs. I have searched through over one hundred pages of documentation and cannot find the answer as to
