transfer users and password form win NTto linux files erver
Once you have the samba set up with winbind (use samba 3.0alphaxx), you
could use getent passwd and getent group to get all the users and group
information. There are freeware nt password cracking programs that you can
use if you are admin on the nt box to crack and get a list of all users'
passwords. I suppose you could create then all the users and groups on the
samba box. Have a look at

Machine accounts, Samba 3, NT Domain migration
Greetings everyone
I finally succeeded in doing the seemingly most difficult thing, "following directions." I got my act together configuring the smb.conf and migrating using net rpc vampire into tdbsam. There are issues with this migration in which computer netbios names which are obviously all uppercase were not being created in /etc/passwd. I put my C cap on and converted the computer

pwdump on german NT
Hi,
I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german
version of NT4SP3.
I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group
'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is
hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional
parameter?
Unfortunately, I have no access to a C-Compiler on an NT-station, so

NT username/password export
Sorry for all the newbie questions...
I could have sworn I saw something about a utility that exports the SAM
database from NT into Linux..
seems like it is the lego syndrome, saw it while doing WINBIND searches,
can't find it elsewise...anyway...could someone point me in the right
direction?
I want to export my users from NT to linux with passwords....if that is
impossible, I also have all

Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
Hello all,
I hope this is an easy one, I've read all the howtos but I'm still very hazy
on how to do this. What I want to do is replace my NT4 PDC with a Samba 3.0
PDC with an LDAP backend.
I've got my OpenLDAP up and running with the basic People, Computers and
Groups ou's.
I've put the builtin NT groups in too.
I have Samba 3.0 functioning as a BDC

Question about shares...
Hi to all !
I'm confronted to the following problem :
I have a Linux box (SuSE 6.4 running kernel 2.2.14 & smb 2.0.7).
I have configured smb to be the master for domain named essaismb.
When I connect to this domain from a windows 98 box, it works fine.
However, all the PC that are in my firm are not (yet) configured
to connect to this domain.
At that moment, they connect to a win NT 4.0

Transparent migration of users to a samba PDC, how about cygwin tool ?
Hi,
I would like to migrate from NT PDC to a Samba PDC.
My main concern is that all my users have local profile (i.e. there is
no roaming profiles). It seems that users profiles on a workstation are
not valide when migrating to the Samba PDC. It seams that the users
cannot keep the same identity. On the other hand, I would really like
to change PDC without users noticing anything.

Migrating WINNT to SAMBA PDC
Hello Everyone,
I have read all the man pages and the "HOW-TO-PDC..." related to the
operation and configuration of SAMBA. I don't however, see anything
detailing a move away from WinNT to SAMBA PDC. Can someone point me to a
doc or website that has helped them migrate as smooth as possible? I heard
there is a way of grabbing passwords using pwdump, users uid, and the Domain
ID.

machine group and pwdump.exe
Hi,
1. I want to migrate NT to Samba 3 domain without needing to rejoin all machine (using same domain name and SID). just curious, machine account should belong to what group sid? does it matter if belong to any value?
2. I just examine output of pwdump, some of member domain or even NT BDC is has "*****" in password field which means this account was disabled.
I've verified that

Copy Passwords from Active Directory to Samba
Hello,
I'm migrating from Windows 2003 Active Directory to a Samba 3 PDC and
would like to avoid recreating passwords for all of my users. Is it
possible to copy the Windows user accounts or just the passwords from
the Windows box to Samba?
I've read about the pwdump.exe tool, but can't find any reports of it
working on Windows 2003 and am not sure if Active Directory stores

Converting from NT DC to Samba DC?
Hi all,
I am in the process of setting up a test network to test samba as a DC
with the acct information stored in LDAP (2.2.3a). The ultimate goal is to
replace the nt4 (P,B)DC we have on the network now with a samba DC. I have read about the
uid gid scheme of uid *2+1000 = rid but I am a little confused. If I use
pwdump to dump the existing sam database I get numbers like 1036 for the

Samba as BDC in NT domain
I have this problem: there is a subnet 192.168.6.0/24 and the gateway is
192.168.6.1 which has also another nic 172.21.13.123 which belongs to
subnet 172.21.13.0 where the PDC of NT-domain is. GW does NAT and it
causes that computers/users in subnet 192.168.6.0 cant logon to NT-domain.
Is it possible to put Samba in GW machine so that it can be a backup domain
controller in NT-domain and it uses

Replacing NT4 PDC with Samba 2.2.2
Hi
Haven't seen any responses to my earlier post (Transferring PDC duties to
Samba) so here's a slightly different approach I'm trying which someone can
hopefully shed some light on.
Is it possible to transfer domain-specific data from an NT4 PDC to a Samba
2.2.2 server, switch off the NT4 machine, set up smb.conf, switch on the
Samba box such that the attached NT4/Win2000

pwload / reversed pwget
Hi,
I would be *VERY* interested in a reversed pwget (see
http://www.martnet.com/~johnny/exploits/microsoft/NT/WinNT.passwordhashes.deobfuscation.html)
to be able to automaticaly set first-time NT passwords
('smbpasswd -r' will only work if you first enter the 'previous'
password) on our PDC (evt. remote from UNIX through some tcp (ssh?)
connection).

SAM from NT BDC to Samba
Hello!!
A customer of mine recently experienced a catastrophic failure of their
PDC, and their BDC is not running as stable as we'd like. They've
agreed to move PDC/BDC schema to Linux (currently they run NT4).
So the question is: having ONLY a BDC available for SAM database, how do
I extract that so I can replicate that to Samba and do a "transparent"
upgrade (if possible)?

My question is: Is there a way that i can get to my nis client see the Nt users (via

Users and Share Drives migration from NT to Linux
Hello Everyone:
Hope you all had a nice Christmas!
I am facing a situation that I have never faced before. I have a the latest
version of Samba running on a RH Linux 6.2 and a Windows 2000 Domain
Controller that authenticates users and provide share drives for the
internal network, As the economy here in the US is downgrading, I am forced
to add more Linux server (as a replacement to Windows for

smbpasswd -w account
Hi,
I've setup Samba NT based networks with OpenLDAP database.
But to make sambas operations works fetching data to LDAP, it should have
an account on LDAP that able to write some objects, such as passwords
(when changing passwd) or object creation (when registering or joining to
directory) .The scope of this account is strong enough to any containers
on the directory, such as
