"smbd: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Can't contact LDAP server" and Samba shares are dropped
List, I am encountering some really strange behaviour with Samba 3.0.20 and OpenLDAP 2.2.28. Everything in terms of PAM and NSS has been working correctly for a long time and have not been changed in months. This week it has started playing up, with NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE type errors. The local ldap server is replicated from a master. In syslog, I see things like Jun 16 16:06:14 s-sophia smbd:

[GSoC'16] Add a Scheme Frontend for LLVM
Hi, everyone This proposal covers the OpenProjects idea 'Port the Bigloo Scheme compiler, from Manuel Serrano at INRIA Sophia-Antipolis, to output LLVM bytecode.' There is not a popular functional language frontend yet on LLVM. To my knowledge, this is mostly because LLVM is lack of runtime support for the functional language needs, and C foreign function interface calls are relatively

rsync through intermediate server
We have a number of scripts that use rsync to automate administration of a number our servers. We are adding servers that are not directly network accessible to our main admin box. That is, we have to go through an intermediate machine to reach these new machines. I've seen how you can string ssh commands together to copy commands through an intermediate machine. Does anyone know of a

Possible new rsync bug
Hello, I think I found a bug in rsync. I checked the TODO and the issues, but I didn't find any reference to it. It seems, that rsync goofes up, if you rename a directory and then create a symlink with the old name to the new location. Below is a simple example how to do it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [ptriller] elmore:~/test > ls

Domains: Pros and Cons?
I have Samba running without a PDC and I have some questions about the advantages for implementing one with Samba vs. the problems and disadvantages. Perhaps some kind souls can help me determine whether I should do this or not. We have three offices connected by a Checkpoint VPN, plus people "on the road" using their SecureClient tool. We want everyone to be able to get to all the

R function for computing Simultaneous confidence intervals for multinomial proportions
Dear all, Does someone know an R function implementing the method of Sison and Glaz (1995) (see full ref below) for computing Simultaneous confidence intervals for multinomial proportions? As alternative method, I think to boostrap the mean of each proportion and get in that way confidence interval of the mean. I observed 21 times a response that could be one out of 8 categories

Dear R users, I am running a maximum likelihood model with optim. I chose the simulated annealing method (method="SANN"). SANN is not performing bad, but I guess it would be much more effecive if I could set the `parscale' parameter. The help sais: `parscale' A vector of scaling values for the parameters. Optimization is performed on `par/parscale' and these
