dos?
I have an old dos app that doesn't run in the win95 shell very well.
There are problems with the graphics.
Is it possible to connect to a samba server from real dos? I assume the
answer is no but I thought I would check.

msclient and Case
Hello Everyone,
I recently installed a MSCLIENT machine each time it writes to my samba
2.04b share it produces all uppercase filenames. Is the best way to handle
this with
"preserve case = yes/no" controls if new files are created with the case
that the client passes, or if they are forced to be the "default" case.
Default Yes.
"short preserve case = yes/no"

PXELINUX keeppxe mem footprint
Hi,
I want to use PXELINUX to load a DOS disk image which I currently use for
Win2K/XP unattended installs. I want to move away from reliance on specific
NDIS2 drivers and use the 3Com UNDIS3C driver instead. I have used this
successfully to start the MSClient, but the problem is that the UNDI and PXE
layer take about 90K of base memory, which means that WINNT.EXE has
insufficent memory to run

Windows 3.1 and Samba
Has anybody got some experience with connecting machines running Windows3.1
or WfWG (3.11) to Samba? We would like to run a small lab network with
user accounts and a shared printer off the samba box. Samba is running fine
and there's no problem to connect to it from the Win95/WinNT machines...
Any help appreciated.

Adobe Photoshop uses wrong permissions when saving, default ACLs and create mask being ignored.
One of our employees is having an odd problem with Adobe Photoshop. Files
he saves with Photoshop are saved with permissions 777, completely ignoring
both the create mask and the default ACL for the directory. Files he
creates with other programs have the correct permissions. This has me
stumped. It appears I can reproduce the problem at will.
Client is Windows NT 4.0 SP6a and Adobe Photoshop

Why am I getting this error?
I've been getting this one for a while, but since it doesn't seem to be
causing any problems I'm just now getting around to asking about it. I'm
sure it's something really dumb I'm overlooking, I just need another set of
eyes to spot it for me.
In log.smbd, many times a day:

using pam_winbind to authenticate PPP?
I'm trying to set up a Linux-based dialin server on our company network.
I'd like to have PPP authenticate using winbindd, if possible. I feel like
I've almost gotten it to work, but I can't quite get there. Files:
/etc/pam.d/ppp:
#%PAM-1.0
auth required pam_nologin.so
auth sufficient /lib/security/pam_winbind.so
account required

Permissions problem...I must be overlooking *something*...
I have a share I can't seem to create files on, and I can't figure out why.
I get "Access denied" from Windows, and the samba log shows this:

open_directory: failing create on read-only share

PDC cannot become master browser; cannot change passwords
I am having two problems, possibly related, while performing
pre-deployment testing of a Samba/OpenLDAP PDC with data that was
vampired from an NT4 PDC. The Samba server fails to become a local
master browser, and password change attempts (from a Windows client) fail.
I followed Samba-Guide/ntmigration.html (taking some liberties with
various items of configuration), ending with step #19.

Using memdisk to remotely flash BIOS
I am using memdisk to remotely flash the BIOS and other firmware. It works well
for most flash programs. After the flash I need to initialize the NIC to send a
signal to my management server that the flash is complete.
I am curious as to how others have solved this problem.
Thanks.

Re: Winbindd question/problem
Hmm...have you joined the Samba machine to the domain, using smbpasswd -j?

"chdir failed" - could someone please explain what this error mea ns?
For some time now I've had this type of error showing up in my logs:
[2004/09/16 11:52:08, 0] smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56)
chdir (/export/downloads) failed
I've Googled, I've looked at the source, and I still can't understand why
this error appears. What's really odd is that everything seems to work
fine, in spite of the error. Could someone please explain what

udp broadcast over ipsec
Hello all,
I am configuring a vpn between freeswan and windows 2000. I am following the steps at http://www.jacco2.dds.nl/networking/win2000xp-freeswan.html, to get the VPN up and running. using this I have a ppp tunnel between windows and linux, which is inside a l2tp tunnel which is again encrypted by IPSec. (the url gives the configuration in detail and I have followed it exactly)

Some users can't log in -- server shows username as "nobody"
Okay, this is a recurring problem that really has me frustrated.
I have a samba server that's using security=server. There are four people
who use it. It works fine for three of them, but the fourth one gets
endlessly prompted for his password and is never allowed to log in. All are
from NT 4.0 clients.
What's really puzzling is that when I look at the log at debug level 2, I
get the

PDF printing problem - can't find Samba's file?
I'm sure this is something simple, but I can't figure it out.
After a printing system upgrade, my old PDF-writer script (which acted as an
lp input filter) stopped working. I took this as an opportunity to rewrite
it to work straight from Samba. But I'm having an odd problem -- I can't
find Samba's job file. Here's the entry:
