Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have NT Workstation 4.0 sp5 use domain logons with Samba? I would like to use logon scripting with my NTWS. Thanks, Ron Brinker

Install new version of Samba on Redhat Linux
Hello, I want to setup a Samba PDC on a RedHat Linux6.0 for NTWS, but I got some problems, could anybody has ideas? RedHat 6.0 include samba version 2.0.3. And 2.0.3 seems cannot be a PDC for NTWS. So I tired to download and install a newer version of Samba (2.0.6 and CVS). After I install the newer version, I found that it still cannot be a PDC for NTWS (cannot found the PDC), also I found

owner of a smbd thread
Hi, I've set up a Samba server accessed by NTWS 4. When I do a "ps aux" on the server, i can see a line for each user connected with a "smbd -D" command. The owners of these commands are mostly root but sometimes the users themselves. How to force the owner of the command in order to be available to get a list of connected users with an "ps aux" and an

samba pdc/roving profiles/encrypted passwords
It is my understanding that roving profiles cannot be implemented without using encrypted passwords. It is also my understanding that encrypted passwords cannot be implemented without pointing smb.conf to a windows password server. I'm trying to set up a samba server on a Linux (RedHat 7.3) to act as a PDC and a provider for roving profiles - when I do things with cleartext (encryption

Version 1.9.18p8
I've recently installed Version 1.9.18p8 on a V2.6 Solaris x86 box. This system has an 8GB disk that I'm sharing out using Samba. After I map this share to a drive letter on my V4 NTWS, the properties for this drive reports that it is only 4GB. Is this a known "bug"? Other than the bogus information, will it have any adverse affects after the disk fills up to exceed 4GB used?

Long Share Names and Windows NT Workstation 4.0
Hello, Can anyone advise if there is a limit on the length of share names in Samba when accessing via NT Workstation 4.0 clients? It seems that the limit is 12 characters for NT, our Windows 98, 2000 and XP machines work with longer share names. If so does anyone know if there is a patch to make long share names work with NTWS 4.0? Best regards, Keith

Office2K & file overwriting problems
Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian Linux, kernel 2.4.21. 1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem. 2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New). 3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Book1.xls' is not a valid file name." 4. Click

"smbd -D" gone wild ...
Hi, I've a huge problem with Samba. It's the PDC of the school LAN. Clients are NTWS 4. Samba has been up and running for 11 days and now, since 2 days, force me to reboot the whole server everyday to work. I explain : when doing an "ps aux" or "smbstatus", i saw A LOT of "smbd -D" started for the same user 10 times in about 2 minutes. When I try to kill

User list problem on Win9x.
I'm a bit confused about user enumeration on Win9x boxes. I've got a couple of machines running SaMBa. One (M2Dual) is running 2.0.7 with security = domain and domain server = M2Hub. The other (M2Hub) is running 2.2.3a with security = user. I also have three Win9x machines. All have user level security turned on. Roving profiles work on all machines and all users. Logon scripts run

lmb can't sync browse list with dmb, find_domain_master_name_query_fail
Hello. Browsing accross subnets fails because "route2-3" can't sync its local browse list with the domain master browser "classix", which is also the WINS server. Everything else is fine. There is 1 and only 1 WINS server (classix) and no NT server. The error message in nmb log of route2-3 is: ==================================

NT Controller NETLOGON script hosing connects to Samba shares
Hello to all, Please forgive me if I seem naiive, but I'm a unix admin and don't do much with NT. We have an NT network here and a number of Unix servers. I manage the Unix end, someone else the NT network. I offer up homedirs and other shares to the NT clients to make their lives easier. Until recently, I set my Samba servers up with security=domain and set the password server param

PDC/Roving Profiles/and Password Encryption
Hi All, Well, despite my general idiocy I've managed to get PDC and roving profiles working perfectly in my test situation. Obviously, this isn't good enough since computers are the devil, so I've run into some more problems. Fortunately for the Samba team, this isn't a problem with Samba - I think it's more a problem with how our network is set up here. Basically,

Will samba work on Linux/486 with heavy swapping?
I'm very sorry about posting HTML. I know better then that and should have double checked my defaults. I'm reposting this hoping someone Is there a known bug that samba has on older machines in low memory environments? I have set up a 486 with 24Mb of memory with RedHat 7.1. I set it up to run dhcpd, xinetd, and samba. Samba was not run through xinetd. The samba server had a tendency

Samba 2.2 -> 3.0.0 upgrade: questions + Internet Connection Wizard / Identities
Hello, I just upgraded from Samba 2.2.7 to Samba 3.0.0 on RedHat 9. I did this by uninstalling the 2.2.7 samba RPM's and then applying the Samba 3.0.0 RPM from samba.org, then putting my local changes back into smb.conf. I have also migrated my smb users from smbpasswd to tdbsam with the pdbedit utility as discussed in the HOWTO. It seems I have to rejoin my client boxes (windows 2000 pro)

Set a login script but no profile?
Hello, I am so close!!! So far I have a Samba PDC that machines and users can log into, but here's the deal: I would like to find out how to allow them to log on and receive their login script, but not use a roving profile. Here are my relevant settings as they are set right now: ; logon drive = x: ; logon home = "\\Gluon\Gluon G" ; logon path = \\Jupiter\Profile\%U encrypt

feature: RequiredAuthentications
Hi, probably an ignorant question, maybe I'm missing something ... Is there a way for a sshd server to be able to enforce both client host key authentication as well as user authentication, say for roving user-administered laptops. So a sysadmin can restrict access to allow only client hosts which can pass the HostbasedAuthentication tests, whatever the current IP name/address, but still

Little list of horrors.
Hi all, I was investigating the SMB signing problems between Win2k clients and Windows XP servers and thought I'd take a look to see if there were any hotfix patches for Win2k that were post service pack 2. I discovered this list.... : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com/support/ServicePacks/Windows/2000/Win2000_Post-SP2_Hotfixes.asp of *amazing*

Survival Analysis with two different events
Hello all, I am hoping to use survival analysis to examine whether parasite attack increases nest death in a species of social wasp. I therefore have data for 1. Whether the nest "died" in the 6 week census period ("Status", where 1=died, 0=survived) 2. The day number of death/last recorded day it was observed alive. 3. Whether the nest was attacked by the parasite (0/1 as
