Urgent Help pls - NT4.0 Term Server and SAMBA - RDR timeouts
Hello,
I'm new to this list.
The NT folk here, are concerned about some timeout errors and stuff that appear
in their event viewer. They are building a case to convince management that
unless these "samba" errors are fixed, we should move to NT file shares. I think
this is a bad idea. Can anyone help me out here.
We are running samba 2.0.6 (1st msg) and 2.0.5a (2nd err msg)

List assignment in a while loop and timing
Hello R users
I have question about the time involved in list assignment.
Consider the following code snippet(see below). The first line creates
a reader object,
which is the interface to 1MM key-value pairs (serialized R objects) spanning 50
files (a total of 50MB). rhsqstart initiates the reading and I loop, reading
each key-value pair using rhsqnextKVR. If this returns NULL, we switch to the

Win2k disconnects mapped samba shares
Hello,
I stepped through the archives of this list, but could not find a
thread dealing with exactly this problem we are experiencing here.
Server HP-UX 10.20 Samba 2.0.6
security = domain
deadtime = 500 ... that should be enough
The win2k clients map a drive and everything is working fine.
after a period of inactivity (about half an hour) win2k somehow disconnects

The following workaround may be helpful in your situation. In all cases, Microsoft strongly recommends that you install the updates for this vulnerability as soon as they become available even if you plan to leave this workaround in place:
Disable SMBv3 compression
You can disable compression to block

altering a global variable
I'm working on a program that loads several large data files. I'm
using ddply (plyr is really awesome) but I want to minimize the amount
of times a large data file is read in. One solution is to keep track
of which data file is open with a global variable and then change the
currently open data file globally as needed. However, I'm unclear on
how to alter a global variable

Problems Using the MultipleUsersOnConnection Registry Key in WTS NT4
Hi.
I am running SAMBA 2.0.7 on HP-UX 11.00 and HP-UX 10.20.
I have tried adding the MultipleUsersOnConnection registry key onto my
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4 Terminal Server Edition servers, running with
Service Pack 6. After I make this change in the registry and reboot my WTS
servers all my samba connections from the servers are still being made with
one process instead of being split

here's a fix for Goldmine (and other ISAM database based programs) on Windows NT/2000/XP clients talking to samba
Goldmine seems to a compiled database application compiled in something likeClipper.
Clipper applications record lock through ISAM like files (DBF).
However, in Windows NT/2000/XP, Opportunistic locking is turned on
by default in order to accelerate file transfer from file services.
[Windows 95/98 did not Opportunisticly lock]
However, opportunistic locking corrupts ISAM and ISAM like

SMB signing.
Hi all,
Is anyone using Windows SMB signing in a production environment ?
This is the signing proceedure created by setting the Registry keys
EnableSecuritySignature:1, RequireSecuritySignature: 1 in the lanmanserver
and lanmanworkstation parameters.
I'm playing with implementing this in Samba for 3.0, but am finding
that it doesn't seem to work when mixing Windows NT or Windows 2000

NullSessionShares under samba.
Hi,
Is there an equivalent setting in samba as the Windows NT/2000/XP registry
key -
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
\NullSessionShares
We have a Windows service that needs access to files on a samba share.
Setting the above key to the name of the share works well on Windows servers
but I can not find a way to do this under samba 2.2.1a.
Thanks

Auto-configure Samba to offer same shares as Windows on dual-boot machine

install&setup procedure which can set up samba shares by looking at what
a windows installation on the same computer does- say, by checking

where the directories being shared are mounted, matching printers to
those configured in Linux/etc, and offering

CTRL-C during .Call causes R to quit to command line
Hello,
During a .Call e.g
while(TRUE){
value <-rhsqnextKVR(rdr) ## has .Call in this function
if(is.null(value)) break;
}
if I press CTRL-C, R exits straight to the command line.
Q: How can I prevent this? I should point out that my library uses
JNI, so I'm not sure if that is causing it.
I'm using R-2.8 on Linux (RHEL 5)
Thank you in advance

low sigma in lognormal fit of gamlss
Hi,
I'm playing around with gamlss and don't entirely understand the sigma
result from an attempted lognormal fit.
In the example below, I've created lognormal data with mu=10 and sigma=2.
When I try a gamlss fit, I get an estimated mu=9.947 and sigma=0.69
The mu estimate seems in the ballpark, but sigma is very low. I get similar
results on repeated trials and with Normal and

help for windows 98
I'm writing because I had a problem with Samba, while installing it on some
of our computers with Windows 98 (beta 3).
We have an internal network not accessible from the outside, in which we
use the sending in the clear (I.E. not encrypted) of the access passwords
to Samba running on a Sun machine with Unix Solaris OS.
We use unencrypted passwords because Windows 95 doesn't support

gamlss results for EXP and LNO seem to have reversed AIC scores
Hi,
I'm a bit puzzled by the gamlss fitting of exponential and lognormal data.
Gamlss seems to think that exponentially distributed data fits better with a
lognormal distribution, and vice versa.
For example,
X <- rexp(1000)
Gexp <- gamlss(X~1,family=EXP) # X~1 is X tilde 1
