File changes not being written immediately
Our development team has been having the following issue for quite some time
and I cannot isolate the problem. I saw a similar posting in the archives
but there are no replies.
We are running Samba 2.0.7 on a RedHat 6.2 server and we connect to the
server from Windows 2000 desktops. We are editing files through a drive
mapped to a share on the server. The problem is when we save the file in the

Hi Marco
Try to veto oplocks for that file.
In the global section of your smb.conf, add the following
veto oplock files = /NTUSER.DAT/

Delays opening Excel/Word files off samba shares.
At my work, I've been pushing linux as a server solution for quite some
time. They've decided to give it a go, and the main company file server is
now a piii 933 with 512Mb RAM, a promise 6 channel RAID5 controller (IDE),
and 6 x 80Gb drives.
It's running RedHat 7.1 (with the usual kernel updates to 2.4.10), with
samba 2.2.1a and the latest Reiser FS...
Now at the moment, we

Help! Mysterious samba problem...
For some strange reason, a samba setup which was previously working has
suddenly stopped working, and I can't figure out why.
The symptoms is that attempts to write some files onto a samba
filesystem take a long time, and then error out with the error message
(in Windows dialog box):
"Cannot create or replace <filename>: The specified network resource or
device is no longer

Network access speed.
Good afternoon all,
I have a few questions, and just joined the list and plan on staying.
I had 2 Samba servers at work, both running apache, etc, that we develop on from work and at home over a vpn.
My vpn upload speed is 25K, and at one time windows 2000 could save a document in less than 4 seconds from across the vpn using textpad.
We recently downgraded our crappy 7.1 redhat versions to 6.2

Counting question
Hi All,
Here is something that sounds simple, but I'm having trouble getting it. I
have a data frame with two columns, the first is date and the second is
employee ID. I'd like to plot date on the horizontal axis, employee ID on
the vertical axis, and the number of times the employee appears for the
given date as a color. I've kluged something where I make a table
(table(date, id))

32/64bit locking problem with 2.2.2
Hi there,
I have a quite ugly problem with a Samba server. The server is
running Linux 2.4.13 and Samba 2.2.2. The NFS-client is running
Linux 2.4.5. The windows homedirs are on \\server\username, the
UNIX homedirs are NFS mounted by the server.
So, whenever I access \\server\username this actually NFS-mounts
/nfs/client/home/username. I now have one client machine that
causes the following

copying from Win to Linux
Hi, I'm about to migrate a lot of files from a windows server to a new,
shiny samba-server.
I just got a small problem : What is the best way to do this?
I'e tried rsync, but it croaks on some files with names like "somethign
:some.eml" the same does cp.
What I'm wondering about, is has anyone else had these problems, and if
so, how did you solve them? Do you have a

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,

Leaky bucket in TC
Hi,
I am trying to control bandwidths of the connections by using TC with
HTB. But I want to implement Leaky Bucket on this structure so as to
have a straight flow.
Due to being new in this area, could anyone help me how I could do this?
Does TC support leaky bucket?
Best regards,

leaky bucket on bursty multicast
Hi all,
I have an average 2mbit multicast stream that once in a while bursts
high (up to 20mbit/s) in short periods (about 200ms). Could anyone
please help me with directions using tc for configuing leaky bucket
shaping to this stream? I have a 5mbit/s ceiling.
My system is running gentoo linux 2.6.14, and I have compiled in all
QoS modules.
Thanks.

gnome boot problem
Not understanding. At what point in the boot process should I be doing that
and why would I need to do that at all? Seems like it's something wrong
with the Plymouth and plymouth-scirpt packages....I uninstalled them and
rebooted I didn't get stuck in a loop but I didn't have a gui. I
reinstalled and I'm back at the Plymouth wait error.
