samba 2.4 and win2k clients doesn't work
Hello,
i'm new to the the list so excuse me if I ask for an old problem, but i found no solution in the archive.
I try to set up a rh 7.3 server with samba 2.4 as PDC for win2000 sp2 clients.
I configured the samba to create the machine accounts on the fly. When I try to join the domain the entries in smbpass and passwd are created fine. After a minute I get the message that I joined the

"incorrect password length" when trying to domain-logon from XP to 2.2.3a
I'm trying to set up Samba 2.2.3a as a logon server for my Win2k/XP network.
But when I try to join the domain with a XP Professional client (the
SignOrSeal-Patch is installed, the other option in the management console is
also set up) I get the error message "Login failed: unkown user name or
wrong password" (translated from German) ... in the server's log there are

Extremely slow Samba3 performance with ArcView/WinXP
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi!
I have a user who is running a Samba server to store data
files for his ArcView 3.3 application. Client operating
system is Windows XP professional.
With Samba2 (2.2.8a) this was working quite fine, it usually
took less than a few seconds to load and render one of the
GIS presentations with ArcView.
We then did an upgrade to Samba3 (3.0.20b)

offline folders problem with W2k SP2
Hi,
had samba 2.1.?? version and Win2k running for some time and
offline folders worked just fine. But recently I installed
SP2 on Win2k and did a samba upgrade to 2.2.3 and now the
offline folders do not work any more. Everything is fine
until I go offline, */CSC/ contains my offline files and
everything seems fine, but when being offline I always get
access denied messages when accessing

Samba as standalone server & problems with saving documents
Hi...
I wanna use samba 3.0.28 (on FreeBSD 7.0) machine just to serve some
shares with different content.
We have several users, and access to a share should be managed by the
unix group a user is in. so if the user is a member of the group
'business' he has access to a share called business. Every users has his
primary group set to 'users'. I implemented that for several groups:

Problems with Samba 2.2.x under FreeBSD with Win2k Clients
Hi,
Has anyone had the following problem.
Under Win2000 I copy a file from Windows Explorer
to a share running samba 2.2.x. The file does not
yet exist on the share however windows pops up a
warning that the file already exists and it asks me
to replace it. The thing is, the file has a size of
0 bytes. If I click "no" to not replace I end up with
an empty file, otherwise it copies

"conversion error" and NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE - more info
Hi again,
as I am finally back working on the problem, I add the smb.conf in
the hope somebody can see what I am doing wrong.
Samba Version is 3.0.14a from Debian Sarge.
Attached is my smb.conf - there may be some unnecessary things in
it meanwhile due to too much trying, but anyways.
Meanwhile there are some more clients that have problems with
password authentication. One thing I noticed is

Win2K Workstation Disconnecting Shares from Samba Server
Team:
I have a Linux Server running Debian Testing (2.4.18
kernel) and Samba 2.2.3a-12.1
It's been running GREAT. This is a marvelous product.
I have a minor issue, though.
2 of the 14 Win2K (all at SP3 and fully "Windows
Updated") will "disconnect" the shares on the Samba
server after only a few seconds of inactivity. This
isn't typically a problem, except that

Weighted Average application on Summary Dataset
Hi,
I have 2 huge datasets - May and Jun - a miniscule sample of one is given
below. I am trying to do 2 things with these datasets. I need to verify if
the weighted average of variable A for a Reason in Jun is same/different
from the same for May. To do this I am first computing the weighted average
for each SubReason using a function I wrote.
Where I need help is applying the function on both

FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Jim,
Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is
something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like -->
hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause...

win2k client slow with samba 2.2.3.a - maybe a bug?
This sure looks like a bug but maybe a configuration error on my
part.
I am trying to migrate out current OS/2 Warp 4 based file server to
Samba. We have OS/2, Win98, WinNT4, and Win2k clients. I set Samba
2.2.3a up to use security = SHARE as this appears to be the closest
to what the OS/2 Warp4 based system supports. All clients are able to
access the files on the Samba service but loading

Need local profiles in win2k/sp2
Greetz all,
I am setting up a comain controller for a windows 2000 network and I
think I have everything squared away. The problem that I am having right
now is that all of the documentation/howtos that I have thusfar seen
assume that a user wishes to implement roaming profiles in Samba. We
want to preserve local profiles (local on the client.)
I had seen a posting suggesting to set the

Samba Swat and win2K domain
Hello,
So I just setup samba and swat on one machine here in my office. I can
see the work group that this machine has created from all my windows
based machines and I can see my windows domain from the linux box. This
made me happy since I am a nubie to this Linux stuff. But that's where
the joy stopped. When I double click on the linux box from my windows
box network places I get an

smbfs win2k 2.2.3a error
Fellow SAMBA lovers:
I've been using 'mount -t smbfs blah blah' for over a year to do
backup/restore. I recently upgraded SAMBA from 2.2.2 to 2.2.3a and the NT
Server I was attaching to from v4 to Win2k. Now 'mount -t smbfs' returns an
error. However, smbmount with the same parameters works, so I just changed
the scripts to use smbmount. I suspect it's the Windoze server

SGI XFS 1.0.2a, ACLs and samba 2.2.3a with win2k perms
Hi,
I haven't been able to find any doco that explicity states whether it is
supported, so I am hoping someone out there can answer the following
questions:
Is it possible for a folder/file in a samba share to have win2k security
permissions assigned to it? For example, I want my samba server to
participate in an existing Win2k domain. I want users to be able to set
their own

Print driver download, Win2K client, Samba 2.2.3a
Greetings. I'm new to the list, so before I ask a question which might be long and already have been answered, let me ask two short ones:
1) Is there an FAQ for this list? What is the URL?
2) Is there a concise and clear set of instructions for getting Samba 2.2.3a to automatically download drivers to a Windows 2000 Professional client? I'm running Samba on Red Hat 7.3. I have found
