smbstatus connection.tdb not initialised
HI, I recently upgraded from SAMBA 2.0.7 to SAMBA 2.2.2. I downloaded the binaries (from samba.org binary packages) for HP UX 10.20. I am able to map drives and print however when I execute smbstatus (even at the root level) I get connections.tdb not initialised. This file does not exist in the /var/opt/samba/locks directory. I changed my log level to 3 to try to see what is going on but

smbstatus & connections.tdb
Greetings, After recently upgrading Samba from 2.0.7 to 2.2.2 on my Solaris Unix servers, I have problems running command 'smbstatus'. When I run smbstatus as root, it correctly displays connection information for users who've mapped network drives to server shares. However, when I run smbstatus as non-root, instead of displaying connection information, it issues the message

Subject: samba 3.6.6: unstable network behaviour on win7 clients + segfault in smbstatus
Dear list, I'm experiencing some severe problems on three independent standalone samba file servers: 1. Strange behaviour on Windows 7 Clients - sometimes users can't delete files or folders - Samba would delete the files (they're gone off the filesystem) but still show them in the explorer with a zero filesize, throwing a 'permission denied' message if one would try to

smbstatus error
Gurus, I have downloaded and compiled 3.0.2a. I can map from 2000 to my share fine. If I try a smbstatus I get errors, see below. Can someone please point me in the right direction? smbstatus -s /usr/local/etc/meltwk-tst02.conf -d 10 edited to keep it short but this error about not having this charset repeats about 10 times. Locale charset 'ISO8859-15' unsupported, using ASCII

smbstatus -b shows bogus connections
Hi, I have samba 3 (samba-3.0.10-1.4E) on RHEL4.1. I have updated from RH9 and samba 2.x The 'smbstatus -b' command shows connections that does not exists. For example, a user connects to their windows XP session and then disconnects. But smbstatus -b shows that the user still connected even if that user have used only 10 minutes the cliente PC. I think it should be a problem with .tdb

brlock.tdb and locking.tdb always missing on RH 7.2
Hi! I've been fighting with Samba for over a week now and I can't seem to work it out. It all started when I installed the standard samba (2.2.1a-4) which came with RH7.2. I ran "smbstatus" and got the following error: Failed to open byte range locking database ERROR: Failed to initialise locking database Can't initialise locking module - exiting. I've tried the

Automated user lockout during certain hours
Hi, I've been through a few places including the book Linux Samba Server Administration and cannot find anything on something that allwos me to deny access during certain hours so that backup can be done safely. One method I thought of was to copy in a new smb.conf with different settings. I figure something better should exist. All servers are running 2.4 kernels and latest samba. --

how to check open connections/files without smbstatus / swat
Hi, I have one user who should be able to _view_ all open files and connections on a samba server. He should not be allowed to login to the server by telnet or ssh to use smbstatus, nore should he be able to use swat as long as he could view the configfile. So my question: is there a way to configure swat for one user to only view the opened connections? Or dose someone has an other idea?

samba4 PDC, smbstatus provides no info
Hi! I have successfully managed to migrate my samba 3 NT domain from gentoo to a fully operational samba 4 AD on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with roaming profiles, MMC management and what not. Over 50 users log into that daily. I've got a number of problems, but let's tackle them one by one. When I try to use smbstatus to check who is using the server and what files are being open, I'm getting:

smbstatus - switched off computers are sometimes showed
I have a Samba server configured as PDC for ~100 computers. It's version 3.0.24 running on Debian Etch (distribution package). I want to write a tool for user logon/logoff tracking. Because parsing log files is hard job (windows frequently disconnets or connects during user session or etc.) I decide to use smbstatus output which seem to be reliable. So I run smbstatus binary every 10

Samba 3 smbstatus not as good
I use a lot of "force user" and "force group" directives on various shares. With smbstatus of Samba 2 I could always verify with a glance what uid and gid a particular service is being accessed as, with Samba 3 you can't. I'd REALLY like to see that come back to smbstatus. Here's a real world example of my complaint... Samba 2 smbstatus output... Samba version

I am running Samba version 2.0.6 on Solaris 2.6. When I run smbstatus, it coredumps. Here is some detailed information that may help in killing this bug. This is a run of smbstatus where it coredumps, and afterwards, a gdb session. root@grads:/depot/samba-2.0.6/bin 174# ./smbstatus Samba version 2.0.6 Service uid gid pid machine ----------------------------------------------

smbstatus getting a SIGBUS error
Somemore information regarding the smbstatus error. The sigbus error is occuring where I noted below. I now have data values to go along with the location. The SIGBUS generating bit is "entry_scanner_p->e.pid" which looks to be in an unaccessable area of memory. Looking back through the code, I find a couple of bizarities. For example file_scanner_p->num_share_mode_entries
