Big problem with 2.2.X.
I have been using samba 2.0.X for over a year with solaris 2.6 and windows NT4. I have a windows application installed onto a Unix share which is mapped to the NT clients using samba. Everything has worked perfectly with the windows application untill i reciently tried upgrading to a 2.2.X version of Samba. ( I have tried 2.2.2, 2.2.3, 2.2.3a). Now when i try to start the windows application, it

Issues regarding owner sid
Here's a strange issue: I'm running winnt4 with Samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 2.8. Basically, a windows app. has been installed onto a Samba share. The windows app has difficulties accessing text files on the share. I notice that in log.smbd, I get an error message (that corresponds to the file the app can't open). Here's a snippet from the file: [2001/12/19 12:32:23, 3]

Unable to validate owner sid.
I am trying to run Samba 2.2.4 on solaris 2.8 with W2K clients. I have an NT app installed onto the Solaris 8 server which i would like to run off of the mapped samba network drive. When i try to start the NT app it attempts to read a file on the samba drive called .root.passwords but fails (This file can be accessed with notepad). The following is an extract from the samba error log. I get the

samba 2.2.5 unable to validate sid.

I am running Solaris 8 server, windows 2000 SP2 (and NT4 as well). To recap on the problem - i have a NT application installed onto the Solaris server in an area that is mapped to a network drive on the Windows 2000 workstation.

Permission denied creating Clearcase view on Samba share.
If I try to create a clearcase view on a Windows 2000 Server share then it creates a subdirectory tree. If I try it on a Samba share, it creates the first directory correctly with the right user mapping and permissions and then returns permission denied. I am able to manually create files and directories on the samba share using explorer, so I guess that clearcase must be using some different SMB

Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem. Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date) Samba Logfile for Machine account is below. Any ideas? Thanks Nick Gale [2003/11/20 09:18:04, 3]

Windows 2K Offline files
Is anyone else experiencing problems with offline files and folders on Win 2K (SP4)? They are set up OK but when the Win2K machine goes off line and files are modified it won't sync back when back on the network. Error message from the file sync on windows is 'Access denied' (on the server) But I can easily do the overwrite manually so permissions are OK. Below is the log (level 10)

FW: Unable to validate owner sid.
Hi, I havn't herd anything more about this but i have been doing some reading up on winbindd. It appears that i cant use this anyway as it only works on Linux at the moment and i'm using Solaris (Is this correct?). I have now removed winbindd my configuration. I'm still unsure about how to tell if its the domain SID or the SID of the box. Cheers Tom -----Original Message-----

FW: RE: Big problem with 2.2.X.
Sorry, My mistake it didn't fix the problem. (I was running the application from the c:\ drive rather than the share). I am getting exactly the same errors in the log: unix_clean_name [common/config/.root.passwords] [2002/02/21 11:15:44, 4] smbd/open.c:open_file_shared(779) calling open_file with flags=0x0 flags2=0x0 mode=0644 [2002/02/21 11:15:44, 2] smbd/open.c:open_file(216) INSTALL

samba-tool classicupgrade (from v3 to v4) aborts with "Unable to get id for sid"
I'm trying to upgrade from samba3 -> 4. I ran this command: WORKDIR=/usr/local/mobius /usr/local/samba/bin/samba-tool domain classicupgrade --dbdir=$WORKDIR/var --use-xattrs=yes --realm=infinityhealthcare.com $WORKDIR/smb.conf but it failed with the error given in this email's subject. What does it mean, and how do I fix it? This is just another is a growing line of errors that

Usage of '--domain-guid' parameter of 'samba-tool domain provision'
Hello, I was hoping to reprovision the same domain by specifying the domain GUID in the command line tool 'samba-tool domain provision' but I am not sure if I missed something or if there is a bug but the specified domain GUID is not the one which is created for my domain. Specifying the domain SID seems to work as I would expect. I tested it with Samba shipped by Debian 11 (samba2

SFU Samba Permission Denied
I recently ran into a problem accessing Samba shares from SFU. From SFU's /net directory, I could read from files, move files, create directories and even append to files using >>. But, when I tried to create a file, I received a "Permission Denied" message. After looking at the logs I found something which looked out of place. I am currently using (I tried many different

ClassicUpgrade => EpicFail
ClassicUpgrade of my samba3 data to samba4 fails, with this error: ERROR(<class 'passdb.error'>): uncaught exception - Unable to get id for sid Full log of the classicupgrade is at the end of this email. Project member on this list, Andrew Barlett, wrote that the issue is probably that my Samba 3 passdb was passable in an NT 4 DC mode, but is actually 'invalid' :

" ERROR! Out of file structures" with smbd, and Arcserve IT on sm b share
Hi again, I was previously writing for a problem with Arcserve IT and Samba (with linux). The connection drops after 15 minutes. Continuing to understand what's happening, I discovered the following message in the logs: [1999/06/01 14:42:08, 0] smbd/files.c:file_new(85) ERROR! Out of file structures Immediatly I ran into the samba code to try to understand the cause of the problem.

strange: failing upload of special profile-dirs
Hi to everyone, Something quite strange occured to me this weekend as we wanted to switch our network to w2k ads structure with a sambaserver as main fileserver running winbind. The windowsprofiles are supposed to reside on the sambaserver and the client successfully loads the initial profile. The first time the user logs on to his machine, he gets some default .msi-softwarepackages assigned by
