printer list from cups without restart?
Hi, while using cups as a print system and sharing all the printers with samba to windows clients, is it possible to 'view' a newly created printer in the browse list without restarting smbd ? (samba 2.2.7) Holger

use local users on domain member
Hello list. My samba 3.0.4 server is member of an NT domain. Now I want to use local unix accounts (on this server) as well as the domain accounts to authenticate users. It works, if I use "smbclient -W <netbios name of the server>" but not when using win2k clients. The client's name is mapped to the domain name and as a result the sam backend doesn't even look at the

Printing eats my CPU
Hi all, I still have several problems with the printing system. The most critical is, that some drivers seem to cause an infinite RPC loop. I have a KYOCERA Mita KM 4230 KX driver installed. In this moment I can see SPOOLSS_GET_PRINTER and SPOOLSS_GET_PRINTERDATA requests and RPC responses on the net. Stracing the smbd process looks like this: ... pread(16,

printernames vs. sharenames
Hello, when I assign a printer driver to a printer from a windows client, the printername now changes to the drivername. Yes, I can see the SPOOLSS_SETPRINTER call with the printername property, but that's definitly not what I want (or would expect). E.g. when I change the drivers of 3 printers to HP Laserjet, I get 3 printers with the names "HP Laserjet [(Copy 1|2)]". These

completed printjobs stay in queue after "upgrade" 3.0.20rc2 -> 3.0.20
A few weeks ago, I upgraded Samba 3.0.1x to 3.0.14a . After the upgrade, all completed printjobs on all 40 printers stayed in samba's print queue (they were removed from the unix-printqueue). When I installed 3.0.20rc2, everything back to normal. But since the upgrade this weekend to 3.0.20, the same thing happens again: no jobs were removed from the samba printerqueue's. Removing

Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
Hello! I'm using samba with CUPS printing (with raw passthru) for a long time now and it worked very well. But after upgrading my samba installation from 3.0.2 to 3.0.9, the printjobs (sent from XP Workstations) aren't removed from the joblist anymore. Means: the job is printed correctly, but opening the printqueue on the XP machine still contains the job (not only mine, but jobs from

Re-2: Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ?
That was a good hint! Yes, I've installed SP2, and it realy seems to be the Problem. Now I've checked that on a machine with SP1 - and the jobs from the same printqueue are removed correctly there! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Samba] Samba 3.0.9 doesn't remove printjobs ? NT can't print while Win 95 can?
Hello all, I have a printing problem with NT, Samba 1.9.18p8 and Debian Linux 1.3 (Kernel 2.0.32). I defined a printer share, which works fine with Win95, but it does not print with NT 4.0 SP3 and NT 3.51. After installing the "EnablePlainTextPassword" registry entry NT4.0 is able to browse, connect and use a file system share on the printserver, but it can not print to the same

3.5.1 64 bit windows printing is working a bit
Hi, although I don't expect any answers (like most of the times) , here is my experience so far: I run a samba printserver for +3.000 hosts and 600 printers with a correct setup successfully. So be sure, everything is plugged in, I tried to turn it off and on again, I RTFM'ed and so on. Here is my most successfull attempt to get the printservice going on 3.5.1 and windows 7 46 bit

/etc/printcap
Hi, following situation: 1) You create a raw printer (called "testprinter") under cups and leave the description-field (info-field) empty. cups will create an entry in /etc/printcap of the form testprinter|testprinter:rm=linux100:rp=testprinter: 2) You start samba with a standard [printers] and [print$] share. samba will expose the printqueue to the clients. 3) You upload a windows

Problems installing printer driver
Hello, (please excuse poor translations of german Windows-GUI-items) a customer of ours has a strange problem trying to install a printer driver on the print$ share. The driver in question comes from http://www.kyocera.de/kyocera_n/german/downloads/downloads.html -> choose 'Treiber' -> choose 'Produkt Typ: Drucker', choose 'Produkt: FS-6020', choose 'Sprache:

Where samba store printer/driver information?
Samba in AD mode, of course; printer server on a domain member with cups. For the second time i'me lost, on a server, all the associaton between printers and drivers, so i've to set it all. Old samba 3 was clear: https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/old/Samba3-HOWTO/tdb.html but now i've not found (even doing 'tdbdump') where printer names, driver association and so on are

Cannot get HP1055CM Color Plotter to work with "Point and Click"
G'day All, We are using Samba 3.0.6 as a PDC and print server. The OS is RHEL 3.0. I've gone thru the procedure detailed in "The Official Samba Howto..." book and the other HP and Lexmark LaserJet printers work properly using the postscript drivers. However, HP 1055CM Color Plotter works best with the HPGL/2 drivers if the drivers are installed on the client workstation but, do

Printing to Samba printer causes application to abort
I am using Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.29) and Samba 3.0.21c for my print server. The client workstations are WinNT4. I have two printers on the linux server..an HP DeskJet 600 and an Okidata B4250. I can install and print to the HP from any of the workstations. I can install the Okidata just fine, but when I try to print from Word, Excell, or any application Dr. Watson comes to visit. I get

PLEASE help with printing problem
I can't seem to find an answer or a workaround, and I've received stoney silence on this one. There aren't any answers in the archives (well, I didn't find any in the hours on several days I spent, anyhow). I'm convinced that I can't be the *only* one with this problem, nor am I convinced that there is absolutely no one who can help. Please feel free to jump in with

"Additional Drivers" and Print Window Refresh
I have RTFM'd, so excuse me if I missed something in the manual. :) 1) When I attempt to add additional drivers (the inital driver worked just fine, when using the instructions in John's HOWTO), I get the following error: "The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a compatible driver from the

Vista can't use samba hosted printer drivers
Is anyone else seeing Vista (final) will not "connect" to a samba-hosted printer? I'm getting error 0x00000057. I can connect to the port only and install a local driver, though. It's just that the drivers will not load correctly. The drivers do load partly, because I can see driver-specific attributes if I go to "Properties" rather than "Connect". But a test

Win2K Printer "Access Denied" Error
Hello, I have a new RH 7.2 installation (kernel 2.4.7-10) with Samba 2.2.1a and I can't print from my Win2K box. I get an "Access denied: unable to connect" error from the printer entry in Windows.
