winbind and authentication with local accounts
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my samba and winbind configuration:
before I switched the config (from local user authentication to AD authentication using winbind) my users were able to authenticate for example as ?peter?. Now, after switching, they are forced to use SAMBASERVERNAME\peter. If they use only ?peter? winbind tries to authenticate them against the AD which fails. Is there a way

samba windows domain controller
Hi
I want windows machines to automatically be added into samba when they
try to attach to the domain. Had various problems with root account not
being accepted.
Can anyone spot anything glaringly obviously wrong in my config that
follows.
Cheers

Samba performance on FreeBSD
Dear Samba team & other readers,
I'm a satisfied user using Samba as a file server for Windows based
networks and I'm primarily using FreeBSD for this purpose.
When I started to use Samba about half a year ago, I was upset about
the lousy performance but tried my best to search for that problem
at myself. The machine at this time as a Pentium/200 PC with some
SCSI harddisks and 64

Samba PDC & Win2000
I found out, that the reason Win2000 clients could not connect to Samba,
was because Win2000 uses an unknown uid to log the machine on the samba
domain.
Which uid do Win2000 use? Right now, I have set "Restrict Anonymous =
False" to permit Win2000 clients to connect.
Previously I have used some scripts to add network drives etc. in netlogon.
Win2000 do not seem to call these scripts.

Samba 3.05 pdc
I'm trying to connect a Windows 2000 workstation to my samba pdc domain. I
have followed all the steps in the documentation to setup samba as a pdc,
but I have not been able to connect any workstations to the domain. Does
anyone have a example smb.conf file I can compare with mine.
I checked the "log.smbd" and I'm getting the following messages when I tried

Windows access problems
Hello,
I had the pleasure of installing a new Linux(RH8.0)/Samba(2.2.7a) server
(as a PDC) at one of our locations this week. They previously were
accessing a shared drive from a Win2k Pro. machine. The migration did
not go very smooth. Most things have been resolved, but we have some
strange issues that are still causing problems, which I was hoping
someone out there would have some insight

XP Joining domain
I'm attempting to join a Samba 3.0.4 domain on a Debian linux box, with
a Windows XP client.
Problems
1) Can only get the join to work if I use the root account. On Win2k I
can use any account in the Domain Admins group.
2) The join succeeds, the unix account and the smb account are created
but the smb account is disabled, and the password contains all XXXXs.
Joining the domain works

Slow vipw and fast pwd_mkdb
Hello,
could somebody to comment PR bin/51148? It is suggestion how to pass
a value of cache size to pwd_mkdb when we are doing vipw or such.
It can give a greate speed-up when master.passwd is really big (and
sometimes it is). Appropriate cache size can make process 10 to 100
or more times faster. I gave the results of measurements in that
problem report.
Thanks in advance!

Install new version of Samba on Redhat Linux
Hello,
I want to setup a Samba PDC on a RedHat Linux6.0 for NTWS, but I got
some problems, could anybody has ideas?
RedHat 6.0 include samba version 2.0.3. And 2.0.3 seems cannot be a PDC
for NTWS. So I tired to download and install a newer version of Samba
(2.0.6 and CVS).
After I install the newer version, I found that it still cannot be a PDC
for NTWS (cannot found the PDC), also I found

lmb can't sync browse list with dmb, find_domain_master_name_query_fail
Hello.
Browsing accross subnets fails because "route2-3" can't sync its
local browse list with the domain master browser "classix", which
is also the WINS server. Everything else is fine. There is 1 and
only 1 WINS server (classix) and no NT server.
The error message in nmb log of route2-3 is:

change uid/god below 100
Hi.
Only indirectly related to zfs. I need to test diskusage/performance
on zfs shared via nfs. I have installed nevada b64a. Historically
uid/gid for user www has been 16/16 but when I try to add uid/gid www
via smc with the value 16 I''m not allowed to do so.
I''m coming from a FreeBSD backgroup. Here I alter uid using vipw and
edit /etc/group afterwards.

clarification needed: $ in machine name?
Hello,
Sorry to be a pest, but I need to try to get some clarification of how the
machine name works when setting up a machine account on the Samba
server. The Samba How-To page
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html#id2536400
talks about the "common error" of including the $ in the machine name on
the server machine. However, all of the

I am a complete newbie to this list (just subscribed) and a newcomer to

package and I have used rgl.postscript to export it so I can generate a
publication quality image. My problem is that the plotted surface is no

owner of a smbd thread
Hi,
I've set up a Samba server accessed by NTWS 4.
When I do a "ps aux" on the server, i can see a line
for each user connected with a "smbd -D" command.
The owners of these commands are mostly root but
sometimes the users themselves.
How to force the owner of the command in order to be
available to get a list of connected users with an "ps

Modifying username
I modified a users name on my system. From ABCLast, to ALast (used as an example).
I modified the username, then the group name of the user (to align with the new name), and then I
moved the users home directory from /home/ABCLast, to /home/ALast. Then using vipw, edited the
home directory to use /home/ALast.
When I got finished editing the passwd file, I got the following message:
