User list problem on Win9x.
I'm a bit confused about user enumeration on Win9x boxes.
I've got a couple of machines running SaMBa. One (M2Dual) is
running 2.0.7 with security = domain and domain server = M2Hub.
The other (M2Hub) is running 2.2.3a with security = user.
I also have three Win9x machines. All have user level security
turned on. Roving profiles work on all machines and all users.

Access lists
I searched tha archives on this and found only an ancient (1998)
message... The books I've read say it can't be done (yet).
I'd like to set up some shares on Win95 and Win98 boxes with
domain level security. To do that normally, an 'Access list' is
needed, and that doesn't work (yet).
Q1) Has this changed, and if not, how soon is this likely to
change?
Q2) What do I

Problem with yppasswd ans openssh on Irix
Hi,
I compiled openssh 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2 with MIPS 7.2.1.2m compiler. All
works fine except the yppasswd command from Irix (it's no NIS-problem,
same with rlogin works):
Logged in with 'ssh machine -l user1'

# ypcat passwd |grep user1

Slow Copy WinXX - Linux/Samba :-(
I never thought it would happen to me, but it did...
I have read threads about slow copies from WinXX to Linux/Samba on the
list in the past, but I don't recall a concise answer regarding what the
cause was.
THE PROBLEM:
Trying to copy an 8 meg file from Win95 to my Linux/Samba box (named
"Nemesis" - for good reason), the transfer speed slows to a crawl. The

How do I change samba password from windows in sarge
Hi folks,
we have a lan with win and linux clients (pcs work alternating between
win and linux-ubuntu, server is sarge). Authentication in linux works
with nis. Therefore I substituted passwd by yppasswd. How can y realize
password changes in win to get the linux (yp) and the samba password
changed in one step?
By the way: do I have to substitute passwd by yppasswd on the server too?
Thanks

Cannot change password
Server: Slakware Linux 2.0.30, GNU C 2.7.2.1 Samba 18p7
Server is not using PAM and is a ypclient.
Client PC's are DOS 6.20 with MS Client 3.0 and Windows 95.
I am having trouble changing passwords using the "net password \\<server>"
command from either DOS or Win95 command prompt. Changing passwords worked fine
using Samba 17p3.
The compile switch -DALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD

Timeserver Timezone Mismatch BUG?
I am having a terrible time getting the hardware clock, system clock and
the time served to my winXX boxes to jive on my Mandrake 7.2/Samba 2.07
machine. I have my clock file, timezone and localtime links set to
America/Chicago. No matter what I do, if I use UTC for my hwclock, my
system clock on the Linux box is fine, but samba passes system time +6
hours to the windows clients. (Yes I know CST =

PDC, NIS and password sync.
Hi.
I have for a while been trying to get my samba 2.2.1a PDC to be a NIS master
and still maintain the password sync feature, without any luck.
Now I made something that seems to work - but I would like to get your input
to see if what I do is ok or it is something I should'nt do.
1: Samba uses passwd to sync the password (not yppasswd)
2: cron runs make in /var/yp every 15 minutes to

Can a Unix box act as Samba server as well as a NIS server?
Hello,
I need help -
1. What should be the configuration of nsswitch.conf
file when I want to make a Unix box both PDC (by
configuring Samba as PDC) as well a NIS server.
2. what should be the value of following parameters in
nsswitch.conf file?
a) passwd = nis files
group = nis files
or
b) passwd = nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
group = nis [NOTFOUND=return]

[PATCH] Log ~/.ssh/authorized_keys comments when using LogLevel=VERBOSE
Hi,
Attached is a patch to log key comments upon successful login. It just
adds them to the already existing verbose() call. I find it useful e.g.
on shared accounts where it's sometimes not enough to have the key
fingerprint in the log file.
Can this be applied?

No subject
method to do this and I'd have to implement this myself if
I want it. Would the following work?
Add a parameter to smb.conf listing the domains to be trusted
and have smbd read them in, then with security = user, after
failing to authenticate a request locally, check for 'allow
trusted domains = yes' (fail if no) and pass the request to
each domain in the list until it is accepted.

RFC: More explicit ssh agent forwarding on SSH_ASKPASS confirmation
This is an old idea I had, resurrected by the mention of changing the
agent protocol in "ssh-agent allowing access to other users?" thread.
Currently, when you forward the ssh-agent, the forwarded host has the
same rights as the local user. And when the key requires confirmation,
the is quite terse: "Allow use of key foobar?
Key fingerprint abcdf."
It would be desirable to

Help with nis password changes
I normally try not to ask questions until I have done as much research as
possible, and again, this is the case...
Just after I thought I had my RH5 samba/nis server working fine, I come across
the inability to update nis passwords.
>From the server as root:
passwd guest1
