pam_mount: /etc/fstab or suid root smbmount?
I recently got to set up a Linux workstation in a mostly-Windows environment. I'm trying to use pam_mount from: http://bazar.conectiva.com.br/~epx/pam_mount/ to automatically mount smb shares from a Windows 2000 server at login. (pam_mount is a pam module that grabs the passwd you use for login, xdm, ssh, or any other pam module and uses it with smbmount to automatically mount shares when

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi, I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very clear about smbmnt though! I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300 to 400Kb each. I understand that Samba is capable of doing

SuSE9.2 Client to AD 2003
I have been pulling my hairs out about this for a while now. Running the latest version of SuSE with all patches applied, I have my machine joined to the domain no problem. But when I go to use mount -t smbfs I get this error. Mounting share failed, smbmnt must be installed suid root for direct user mounts (1000,1000) smbmnt failed:1 Of course I hit Google and the list archives first before

smbmnt and disabling mtab update
Hi, I'm trying to run smbmount on a machine with the root filesystem mounted as read only (it is a little embedded Linux PC which I want to pick up some files from its controlling NT box). The problem is that smbmnt doesn't appear to support the -n flag that normal mount supports which avoids accessing /etc/mtab. Can any one suggest any solutions to this ? Dave

How to automate SMBMNT
Hi there, How do I automate smbmnt so that when logging on, it mounts the required shared directories on an NT4.0 file system using the user name and password I used t gain access to the GUI ? I s this possible. I am currently running Network Neighborhood and have been using this application for access but this requires that I scan mount and log-on again before gaining access to that share.

smbmnt and friends
Dear all 1) Could you happen to know why smbmnt, smbmount and smbumount are not compiled whem I rum "make" from the source directory? I found (for example) bin/testparms in the PROGS1 Makefile variable but no reference to those little fellows. 2) How do I change the config directory to be /etc instead of /usr/local/samba/lib? I tryed "./configure --sysconfdir=/etc" and it

smbmnt as user
Hello all, I read in the smbmnt man page that: "A setuid smbmnt will only allow mounts on directories owned by the user, and that the user has write permission on." I am trying to set up a mount on /mnt/laptop. I have given my users 777 permissions on the directory, but it is owned by root. Is there any way that I can work around this. It appears from the man page that smbmnt

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

Patch: --drop-suid Remove suid/sgid from target files
The attached patch adds an option --drop-suid which caused rsync to drop setuid/setgid permissions from the destination files. ie, even if the source file is setuid, the target file will not be. Added as we want to rsync the same files to machines both inside and outside our firewalls. For machines inside the firewall some files should be suid, for machines outside the firewalls they should
