Fedora 25 Samba and XP-SP3
Yes, I know, XP-SP3 is very old. It works for what I need it for. I have some programs that will never be updated for Win 7. Note that XP-SP3 and Fedora 14 work together just fine, so I'm guessing that a newer version of Samba is what is keeping me from logging in from XP. But, I do not know what to put in the smb.conf file to allow XP to mount a share. Here is the output from testparm:

Not all files copied
First time posting to this mail list. Be gentle :-) Project: Building new Linux Fedora server to replace the existing Solaris 10 x86 server. Rsync is being used to transfer files from the current server to the new server. The rsync daemon didn't want to start on the older server via inetd. Not a big deal, I just manually started it. The first directory being copied is /home.

Changing the IP Address of a Samba AD DC doesn't work - samba_dnsupdate crashes

With Fedora Samba versions 3.5 and 4.5, it does not exist. The 'testparm' most certainly does and I agree with using it. I just recently set up my new Fedora 25 box and used it after

Getting printer into w2k
I'm ready to take w2k and Bill Grates and hang them up by their balls. Under Win98SE, it is easy to add a network printer attached to Samba. But under w2k, it refuses to do it. I've tried two ways to get the damn thing installed to the net and it fails. First I did the route of adding a network printer. It browsed and found my \\MRVIDEO\lp printer. It also found \\MRVIDEO\scroll,

Getting --delete to work, simply
rsync version 3.1.2 protocol version 31 I've run into an issue using rsync on my QNAP NAS. I've installed Entware-ng on the NAS so that I can install better versions of programs, rsync being one of them. But, I've run into an issue wqith using the --delete option, as it has problems using wildcards. Initially a backup script looked like: #!/bin/sh for d in

mount.cifs fails with protocol SMBv2.x on a DFS share
Hello list, a few days ago we migrated our shares to a DFS cluster, also we disabled SMBv1 protocol. Now we are no longer able to connect to the shares with our linux workstations. The setup looks like this: linux workstation -----> AD server (Windows Server 2008 R2) -----> file server (Windows Server 2016, running in 2008 R2 compat mode) I have searched the web for a solution on the

Solaris 8 and Solaris 10
All, Is there a mount.cifs utility or mount_smbfs for Solaris 8 and Solaris 10. I would like to map drives to my Windows servers from Solaris. smbclient works great for accessing files but I want to map the drives. sharing NFS mounts
OK, I've been searching the archives and google with little luck... I have a directory which needs to be shared with a number of UNIX clients via NFS and with Windows clients via Samba. What is the best way to do this? Should I configure Samba to share the actual NFS mount? Or should I configure Samba to share the actual filesystem directory? Reason I ask, we were using the former method

Of course, the transfer from Linux to W2 doesn't occur until the particular file has completed the transfer from W1 to Linux. This senerio of dual transfer from the same area on the Linux disc will ultimately case the smbd

gaming on multiple OS of the same machine?
Hi, I am new to Xen and I was wondering if the following construction would be feasible with the current Xen. I would like to put 2/3/4 new computers in my house, mainly for gaming. Instead of buying 2/3/4 different computers, I was thinking of building one computer with a 4/6/8-core CPU, 2/3/4 GPUs, 2/3/4 small SSDs, and attach 2/3/4 monitors to it, 2/3/4 keyboards and 2/3/4 mouses, and run VGA

Do systems have to be IDENTICAL for live migration?
I have several systems running 64bit SLES11SP1. I''m trying to Live Migrate between a couple of them and it''s not working, although the same VM will run on each one starting it manually. The system are not identical. Would one expect migration to work between these two systems? See below. Thanks, James The first system is a ProLiant DL360 G6: Proc 1:2533 MHz Execution

How do I get the @#$$% job name to show instead of smbprn.yada.ya da?
I'm tinkering with this mod to my smb.conf, and can't get the actual filename to be displayed in the printed job history. It's adapted from one Joel put out on the list last year. My impression is that it works for everyone in the world but me.... All that ever shows up is smbprn.yada.yada... in the printer's history of printed jobs. print command = echo %J %p %s >>

DTrace helper interface''s deprecated ioctls
Hi, Is there a specific reason the DTRACEHIOC_REMOVE ioctl is deprecated? I found I needed to use it in my Perl USDT provider code[*], which creates providers dynamically at runtime. I wonder if I''m missing a better way of doing the same thing. The situation I''m handling with the remove operation is killing and recreating a perl interpreter in the same process, which
