They are 1) Solaris 2.6 & Samba 2.0.4b 2) Solaris 7 & Samba 2.0.4n and 3) Mandrake linux 6.2 & Samba 2.0.3 We have experienced this problem on all of the above servers. Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing?
Hello, I have been searching for answers now more then a week, but I cannot find a proper solution. Please help me with this: Scenario: Two differnet subnetted networks (1 and 2) connected by a cipe tunnel between two linux Samba boxes over the internet. On network one (1) is a Windows NT PDC installed which currently is the DMB for it's domain (1). On network two (2) one of the linux

Please Help - WINS server problems
Hello, We are successfully using Samba with a remote WINS server which is located on another site. We have a second site (Worcester) which has successfully been using the same WINS server and communicating with our Samba servers (Shipley5 and Shipley6). Recently the PCs in Worcester have been unable to connect to our Samba server in Shipley. The other site uses a different DHCP server to our

Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone, I think I solved it: - I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on the other). - On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their "secondairy" WINS server. - TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

Browsing - NT/Windows 2000
Hi All, I am currently experiencing an unusual symptom some of you might be able to help me with. Currently I have two Windows based servers. The first is a Windows 2000 server upgrade of the original NT PDC. The second is the original NT BDC. The two servers running Samba 2.0.6 are both HP-UX 10.20. Historically, the BDC was always used for authentication Samba-wise as the password server,

File locking in a cluster
Hi, I have 2 Sun T1000's running Solaris 10 and Sun Cluster 3.2. They are each connected to a fibre attached SATA RAID array which they use as data storage area for PC clients. Both servers are running Samba 3.0.25c. The problem I have is that when a PC client access a file via Samba running on server-a and another client accesses the same file via Samba on server-b no locking is happening.

Trouble browsing on different nets.
I'm not sure if this even SHOULD work. I can't find anything really useful in the documentation. I have a RedHat 7.3 system in the DMZ of our network, its address is 192.168.222.10, broadcast address is 192.168.222.254 I firewall, linux based with 3 ports, the 192.168.222.0 net (DMZ), the "outside world" on one port and the internal network is 192.168.111.0, broadcasting

Browsing automatic update
Hi, I've configured successfuly a Samba-LDAP PDC. When a Windows PC is up, I can see it in network neighbourhood but when it is down, I still see it in network neigbourhood. And the entry in browse.dat file still exists even the computer is down. Any suggestion ? -- Rapha?l Berghmans <rberghmans@arafox.com>

VPN and browsing
Hi All, I've set up a PPTP VPN system to provide remote access to my work LAN, but I can't get (and cannot see how to get) computer browsing to work for clients connecting over VPN (they cannot see any computers in, and do not appear themselves in network neighbourhood). From my understanding, every subnet needs to elect a local browse master - in this situation, the only

Samba / NT / Win98 and Browsing
Hey all, Our scenario is hopefully quite simple. A client has a MS Small Business Server and about 6-8 Win98 clients. There are also two SCO v5 boxes, which are running samba 2.0.3 (the precompiled version). From the NT box, we can see the SCO servers, but from the Win98 boxes, the SCO servers are not visible. Samba is configured to register its name with the NT WINS server, and I'd

Too many smbd processes running, connections dropping.
I'm running Samba 2.0.4b on a E450 running Solaris 7 which acts as a diskspace server for students, normally everything runs quite smoothly with numbers of connections in the region of about 800/900. Then every now and again students will start seeing their connections being lost and others will not get a connection when they log in, looking at the system shows no obvious problems, except

BROWSING SUCKS

NETWORK: We have a windows based network of approx 25 computers (Win 98, Win 2000, in NT, Win XP (both Pro and Home). Printer no longer available
Hi, I have a Samba 2.2.2 server running on a Sun E450 with Solaris 2.6 and another Samba 2.2.2 server running on a Sun Ultra 10 with Solaris 7. These two servers form a Samba domain. A mixture of Windows NT4, 2000 Pro, and 9x clients all login to this Samba domain for files and printing. My site is a bit of an odd ball with regards to the rest of the company since we are the only real Unix site.

Browsing in AD networks
Hello, sorry to bother you with probably another stupid question, but googl'ing didn't help here. Can someone give me an overview of how network browsing from windows workstations is supposed to work in AD networks? I have recently upgraded a samba server running an NT4-style domain with classicupgrade. The workstations are Windows 7 (with the registry fix applied to be able to join an

SuperSlow Browsing
Hi! I've set up a Samba-Server with WINS which should enhance networking around here. The situation is fairly simple: - Around 90 Student-PC's - Everything is in the net 10.1.2.0 / 255.255.255.0 Till now everything worked more or less well without WINS (so the DHCP-Server just assigned IP/Gateway/DNS). Now I installed a samba machine and activated WINS-Server. The IP of the WINS

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi, I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an 'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network Neighbourhood. I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway). On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8) as the browse
