Problems with smbpasswd
I've compiled the latest version of samba (1.9.18p4) and set up password
encryption (per instructions in the ENCRYPTIONS.txt file). Setting root's
smbpasswd worked with no problems. I set another user (me) with an
smbpasswd. Tried "smbclient -L '\\hostname\wwinzer'". The output is the
following:
68 wwinzer@Sun-E3000:~ ==> smbclient '\\champusa.com\wwinzer'

Windows 7 can't see my Samba server
It's really weird how many times thing break in threes. This time is
was my wife's laptop, my router and a phone.
Anyway...
My network has a router and 2 computers; my F11 box with the samba
server on it called steve and my wife's laptop now running Windows 7
called Kellie-PC.
My old router was a Linksys WRT54G that I had flashed with DD-WRT. I

Upgrade & directory permissions
I've just upgraded the version of Samba we're running from 2.2.2 to 3.0.2a and am seeing an issue with permissions on directories. Users can still map the shares that are set up, but cannot access the directories within those shares. This is also not consistent; it's not happening to all users. Our environment:

Still Having Problems With Password Authentication for 1.9.18p7
I'm having problems still with password authentication for 1.9.18p7. Samba
only recognizes the root password only!!!! I thought password authentication
was fixed in version 1.9.18p5. Anyway, here's output of the problems I'm
facing:
After starting smb and nmb using root's ID the following test was successful:

non-root users cannot use smbpasswd...
...we are running a samba-2.0.6 server on a Sun
E3000, to provide file and print service (but not
logon service) to users on PCs. It works fine
except for an enormously annoying problem:
ordinary (nonroot) users are not able to change
their own samba passwd. When a user invokes
smbpasswd he or she gets the following response:
euler$ /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd

Urgent Help pls - NT4.0 Term Server and SAMBA - RDR timeouts
Hello,
I'm new to this list.
The NT folk here, are concerned about some timeout errors and stuff that appear
in their event viewer. They are building a case to convince management that
unless these "samba" errors are fixed, we should move to NT file shares. I think
this is a bad idea. Can anyone help me out here.
We are running samba 2.0.6 (1st msg) and 2.0.5a (2nd err msg)

Oracle on ZFS vs. UFS
Hi,
I''m preparing a personal TPC-H benchmark. The goal is not to measure or
optimize the database performance, but to compare ZFS to UFS in similar
configurations.
At the moment I''m preparing the tests at home. The test setup is as
follows:
. Solaris snv_37
. 2 x AMD Opteron 252
. 4 GB RAM
. 2 x 80 GB ST380817AS
. Oracle 10gR2 (small SGA (320m))
The disks also contain the OS

rsync bugs
I may be nuts, but...
I would appear that rsync is not setting the exit code properly when it fails.
Below are 2 cases where that seems obvious, the line with the '0' after the
output is 'echo $?' from bash -- aka the exit code for the last command.
Let me know if these are bugs, or I need to somehow get around these situations.

cannot delete non-empty directory
Hi,
I have the following problem.
I'm sitting on a WinXP comp and want to delete a non-empty directory out
of my [Home] share.
I am using samba 2.2.7a on a Suse8.0 and I installed the rpms from
http://de.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/SuSE/i386/8.0/
I did useradd -a for the appropriate user and I can access my Home-Dir
and read and write to it.
I put my smb.conf at the end of the

combining two models in one controller/view "set"
I''m going to take another stab at this question (my first one received
no replies):
I have two models:
Author
has_many: books
Book
has_one: author
I have two tables:
authors
id
...
books
id
author_id
...
I let the scaffolding fly and it created the CRUD goodness for each
model, as expected.
However, I want to have only one view/controller "set" for both
models; when I

Compiling Samba 3.0.9 on Solaris 2.6 gives conflicts :-(
Hi,
I have to build Samba 3.0.9 on a customers Sun E3500 with Solaris 2.6.
They recently upgraded to Windows 200x domain with AD.
When i try to compile with Heimdal or MIT Kerberos i get the following
error:
Using FLAGS = -I/usr/heimdal/include
-I/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/include -I/usr/local/ssl/include
-I/usr/heimdal/include -L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib

Tinc + Tomato (firmware)
I've been running Tinc on my routers for several years. I thought I'd do
an integration of tinc with gui in Tomato firmware because I find it useful.
It's been working well for me, but I'm sure there's there's a bug or
two, or something I've overlooked. Let me know of anything and I'll
correct it in a future release.
I created a tutorial for Tomato users here.

Strange samba behavior
I've run into a situation where Samba is having problems coping. I have filesystems on a SunCluster
that my Samba server nfs mounts and then shares to our Windows PC's. I've twice had a situation
where if I have a failover of my cluster during production time, Samba begins to use up all swap space,
the system load goes extremely high (it went to 98 when this happened the other day),

Sporadic One Way Audio
I'm having an unusual problem at one of my branch offices. Every now
and then they will make a call and the person they call is unable to
hear them, but they are able to hear the person. The Asterisk server
has only one ethernet interface and is on the same physical network as
the 2 snom 300 phones and is connected to the PSTN lines with a Rhino
R4FXO-EC card. Usually hanging up and

Wine on Windows 7
For some time now I have been researching the upcoming Windows 7, scheduled for release in 2009 - 2010.
Recently, a number of websites have stated that Microsoft is no longer including backwards compatibility with software from previous versions of Windows. From the number of sites, I'm guessing this is not just a rumor. And considering the almost infinitely massive list of Windows programs

SSH backups - 1hr daytime; 8hrs nighttime
Hi,
I posted the following message to the RedHat linux list to see if anyone had
any thoughts about this problem. I have only received a few replies, all of
which state that they have experinced poor performance problems with ssh on
Solaris. They do not, however, state if it is openssh, which version, what
hardware, or what version of Solaris. (All I can say is that we have had no

[LLVMdev] Getting source line numbers from within a Pass?
Hi, I would like to get at the source line number(s) that a BasicBlock
is generated from, and the only interface I see to this info in the
code is from the debugger.
After sifting through that, I think I might be able to do what I want
by finding dbg_stoppoint intrinsics, but I'm not sure how to get to
them. And, if there's an easy way, that'd be cool to know about.
Also, I cant seem

Samba + Winbind : Kerberos Tickets
Hi Folks,
We're in the process of setting up a Samba cluster (Samba+CTDB+etcd), and
we (presently) using Winbind. We use AD. We're finding that the domain join
(or kerberos ticket renewal) is unreliable. Every day we find Samba/Winbind
is no longer joined to the domain. Now, we're in a bit of a learning curve
here, and automating everything with Terraform + Ansible. We have yet to

I/O leak
I upgraded from rc12 to rc14 last night... sifting through the logs I noticed
the following. I point this out since it appears dovecot is in high gear
bug-fix mode. This issue is not big for me; I rarely stop dovecot. My init.d
script for dovecot is basically

I am guessing there might be a more graceful way to stop dovecot? Or rc14
fixed this? I see in
