Problem with permissions
Hi all,
this may be a very stupid question but I just don't really get it.
We are two consultants from two different companies working for a custom er
and are having a problem that we just can't solve, the other consultant is
blaming samba and I want to prove him wrong.
The thing we are looking at right now is that I have a chmoded 777 directory
but in NT4 it appears with:

Changing 644 back to 600 on smbpasswd automatically?
Hi!
I want to list users from smbpasswd (stored in /etc/samba). I chmoded the
file from 600 to 644, to ba able to read it with PHP. After a while somehow
it changed back to 600, so it was fully unreadable again :(
How can I set that the samba don't need to change it back OR change it
deafaultly to 644?
(someone told me to make a hardlink to the file when it is 644 but that did

capistrano and Dreamhost issue
Hi,
i''m striving to capistranize a foo app on DH.
Everything is hosted on DH to simplify a bit :
- svn repository (http access)
- the application
- the DB
I used the recipe of Jamis Buck modified by Geoffrey Grosenbach which
you can find here : http://nubyonrails.com/pages/shovel_dreamhost
I did the least modifications possible. As recommended.

Problems getting rsync working...
I am having some problems getting rsync working.
No files get copied, although the server HD light DOES come on for about a
second when I run the client rsync command.
The /etc/rsyncd.conf on the server:

gid = root
log = /var/log/rsync.log
read only = no

Cannot leave voicemail, Asterisk/Zaptel/libpi v1.0.9
Hi,
I'm running two boxes side by side, identical specs and setup but with differing
dialplans. Both are on ast/zap/libpri versions 1.0.9. Both boxes share the same
folder for voicemail, exported via NFS from another file server.
Everything was working fine for an extended period of time, until just recently
when someone rebooted Box A. Now when I dial an extension associated with a SIP

cannot execute .exe files from a share
Hello, i've seen this error on the mailing list but no solutions.
Problem: No user can execute an .exe file from a group share under any
windows version (wXP til Windows 7).
Permisions: Every user can read, write, delete, etc in that share.
I've chmoded 777 the file but for nothing. The user can copy the .exe
file to another location like desktop and then can execute it (is a

login reporting (utmp?) problem on Linux
I have recently compiled and installed openssh-2.1.1p1 on a linux box.
The login reporting does not seem to work properly.
When logging into the box via ssh (protocol 1) utmp shows the user logged
in and the tty properly, but the field for the login date/time and the
field for originating host contain all NULLs.
Is anyone else seeing this same behavior, or have I just done something

Printing woes
Hi,
I've been using Samba for a while, and I'm now running all network
printing here from Samba. However, while printing itself works fine, my
users can neither view the print queue, nor delete jobs from it, and
this is beginning to get annoying. I'm using LPRng to do all the
printing. All the clients are NT4 workstations. Here's some selected
bits of /etc/smb.conf and

Passenger Woes
Hello,
I really didn''t expect this to be difficult, but I''ve been struggling
with this all day :(
I''m running CentOS 5.3, with rubygems, rack and fastthread, from EPEL.
I''m running puppet-0.25.0-1 built from the spec file in the latest
stable tarball.
I''m using mod_passenger-2.2.5-2.el5 from Jeroen van Meeuwen (kanarip),
which is effectively EPEL

Re: Security Concern..
[Mod: This message is a reason *why* linux-security is moderated list. This
is also a reason why Rogier, myself, Alan Cox and others really do not want
to have completely open lists that deal with security related aspects of
running a system as way too many people just jump to conclusions and give
suggestions without doing any reasearch on a subject. -- alex (co-moderator

Share names causing big troubles
I work for a school dist, and I am having a bit of trouble with the "Student
Server" We have about 3000 students all with their own accounts. I had the
samba server setup to share their home directories but their home
directories are the same as their login name. So jamie.mcparland would be an
example of a share name. But in Win 9X it gets truncated to jamie.mcparla
then we get the error

I am running dovecot 1.1.10 and 1.1.11 on Solaris 10, mailboxes are in
mbox format and served by Solaris 10 NFSv3, the dovecot cache is on

Some of my users always had above nfs error and their mailbox usually
very big, over 100M, 400M, or even 800M.

[PATCH] btrfs: return EPERM upon rmdir on a subvolume
A subvolume cannot be deleted via rmdir, but the error code ENOTEMPTY
is confusing. Return EPERM instead, as this is not permitted.

fs_flush_file_handle_cache_dir: rmdir(/var/mail) AGAIN

We see frequent
