winbindd and ftp
Hello,
I setup samba2.2.2 with winbind. samba is a member of domain with
security=domain. Now both work well.
Since there is no user in /etc/passwd, and user information gets from PDC(a
win2000 server).
The question is: there is no /home/xxx directory too.(I don't want to make
it manually).
I can configure /etc/pam.d/login with :
session required /lib/security/pam_mkhomedir.
so when

samba as PDC with ldap.
Hello,
I'm using samba2.2.2 with ldap supporting as PDC,win2000 as clients.
I setup ldap server and import the corresponding file to it, and it seems
that
samba works well without as a PDC since I can access samba file.
But now I want it to be a PDC. I can join the domain from win2000, but can't
login . There is a meesage like "no trusted relation between this machine
and
PDC"

Password Length Conundrum
I've jsut installed Samba-2.2.4, from source on a Solaris 2.6 box.
I'm looking to upgrade from some 2.0.x versions I'm running.
I've createed a password entry using smbpasswd -a and added my password.
My password has 9 characters in it. Using smbclient on the Solaris box, I
can access the share, but I can't from Win95 or Win2000 clients
(encryption is on).
If I try to access

2000) into dos, and with your boot disk, read the share listing of machine A
from a linux box and mount it, and the rsync the whole drive if shared (say
c:\ with c:\winnt and all the good stuff).
Though, i still could NOT actually restore this 'mirror' image like i could a
'mirror' image of a linux root??
So, ultimately, there is no reason to even waste the hard-drive space

Hi I have installed samba 2.2.8 on a box running Fresco as a router and Web server. On my Win2000 box I can see the router but when I try to get in and access the shared files it asks for a password I don't know what it is I never set that up. What password does it come with by default?
I ran the command smbpasswd and get the following msg
Failed to find entry for user Root

Would you please tell me where to get help. I'm not the ordinary
person who will ask for it and bother you just because it isn't
convenient to learn from your docs.
I CANNOT use Samba because it fails to let me into my Linux
server which is running it from my Windows98 network neighborhood
icon. It keeps requiring a password.
I keep doing what all the docs say to change the password.

Active X versus Java, Linux versus NT
Having recently read about the lack of security
of Active X controls, I was wondering if I could
get some specifics about its lack of security
versus the security of JAVA. Also about the
security of JAVA under Linux. I understand that
MS''s concept of security is a) investigate the
vendor, b) issue a certificate of authority, 3)
vendor is now trused to do anything (fox guarding

Use the "smbpasswd -a username" to setup a new user password. But without your setup and how you did it and what is going on in the logs it is hard to answer this question, it is very broad. There are great and wonderful documents to learn all about SAMBA and how to set it up.
(Thank you to everyone that created those works of art. 'sniff, sniff' Beautiful they are. Got me
