owner of a smbd thread
Hi,
I've set up a Samba server accessed by NTWS 4.
When I do a "ps aux" on the server, i can see a line
for each user connected with a "smbd -D" command.
The owners of these commands are mostly root but
sometimes the users themselves.
How to force the owner of the command in order to be
available to get a list of connected users with an "ps

Out of memory using wineconsole
Hi,
I tried to launch Windows ME's ftp.exe
with wineconsole.
Command line was :
wineconsole --winver=winme ftp
In result my system hangs,
found in /var/log/messages :
snoop kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 14041
(wineconsole).
Strange, because I have no problem running ftp without
wineconsole.
I have sufficient memory (208 MB swap,256MB physical).

dealing with mke2fs -T option
Hi,
I have a doubt if I use the mke2fs option the right way.
I formatted two different disks, one with
$ mke2fs -b 4096 -E stride=16 -m 1 -T news /dev/sdd
and the other with
$ mke2fs -b 4096 -E stride=16 -m 1 -T largefile4 /dev/sde
sdd is supposed to get files between 8k and 16k.
sde will handle files with a fixed size of 32Mb.
Then I tried this :
$ dd if=/dev/zero of=/mount-sdx/file bs=4k

File manager or browser for IMAP?
Hi all,
I could really use a file manager or browser to browse my Dovecot IMAP.
Ideally it would have hotkeys to move, copy, delete and send. The send
part needn't be coded: Just a call to a shellscript which can handle
the send the way it's locally the most convenient.
Anyone know of such a file manager or browser for IMAP?

Hi!
I have printers, files shared to all windoze platforms in my group. Now I
want to also access the samba box via a VPN. So configuration:
NT----PPTP---NT/RAS-----Linux 7
Any experience with this type of config? Quick test shows the samba host but
when I try to access it the network path is not found.
Thanks!

mounting NFS or SMBFS ?
Hi,
I've users connecting to a samba server via WinNTWS
4.0 (home directories are /home/%u)
While workstations have both Windows and Linux
installed, I want to allow users to connect to their
/home directory when logging into Linux.
Do you think it's better to automount the folders
using an NFS mount or to use an SMBFS mount ?
What are advantages and drawbacks of each methods ?

a good way of life
Thank you all for your answers.
One told me that in order to allow the students to
upload/download from their home directories, FTP or
something like that is a simple and easy choice.
As domain logon and roaming profil is not needed and
FTP can be logged, I'll use this.
Another question for our brillants candidates :
How to batch the creation of a Samba account ?
I mean, everytime you

Strange locking behaviour upsets Apache
We have a server which runs Samba and Apache. Web developers edit their
files (via Windows mapped drives) from Windows XP SP2. These files are
typically CGI files and the developers' routine is:
while (web page not quite right) {
1. Edit file
2. Save
3. Click Reload on web browser
4. Check results
}
They go around that loop many times during a typical development run.

Hello,
This is my first post ever in a mailing-list so I hope I do the things correctly.
First, thank's to the author for these amazing tools.
With Isolinux, I
am making my own DVD multiboot with multiple liveCDs combined. I can get to work everything without even modifying livecds hierarchy. But now I need an important function that
I can't get to work: DISPLAY boot.msg

Yes, of course. And the directory structure was pretty much identical between the two. Which was how I was able to write and run the rsync script.
I think at this point, I'm past

Install new version of Samba on Redhat Linux
Hello,
I want to setup a Samba PDC on a RedHat Linux6.0 for NTWS, but I got
some problems, could anybody has ideas?
RedHat 6.0 include samba version 2.0.3. And 2.0.3 seems cannot be a PDC
for NTWS. So I tired to download and install a newer version of Samba
(2.0.6 and CVS).
After I install the newer version, I found that it still cannot be a PDC
for NTWS (cannot found the PDC), also I found
