BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi, After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary: system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master, wins server, domain master browser, no iptables; system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

Unable to view samba shares
Hi list. I'm new to this list, so please bear with me. I've got samba 2.2.8a on Solaris 9 (SPARC). I've run all the tests. testparm runs fine. Connection Refuse
Dear List, I hope someone could give me some explanation about above error/problem I got. I have 2 machines, one installed RH7.3 (IP ADDR. =10.1.45.12, host name = fk0000-msi-srv) and the other one, Mandrake8.2. (IP ADDR. = 10.1.45.13) Both machines use Samba 2.2.3a. At the RH7.3, I got following error if I connect from Mandrake8.2. $ smbclient -U% -L 10.1.45.12 added interface ip=10.1.45.13

nmblookup can't resolve IPs (but SMB-names)
Hi there, i have Samba 2.2.7a running on FreeBSD-STABLE 4.7. I set up a few things and smbd and nmbd start up at boot, i can browse the net. However, nmblookup can only find IPs by SMB-names, but not SMB-names by IPs. Here is an example output of the failed lookup: %nmblookup -d 3 210.104.1.133 Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file

nmblookup
Newbie question. If I type nmblookup __some other machine__ I get the correct response from Samba. If I type nmblookup __mymachine__ then I get an error yhat it is not found. So if nmbd is not setup right, how do I fix it? --Dan Dan Huston Phone (602) 965-2420 Measurement, Statistics and Methodological Studies Fax (602) 965-0300 Psychology in Education

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks, I am stumped! I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the parameters of our system. Any help is greatly appreciated. smbclient can't start a session with stupid XP
I use samba 2.0.5 on a Solaris 7 Ultra 10 to provide UNIX disk mounts and backups to UNIX tape drives. But I have this new XP and I can't get smbclient to connect to it, although the XP is using all the samba shares R/W. All I get is: /usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient //paulxp/"My Documents" passwd -Tc mydocumentsxp.tar Added interface ip=161.217.10.13 bcast=161.217.10.255

No longer able to browse windows share via Nautilus
I used to be able to browse the windows shares on the network through Nautilus. I can see them as computers, but when I click on them, it fails. (I'm on Ubuntu 6 LTS, AMD64) About 3 months ago, this failed. But, the windows boxes can all still access my shares on my Linux box. I was going through the trouble shooting, and found this out, but I'm not sure what to do next. I am

Newbie, Win2K config, fails on test 8 (long)
Hi. I'm not a sysadmin, but I'm the only person in this building who knows anything about linux boxes. I'm trying to install samba to connect the box (rh7.3) to the windows network. test 8 is where I run into problems. My username and passwd are the same for both. My firewall is down. I have appended my .conf file. I've been searching around through the archives and

Browsing across subnets
I would like to know how to view a samba server on a different subnet than the client workstation resides. For example, I have a Samba 1.9.18p3 server in subnet 'a' and a NT 4.0 client in subnet 'b'. The Samba server does not show up when the NT client double-clicks on the Network Neighborhood. However, if the client does a Find:computer it will find the server, and shares can be

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Folks, I looked through the archives, but didn't see anything like this. I have a network with a mix of Win95, Win98, and WinME clients (and one Linux system w/ Samba server version 2.2.2). All systems belong to a workgroup called "Oteima". All Win95 and Win98 clients see all other systems (including the Linux box) in one list.

interesting WINS resolution problem iwth 2.2.5 PDC
I'm running a Samba PDC at home (v2.2.5, recently upgraded from v2.2.3 in an attempt to solve this problem) on RedHat 7.3. I have domain logon, printing and all that good stuff working just fine to a couple of XP and 2000 clients. But, I want to mount a couple shares from the domain clients to the server, and that works just fine except for one client. fujisawa(6) ~> smbmount

Interdomain trust with different WINS servers
Hi I am trying to stablish a relation between two different Samba domains. Each domain has two PDCs, all they are WINS servers, and the two domains are in different subnets. They are configured to use LDAP as the user/group/machine database. First, I will create the relation, being DOM1.CORP the trusted domain, and DOM2.CORP the trusting domain, so in a server of DOM1.CORP, I create a user this

domain master browser
I'd like my Samba server to be a Domain Master Browser for a workgroup (let's call it 'ENGINEER'). I set it up according to BROWSING.txt, but yet Windows NT/95 PCs on other subnets are unable to browse and see computers on this subnet (even if those PCs are also in the same workgroup). It appears that the Samba is not acting as the Domain Master Browser ... at least as far as

Client login delays - especially after reboot
I have just migrated to a new server and have Samba ver 3.0.12-5-SuSe running on a small network ( 7 win 98pcs) Logins are possible from all clients but morning logins (after client reboot) are delayed. It can take 2 or 3 attempts to successfully login. At each failed attempt the hour glass sits there for 30 seconds or so. logins usually succeed on the second or third attempt. I have searched
