Authenticating AD users and Local users
Thank you for replying!
I can login with my Active Directory credentials, but I can’t login using the local CentOS “svc_dictations” account.
I created the local account usingusing “adduser”, “smbpasswd”, and then updating my smb.conf file (below).
Thank you,
Brian

Comparing skewness
Hello,
I'd appreciate any ideas on how to compare the skewness of two samples. In
my case, one sample is likely to be roughly normal and the other one
skewed. I could run two D'Agostino tests, but then I'll have to correct for
the family-wise error. What if both samples are skewed? If there are no
general tests (or they can't exist), I'd like to know.
Thanks,

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks -
I'm having an issue here.
I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients
sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons).
I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but
the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server.
The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified

Snow sockets
Greetings all. I am trying to run some stuff using the SNOW library on RH
EL3 intel x86_64 and I am running into this error:
Error in unserialize(node$con) : error reading from connection
I am using sockets (not preferred but I can't seem to get rpvm or Rmpi
either one to work on x86_64 for different reasons) and it seems to work
well when the jobs are small, but it seems that they are

portaudit
Any reason why portaudit and its associated infrastructure was not announced to
this list or security-notifications? I recently discovered it, and discovered
the feature was added to bsd.port.mk in the beginning of feburary. Seeing as
the security officer apparently (without announcement) no longer issues
security notices (SNs) for ports, I am assuming that portaudit has replaced
SNs entirely,

goto blas related R segfault
Hi,
i have been running R 2.11 compiles with the goto blas libraries
successfully for about a year. I am running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit.
However, recently I have been periodically getting a segfault when running R
(and numpy -- also compiled against goto blas).
When I check the dmesg error log I get the following message
R[28792]: segfault at 7f4183ed4000 ip 00007f4196f05f03 sp 00007f4192d55d20

FPC / FPE fix
Mr Sidebotham
I wanted to thank you for posting your fix of the camera recognition
problem for FPC. I just updated to Tiger (I usually wait 6 months
after new introductions) and was shocked at the discovery of the
non-recognition and crash. I am currently working your fix. Even if
it dose not work for me, I want to thank you for posting such a
useful message.

subsetting based on joint values of critera
Dear colleagues, I have a dataset that looks as below.
I would like to make a new dataset that excludes the cases which are joint conjunctions of particular state names and years, so Connecticut and 2010, Maryland and 2010 and Vermont and 2010.
I'm trying the following subset code:
newdata<- subset(bpa, (!State=="Connecticut" & year<"2010"))
It appears that

Dendrogram for many cases
Dear All,
I have a cluster object based on a
dissimilarity matrix from about 1,100
cases and wish to know whether anyone
can think of any tips to display some
form of graphical output which would
give some sense of the similarity
between the cases.
A standard form of dendrogram would be
fine, but with so many cases the
dendrogram on the standard devices
(R-2.20 on NT4) is very compact

Samba domain name in short format
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for your advice. I discussed this with my manager and we will plan to upgrade the old system. But this will not be finished with short time.
After reading many old emails in this forum, I made some changes in our Samba settings. First, we turned on winbind and added all necessary packages and setup for winbind. Finally, we can login with the short format, such as YALE\zs24.

Samba domain name in short format
Hi Rowland,
Thanks for your quick response.
Yes, it's Samba+sssd+krb5+AD. So many technologies wrapped together, and I don't know which part can go wrong. We managed to make them work together with the full domain name format such as yu.yale.edu\zs24. But it didn't work with short format as YALE\zs24. When I did this in a Windows computer, it reported "We can't sign you in

Sweave problem, with multicolumn tables from R to LaTeX
Hi there,
I have been using the example provided bellow for a while, and It was
working without any problem. Nevertheless, just since 2-3 days is not
working, probably because I did update.packages(). I have tried to
re-install the older versions of the packages Hmisc() and xtable(), but
still does not work. Can you run this example, and tell me if you got
the same problems?

Can't authenticate to AD using Samba with SSSD
Would someone please tell me where I can find some good troubleshooting documents to resolve AD authentication issues when using Samba? Is this mailing list the best place?
I was able to setup a working WINBIND-Samba setup on CentOS 7.6, but I am required to use SSSD on a different CentOS 7.6 server. Using a test VM, I can get services running, but I can't authenticate from a Mac or

Hi Rowland,
You are right. We are running some old software here, such as NIS. All these started in 20 years ago when I joined the group and we had about 20-30 workstations running Linux. NIS was chosen at that time to manage user accounts. Some users were not familiar with Linux, so we provided Samba to them so that they could map Linux file systems to their computers. I know NIS is old

Samba domain name in short format
Hello everyone,
We have a Samba server that experiences very strange problems. I wonder if anyone can provide some advice.
This is a Redhat 8.4 machine with Samba 4.13.3. We setup Samba according to Redat document https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3802321 .It works well in most cases but has some issues. When user tries to mount a share from his/her PC, he/she must use the long format of
