Hello, A Samba greenie here that needs help. We are running version 1.9 on HP-UX 10.20. Windows 95/98 users are not being prompted to enter their UNIX password when they log into the network...however, NT/2000 users are being prompted every time they log in. What do I need to configure to keep this from happenning? Thanks, Kevin Kevin Mudd System Administrator ADP Inc.

Delays opening Excel/Word files off samba shares.
At my work, I've been pushing linux as a server solution for quite some time. They've decided to give it a go, and the main company file server is now a piii 933 with 512Mb RAM, a promise 6 channel RAID5 controller (IDE), and 6 x 80Gb drives. It's running RedHat 7.1 (with the usual kernel updates to 2.4.10), with samba 2.2.1a and the latest Reiser FS... Now at the moment, we

sftp batch mode and password authentication
Hi all, I used to execute ftp in batch mode to dowload files. In my case, password authentication is the only way to get remote access. Could anyone tell me how can i accomplish the same task using sftp under batchmode as what i have done with ftp ? Meanwhile, how can i specify the password securely ? Is there anyother alternatives ? -- Thanks M.P

Ogg Pages Play Time?
Are all audio pages in a Ogg/Vorbis stream the same size? do they have the same playback duration? I am developing a P2P streaming application where each client has to dowload the Ogg/Vorbis pages from other clients (peers) but I need to know how much time I have to download the next Ogg/Vorbis page before the playback reaches it. Something like numCurrPages = Total of Ogg Pages already

[LLVMdev] Including flex/bison output in cvs
Hi all, At the moment, LLVM includes the .l, .y sources that are compiled by flex and biston via make. This is fine for most unix developers. For windows developers, it's a bit more of a pain to download flex/bison, but is still a one-time thing. However, anyone releasing an llvm frontend will require their users to have flex/bison. Most (but not all) unix boxes have them, but almost no

README.Win32-Viruses and MS Office Administrative Installation Points
The README.Win32-Viruses file distributed with Samba 2.2.2 gives procedures for trying to stop the Nimda virus on Samba shares. It contains mostly good info and it is a good idea to implement this extra level of protection but there is one thing to watch out for. The README says to veto the file "riched20.dll" (along with a few others). This is fine unless you are using your Samba box

Network access speed.
Good afternoon all, I have a few questions, and just joined the list and plan on staying. I had 2 Samba servers at work, both running apache, etc, that we develop on from work and at home over a vpn. My vpn upload speed is 25K, and at one time windows 2000 could save a document in less than 4 seconds from across the vpn using textpad. We recently downgraded our crappy 7.1 redhat versions to 6.2

dowload.file(method="libcurl") and GET vs. HEAD requests
Thanks for looking into it. Is there a way to avoid the HEAD request in R 3.3.0? I'm asking because if there isn't, then I'll add a workaround in a package I'm working on. -Winston On Tue, Jun 21, 2016 at 9:45 PM, Martin Morgan <martin.morgan at roswellpark.org> wrote: > On 06/21/2016 09:35 PM, Winston Chang wrote: >> >> In R 3.2.4, if you ran

Memdisk image size limitation?
All, Quick question. What would be a good rule of thumb for the size limitations of a bootable image for MEMDISK. Not involving network dowload of the image, but relation of the image size to total RAM size. Let's say I had 1GB of RAM, is there a size my image should be limited to? Does MEMDISK have a maximum image size? Thanks. Clay Cooper PG Custom Solutions Engineering Clay_Cooper at

Using S-Plus Documentation with R
Insightful has some nice docs available for download that are s-plus command line guides to statistics. There are two versions, one for S-plus 2000 and one for S-plus 6.0. With regard to syntax, is one a closer match to R than the other? Are they based on the same S engines? Does that matter? I know there will be differences in any case, I am just trying to decide wich version I want to
