A query on graphic console
I'm only getting a text console with CentOS-7.2 on my (oldish) HP MicroServer. The only explicit error I see in Xorg.0.log is that no driver is found for my Pixart USB optical mouse. My query is: would that be sufficient to prevent a graphic console? Incidentally, I can use X apps, eg xpdf, if I ssh in from my laptop. As always, any advice gratefully received. -- Timothy Murphy

[LLVMdev] Issue with std::call_once in PPC64 platform
Hi all, I observe that r220932 (Removing the static initializer in ManagedStatic.cpp by using llvm_call_once to initialize the ManagedStatic mutex.) is causing tablegen to segfault in PPC platforms during static initialization. The crash happens while calling std::call_once introduced by this patch in the wrapper used in getManagedStaticMutex. I understand this call is buggy for some platforms

build system for cutting edge software
Hi, I use centos as it is stable and provides all the software that is needed for everyday use. However, sometimes I would like to use fresh software that is not available as a package. Compiling from source is indeed an option but because centos uses oldish sources not only the sought package should be built but a lot of other packages. An idea is to build it in a directory, as much

centos kernel changelog?
I'm probably overlooking something simple, but I can't seem to find a concise changelog for the rhel/centos kernel. I'm on an oldish 6.5 kernel (2.6.32-431), and I want to look at the changes and fixes for every kernel that has been released since, all the way up to the current 6.6 kernel. Anyone have a link to this? Thanks! Matt

IAX voice distortion with full upload channel / SIP ok
Hi, this is the scenario: One * is placed in a central location with more than enough up/down bandwidth. One * is placed behind a DSL 3000/384. Both * are linked via IAX trunking. Everything is fine until the upload channel of the remote site is filled with a download, then heavy voice distortion starts. Well of course this is expected. So I fooled around with HFSC QoS scheduling on the remote

Cisco ATA 186 with *70
Has anyone come across the Cisco ata 186 not passing *70? When I press *70, the ata just goes back to a dial tone. The strange thing is, its only *70 and not the reset of the 70's. *71, *72, etc all go through fine. I've tried removing the the dialplan all together from the ata to try and let it pass, but no go??? If I setup an IP phone to its extension, *70 goes through fine, so i know

Xen HVM cpuid problem
Hi Keir, For HVM guests, all cpuid Fn''s going through domain_cpuid() iterate over the loop and then return 0 for all four registers. Guests OS''s and cpuid tools in HVM which query for cpuid Fn 0000.0000 %eax and 8000.0000 %eax, see the value 0 and think, Xen emulates oldish 386/486 CPUs. This leads to strange boot failures, "your CPU does not support long mode" or

[LLVMdev] Issue with std::call_once in PPC64 platform
Hi Bill, You can find the same issue in the buildbot: http://lab.llvm.org:8011/builders/clang-ppc64-elf-linux2/builds/16444/steps/compile.llvm.stage2/logs/stdio It is failing for me both in BE (gcc 4.8.2) and LE(4.9.1). I am compiling with clang 3.5, but those are the gcc toolchains I am using. What do you think is the best way to fix this? Thanks! Samuel Bill Schmidt <wschmidt at

CentOS 4.3 Server spontaneously rebooting (over and over again)
Hi there, This post has also been posted in the Hardware and General forums but I thought it might be wise to post it here as well! My CentOS 4.3 (upgraded from CentOS 4.2 installed from Linux Magazine's April 2006 issue) server is rebooting spontaneously (over and over again). It started while I was copying from USB-device (iPod) to another USB-device (Freecom Portable-Hard-disk) but it

rlimit sandbox on cygwin
Hi all. I have an old windows VM with an oldish cygwin that I use for the regression tests. Investigating one of the test failures, I see that it's for UsePrivilegeSeparation=sandbox, and it seems to be because setrlimit(RLIMIT_FSIZE, ...) is not supported. IMO, this isn't a big loss, since the most useful thing in the rlimit "sandbox" is the descriptor limits. Can anyone see

[LLVMdev] Issue with std::call_once in PPC64 platform
Ok, I'll put a patch together to fix this later today. I'll probably do what Reid was suggesting and use what is already in there for Windows. An R vs. SAS Discrepancy: How do I determine which is correct?
I was messing around with some data in R and SAS (the reason is unimportant) fitting a multiple linear regression and got a curious discrepancy. The data set is too big to post, but if someone wants it, I can send it. So, here are the (partial) results: From R: Coefficients: Estimate Std. Rsyncing Samba4 Roaming Profiles between servers
Hi folks, I've got a bit of an issue with roaming profiles and I wondered if someone might be able to help please? :-) We've started rolling out Samba 4 across our network. Currently it's on 3 of our 4 sites, one site has two Samba servers and two sites have one Samba server each (well one site has two Samba 4 servers but one of the servers was an oldish test box which I'm

Installing 4.4 - problem on 386
I tried installing with several options (noacpi noapm; noprobe; noprobe skipddc noacpi noapm nodma). Always I get the same error. BUT this is not in fac a CentOS problem at all, because I get the same error always when I boot from hd (Fedora Core), IF there is a CD in the CD-ROM drive. (I tried with CentOS 1/4, CentOS 2/4 and a HP printer software CD.) It must be something with the CD drive!

[LLVMdev] Issue with std::call_once in PPC64 platform
Adding Jiangning Liu to the thread. Jiangning reported a similar issue on the llvm-commits list on Debian aarch64. In general it sounds like std::call_once may not really be bug free. Jiangning, can you please provide your gcc/libstdc++ version? Thanks, -Chris > On Nov 4, 2014, at 9:38 AM, Bill Schmidt <wschmidt at linux.vnet.ibm.com> wrote: > > On Tue, 2014-11-04 at 12:17
