smbclient can't start a session with stupid XP
I use samba 2.0.5 on a Solaris 7 Ultra 10 to provide UNIX disk mounts
and backups to UNIX tape drives. But I have this new XP and I can't get
smbclient to connect to it, although the XP is using all the samba
shares R/W. All I get is:
/usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient //paulxp/"My Documents" passwd -Tc
mydocumentsxp.tar

Troubles with Network Neighbourhood
Hi ,
I've some torubles with smb server provided with Debian 3.0 Woody - I
can't see any machine in network neighbourhood, altought all machines
are loging and mapping resources shared by server correctly. What
exactly is needed to be installed with smb - any DNS or something like
this? Maybe the question is not too clever, but when I've had my server
on RH7.2 there was no such

Failing tests 5 and 6 in DIAGNOSIS.txt?
Hi,
While going through DIAGNOSIS.txt on my samba 2.2.2 server, I came across
the following test results:
Test 5:
[root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -B resaddr8.research.bio2.edu '*'
querying * on 209.64.53.8
name_query failed to find name *
This appears to be a partial failure?
Test 6:
Initially, I got:
[root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -d 2 '*'

Still Having Problems
I am still having trouble with my Windoze2K machine resolving the NetBIOS
name of my Samba server. It appears in the Network Neighborhood window but
clicking on it gives the "Server not accessible, network path not found"
On the server, nmblookup returns names of other machines, but not the
server itself unless I use "nmblookup -B 192.0.0.199 lserver." Otherwise it

Problems connecting to Samba through windows
I just started using Linux a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to setup samba.
I have a couple of text books I have been following which have helped me be able to run the
smbclient from Linux to view both the shares on my Linux and xp machine.
The problem is that I can not access the Linux files from my xp machine. I can ping the machine
without a problem and can also view the machine

LAN Browsing shows IP Addresses instead of Computer Names.
I'm trying to figure out how I can have my lan browser display computer
names instead of IP Addresses. I think the ip addresses are generated by my
router since if I add a new computer, the ip addresses will be different for
each computer. anyway let me give you the specs first. Running Samba
2.2.8a-1 on Red Hat 7.3. I have not set up WINS or DNS at all. I have set

"name_query failed to find name" when using broadcast address
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to set up a Windows XP Pro client to connect to a Samba
server (version 2.2.8) on a Redhat 8.0 linux box, but have been having
trouble for the past 3 days. I have gone through Troubleshooting Samba
at [http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/Samba24Hc13.pdf] but I can't
figure out how to fix the problem. I suspect that the broadcast address
may not be the same on both

windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm
clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux.
When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the
workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each
other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't
really understand

Samba problem
Hi,
I have a problem connecting my Windows98 to the Samba server.
The Linux computer comes up in the "Network Neighborhood" control panel,
but when I double click on the icon, W98 asks for a password for the
"\\machine name\IPC$" resource.
But my password will not me accepted. I have logged in as user "root"
with
a given password on both computers.

configuration problem
Hi All:
I'm worse than a newbie at this so if this seems a bit dumb please accept
my appologies.
I've gone to us1.samba.org/samba/docs/DIAGNOSIS.htm and run all of the
tests. My installation appears to pass all of them except for this one:
nmblookup -B ABNER
Yes, Abner is all in uppercase on both the windoz box and the Linux box.
All of the other tests appear fine.

Windows 95
I am having a problem with some Windows 95 PC's .
I had Samba 2.0.5 installed on a Sun system with Solaris 6, and a local
network of PC's with W95 and W98, and everything was working fine. I then
installed a new server with Solaris 8, and changed the IP addresses on the
network, and the W98 PC was fine as was one of the W95 PC's, but 2 W95Pc's

No machine account possible?
Hi all,
Yesterday, i changed from samba 2.2.3 to samba 3.0, and also i changed
the machines which samba is running on. Samba worked and should work
as a PDC. It runs on a Debian sid, the test client is a notebook with
XP Professional.
Yesterday, immediately after migrating, everything worked fine. Even
after several reboots, i could logon as a domain user, and i could use
the shares. Today, i

Windows 7 can't see my Samba server
It's really weird how many times thing break in threes. This time is

Anyway...
My network has a router and 2 computers; my F11 box with the samba
server on it called steve and my wife's laptop now running Windows 7

My old router was a Linksys WRT54G that I had flashed with DD-WRT. I
was using DHCP and DNS masquerading in
