Is there a way to map NT names to UNIX names when they are not the same. 95% of our are which is great but we have a few that are different. For example, we have NT user "bigboy" who's Unix account is "smallboy", how can I make an association, oh learned 1's. struggling with simple webdav
Normally I use authzldap to authenticate LDAP users but in this case, I have a client that wants non-LDAP users to be able to use DAV. The twist is that there are several virtual hosts on this server and perhaps that is confusing things... anyway, my httpd.conf has... <Location /webdav> Dav On AllowOverride None Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AuthType Basic AuthName

Access Problem connecting from windows 2000 client to Samba UNIX server Share
On friday we changed our smb.conf file to test the security model that uses DOMAIN authenticacion. It worked fine testing two seperate usernames from Multiple Workstations connecting to a WORLD access share on the SAMBA server. I have to say nothing has changed at all since friday, apart from the weekend :) and we now get this MS error message when trying to connect the same share again from

Auth. from Win2k Works
We have been able to get windows workstations to validate against win2k for authentication, but in looking at local shares on the linux box (via samba), do the users need to be localized to a group in /etc/group to allow access to files on the linux system that samba is running on. Here is the smb.conf we have come up with (along with modifications): [global] workgroup = donbest

Samba-4.10.4 strange behaviour
Hello All, I'm new to the list and I don't have much of experience with samba. I have a test setup on CentOS 7.8 with samba-4.10.4 and samba-vfs-glusterfs . When my client mounts the samba share via vers=1.0 , the user sees the share properly (uid, gid, mode are just like on gluster). When the share is mounted with vers=2.0 or not specified (anything higher) the files are owned by

File deletion problem with samba 2.2.8a and 3.0.0
Hi everybody, I'm having problems with a samba PDC (both 2.2.8a and 3.0.0). I have 2 shares (one of them is public - ie. world writable -, the other one is the homes shares). when I try to delete a file from any of those, the file is deleted properly by windows explorer, but it then pops up a message box with the message "cannot find the specified file". The same kind of error

Samba-4.10.4 strange behaviour
Hi Felix, thanks for the share. Sadly it doesn't work and I don't know how to start debugging this one. I tried your config (had to switch from domain member to standalone) but it's the same: [global] ??????? netbios name = yourName ??????? workgroup = yourWorkgroup ??????? realm = YourRealm ??????? log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m ??????? max log size = 50 ??????? security = ads

RCS/delete on close/delete readonly
Hi Apologies if this is a FAQ, I've tried Googling... I'm trying to set up CD-RCS on Windows boxes talking to our Linux Server (Samba 3.0.10-1.fc1.1.legacy). Apparently, the way this works is that it needs to be able to delete files that are read-only and not owned by you; they recommend that you set "delete readonly = yes" in the config file. The problem is that this

Problem Samba Share
I'm running out of things to check. I have two servers running Samba 2.3.3, one as a Domain Controller one as a Member Server. Both are running Ubuntu 8.10. smbd, nmbd and winbindd using the tdb back end are running on both. On the Member Server when I access the [Projects] share everything works as expected. When I access the [Windows] share I get prompted for a user name and password

Group share problem
Hi I've set up some group accessible shares on a rhel4u8 linux box running samba 3.0.33 This appeared to be functioning correctly (a week ago) but now users are having issues with accessing the shares when mapped to a drive in Windows XP. Shares were set up as follows: [Project] comment = Project area path = /home/mymount/Project writable = yes directory
