Migrating from TNG to 2.2
Hi, is there a HOWTO about migrating from Samba TNG to Samba 2.2? I have problems with the user profiles on the Windows client machines, they are recreated on login on the new Samba (2.2.5) machine. I copied the SID (with smbpasswd), /etc/passwd and smbpasswd to the new machine, and everything works fine, except for the user profiles. Currently we are not using server-saved profile, but we will

PDC migration from samba-tng to samba 3
Hello, I have inherited a samba-tng PDC (without ldap) that I am to upgrade to samba 3. My first attempt failed miserably. I copied over the smbpasswd and the domain SID, users were able to log in, but most were not able to load their profiles. I think I have to copy over machine IDs, but I'm not sure how to proceed. The migration section of the the howto doesn't seem to apply to

Where do SIDs come from?
Hello, I've got a potentially major problem: I've recently changed from samba-TNG (vintage last February) which was working tolerably well in our environment barring a few locking problems and the ever increasing tdb files and memory footprint. As our number of clients has passed 150, the amount of memory used on our Solaris server became unsustainable and I took the decision to migrate

A cautionary tale on multiple databases under a single Rails app
Here is a cautionary tale to help others avoid my folly! I kept running into bizarre problems with my rails app. I run the latest Rails with FastCGI, Oracle 10g and Apache 1.x. After moderate load the server would throw up application errors. Looking in the logs I noticed that my underlying Oracle DB was complaining that it had opened too many processes and won''t open any more. Hmm...

The Cautionary Tale of Multi-Arch glib
I'm mainly writing this in hopes that it gets picked up by Google in case anyone else runs into this problem. I was going to distribute the source & binaries for the first sneaky- peek at Swfdec for Mac OS X today. But yesterday, when I tried running my player application within Mac OS X's PowerPC emulator (Rosetta), I noticed it was crashing in some animations with the

Cautionary tale about c (PR#695)
This situation arose in a computer practical this morning. A student overwrote "c" with a function. This messes up lots of things, but it is difficult to remove the function "c" from the global environment because it is used as a function in both "rm" and "remove". [The solution was to reassign "c" as a number, and then remove it.] Would it be

Samba 3.0 won't join Samba-TNG domain
Hi, I posted this problem before in more detail (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=samba&m=104756899022766&w=2) but received no response. At the current state of Smaba 3.0 and Samba-TNG these two seem to be incomaptible. Samba 3.0 can't join a TNG controlled domain. I think this should affect a lot of installations as TNG as a controller and "stable" as file/printserver seem

help on samba-tng
Dear all, This is an embedded firmware engineer Honey from China, and I am studying the samba and samba-tng, because the size of samba is too large to my development. I want to port the samba-tng to embedded ARM Linux system, use the kernel version is 2.6.35, but I found the samba-tng can't be compiled by cross compiler(arm-none-linux-gnueabi-gcc). And I can't

SMB: : ver 2.2x vs 3.0 vs tng (diff's)?
OK: First, please respond to me directly, as I'm not on the TNG list. Here's the situation: I will be setting up a "computer lab" for 30-40 PC's with various users (students). Here are my needs: 1) One Touch (point) User administration (the simpler the better) 2) Simplest set of LINUX SW possible 3) NO NT PDC 4) All clients are W2K. 5) Want

Migrating from TNG 2.6alpha
Would like to know if it is possible to switch to the latest production release of samba (2.2.3a) from samba-tng 2.6alpha and maintain the same configuration, password, mapping files, security identifiers, etc as tng. If not how would I convert my setup from tng to main with minimal effort? thank you __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Got something to say? Say

Errors in browsing and authentication on a FreeBSD dual samba/samba-tng installation
Dear list I haven't been able to track down the cause of the following problems and hope someone can shed some light... We have been running samba-tng successfully on our school FreeBSD 4.5RELENG server for 18 months or so, but now need the facility of downloadable printer drivers for our W2k clients. I have installed samba 2.2.7a alongside our running samba-tng (2.6.1cvs) in a dual head

Migration from Samba-TNG-alpha 2.6.1 to Samba-2.2.x
Hello, first of all, this is a message corresponding to a thread named similar in tng-users mailinglist (tng-users@samba-tng.org). I am successfully running a samba-tng server at work for quite a year now but now I want to get to the "official" version (2.2.x) again for increased stability, namely in file locking issues. The samba-tng server is holding about 35 users along with their

Migration to TNG
Hi list, as a result of horrible error logs and no sleep I would be able to throw my smb2.2.4 out of the window and take a phone call to dell for a nt box ... but I'll try once again. I know, this is the wrong list, but maybe here I get more Developers. My simple question is: If my PDC (WinS -> named, system is SuSE 7.3 but newest versions of all relevant software) won't run as smooth

Samba 3.0 versus Samba TNG
Just a small question before I dare to install Samba TNG: Is there any functionality in the latest Samba TNG (I think 0.3.2) which is *not* implemented in Samba 3.0? TIA! :) -- Best regards, Bernhard Lukas Pericom Communication Consulting GmbH 1060 Wien, Mariahilfer Strasse 47/1/3 Tel. 01 585 49 72 - 42 Fax. 01 585 49 72 - 33 Web. www.pericom.at

Windows 2000 and TNG
Hello all: I just recieved Windows 2000 Professional Final Release. I am currently running Samba in order to serve my Windows 95 & Windows 98 Machines. From my understanding, I needed to get something called TNG. I read instructions on CVS and it downloaded TNG onto my computer. Then I went on and did "./configure", "./make", and am about to do "./make

samba-tng-alpha-1.1.tar.gz
ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha and mirror sites 1) i fixed a problem with nmbd's GETDC response, it is responding better but still not perfectly (and 2.0.x and cvs main need to be fixed, as well) as there exists no explanation for the correct response to locate a Domain Controller using GETDC. the upshot of fixing this is that joining an nt workstation to a TNG domain is now _extremely_

Re: More on Samba 3.0 vs Samba TNG
Hi, well, I guess that this is something that I need to plan to do :-). I'm developing a plan for a group of updated docs for TNG (and Samba, compared to TNG). Quickly, you're asking for 1) A bulleted list? 2) A Kvivio flowchart? 3) Some other comparison? Could you tell me in general terms: do you need to "sell" TNG to the boss or something? I can't give it to you now.

HEAD/TNG Problems.
I've followed the instructions in the DUAL-SAMBA-HOWTO to try to install a Dual Samba system. I'm running Redhat 7.0 (awaiting my 7.3 in the post). I've installed it, added the user `CSMSRV-HEAD$' to both linux and also, using 'samedit' to TNG. This is the name of my HEAD samba server running. I've changed the security = share, and the server works on the network.

samba-tng-alpha-0.14.tar.gz
ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha and mirror sites. finally resolved some of the niggling issues that have kept tng from working: in particular, thanks to karl denninger for helping track down "invalid users = root" in the [global] section which stops root from being able to access anything, including being able to add user accounts! tng is now back where it was about 6 weeks ago: -
