Samba BDC and secrets.tdb question
I have a question about setting up a samba BDC
(with a samba PDC).
I am running Samba as the PDC on a small network.
Other Unix boxes on the network are running
with:
security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = Yes
update encrypted = Yes
password server = 192.168.1.5
So they make use of the PDC for smbmount and smbsh
applications. The W2K box also uses Samba at the PDC.
I want to set up a Redhat

Configure parameters for Redhat Linux 7.1
Redhat Linux will install and configure Samba
Currently 2.2.1a.
The pieces are not placed in /usr/local/samba/...
Does anyone have the configure parameters that would
allow a "make install" of Samba 2.2.2 to put
everything in the right place?
I could not find this in the archives.
Also, it appears smbsh is still broke in
Samba 2.2.1 for Redhat 7.2. Is this known
to be the case?

Wine - Broderbund Print Shop - printing
I am running wine 20050725.
I used winetools to get an assortment
of software loaded and with a bit of tweeking
it worked.
I then ran the install CD for Broderbund
"The Print Shop". It loaded OK and after
copying a few dll's from my windows box, it
came up and ran.
My problem is with printing.
After reading through the users guide on printing
and poking around in the archives

apply to this (security=domain) case, since auth is via the PDC.
So, shouldn't winbind_lookup_sid() be succeeding. Should I be
trying to track the failure in that code?
In case it's helpful, ldd /usr/sbin/smbd shows:

Smbmount for Solaris 8?
I see that smbmount is for Linux only. I have a need for a Solaris 8
Sun to see a Win2k shared volume, currently as read-only. So I have a
few questions:
- Is there a read-only capability of smbmount for Solaris 8?
- Is there a Solaris 8 version of smbmount in development? Is
so, when would it be released?
- Can you name any commercial packages that offer the ability to
mount NTFS file

Controlling Samba with xinetd
Hi all
Just a query from a fellow tech who's playing with Samba.
He just asked me the following question, it's something I've
never really thought of, but on the face of it could be worth
further investigation.
Any thoughts??
TIA

Hello AndyBe,
I download the ISO's and started the reinstall. It went through all the normal setup up to outputting the message that it was starting Anaconda. Then the screen went blank and stayed that way. This is the same symptom as when it

Xorg problem
I was also successful with 7 computers, however they run version 6.7.
For some reason this one computer upgraded to 6.8 and Xorg does not work.
I also changed to 3 different terminals and it did not help.
I am not giving up yet.
Thanks

Thanks for responding. I really don't know why I have the problem

Thanks

have a hosts allow or hosts deny line in your smb.conf. If you don't
want samba to do reverse lookups, then comment out any allow/deny hosts
lines in your smb.conf file.

Need help
I am also using CentOS, but to get a bug fixed, you have to go upstream to RedHat. I think John Pierce is right, I had to change my run level to get the alternate consoles to work. I still have the machine at run level 3 hoping that a bug fix lets me go back to run level 5. Other machines work fine, just the 2 with the MACH64 video on the motherboard will no longer run X.
