smbclient works, smbmount does not
Hi there, after browsing the mailing list archives for several hour I still couldn't find an answer to my problem, although it for sure sounds as if many people posted the same problem. Yet, none of the threads dealing with problems like these matched my problem, so I have to start a new thread on my own. This is my system environment: Linux machine: - Mandrake Linux 8.1 - samba-2.2.1a

problems mounting Win2003 Server Share - smbclient is working smbmount is not
Hi, this is my first post to this list. I have to mount an Win2003 SmallBusinessServer share to my linux box. So far so good. The user "user" exists with the same pass on the linux-box like in the ActiveDirectory at the Win2003-Server. I added the user with smbpasswd -a user . I joined the domain with: net rpc join -S domain -U user mount -t smbfs -o username=user, workgroup=domain,rw

Weird authentication difference between smbclient and smbmount
Hello I already posted this in smb-clients, but seeing the load difference I repost in the samba list. I am currently using samba 3.0.10 with kernel 2.6.9. In the doc one is encouraged to use 'security = user' level. If I then connect with 'smbclient //machine/share -U myname%mypass' all works well. But when I try to mount the share localy with smbmount //machine/share

linux 2.2.x and smbmount 2.0.5a: Win95 bugfix?
I have become quite confused about the interaction of the kernel versions and the different versions of Samba and smbmount. I have just upgraded to a 2.2 kernel. 'make menuconfig' gave no choice by which to enable the Win95 bug workaround. At the same time, smbmount 2.0.5a, which seems to be the proper one for a 2.2 kernel (it's the latest provided by Debian, under the name

smbmount shares not lasting
I've got a machine running RedHat Linux 6.2 on a P-II400 with 256MB of ram. I'm mounting shares in the manner 'mount -t smbfs -o uid=user, gid=group //server/share /mount/point'. The server is a genuine NT 4 server, with SP5 and a couple of hotfixes. I mounted a couple of shares yesterday, and overnight the stopped working. When accessing the share, I get an error message that

smbmount error
I posted a similar email recently regarding this. One thing has changed, however; I have upgraded my kernel to 2.2.6 (hence I'm now using the samba version of smbmount rather than the smbfs version). I get the error "no such device" when trying to mount a network drive. My command line is: smbmount "\\\\susangra\\c-hd" -c 'mount /mnt' the console text which

smbmount problems when mounted share goes offline.
(using samba-2.0.7 on Debian Linux 2.2.15) Hi, I'm wondering how do I get around the problem when you smbmount a share on a win32 machine and that machine reboots, the mount becomes a blackhole. If you attempt an 'ls', 'df' or anything that would access that mount point the program then goes into a state of void and cannot be killed, leaving the proc open until reboot

smbmount and win2003 sp1
Hi All: I encountered a problem with smbmount and win2003 sp1. Before I upgrade sp1, everything works fine. But after sp1, smbmount = can't work. The command and error message are as follows: smbmount //localhost/share1 /tmp/mountest -o = username=3Ddomainu1,password=3Dpassword ERRDOS - ERRnoaccess (Access Denied.) SMB connection failed I also checked the release note about the issue, and

2.0.05a smbmount problem
I think that I have found what I consider a bug using smbmount 2.0.05a that came with linux 6.1, and also have a question at the end of this e-mail. I can successfully mount a shared drive from a windows NT machine using the following format. smbmount //computername/sharedfolder /mountpoint -U username%password I can manipulate folders and files from the linux computer with no problem. However

Problem with smbmount and smbfs
I'm not sure if this has already be answered, but when I try to mount something using smbmount I get an error that smbfs needs mount version 6. I am running kernel 2.2.16-3 I was running 2.2.14-5.0 and I was still having the same problem. Is there a fix to this. Or is it a bug. I have not been able to find any documentation on the exact problem, just other people with the same problem.

Problems with smbmount
I have a problem. When I mount my CD (witch is on WIN97 machine) using smbmount I do not see all files in all dirs. If dir have more then, let say, 100 files (it is not the same every time), I do not see all files. This is a problem because on my Linux box I do not have CD-ROM, so if I have to install some packages I first have to copy rpm files on disk, and then install them witch is annoying.

Hi, Since i upgraded to Linux Redhat 9.0 / samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0 / kernel 2.4.20-9 i have the following problem: # smbmount //amd/Films /mnt/disk -o username=jan, password=XXXXXX # In 50% of the times i do this command it mounts the share and goes into daemon mode and ps -aux shows one process smbmount. All ok. However in the other 50% the command just hangs. If i open a new window it did do

smbmount discontinued?
In a past thread I've notice that smbmount (and mount's suport for it) will be discontinued and smbclient should be used insted. Sorry if the question is too lame but I use it in some of my systems now and I think I'll have trouble porting then to smbclient. Is smbmount been removed because it relays on kernel smb support? Samba will not need smb support in kernel in the

smbwrapper or smbmount ?
Hi ! The O'Reilly "Using Samba" book, recommend not to include smbmount support as it is for Linux only: "This feature wasn't being maintained at the time the book was written, so the Samba team made it an optional feature and provided smbwrapper instead. The smbwrapper feature works on more Unix platforms than smbmount, so you'll usually want to use --with-smbwrapper

smbmount
I installed samba on a PC running SuSE 10.2, using the version from the SuSE 10.2 repository (3.0.23). All very nice, except smbmount is missing. As I understand it, this would seem to be because the version offered had not been compiled with the --with-smbmount option. Is my interpretation correct? And if so, how can I fix things? Do I have to download the source and do my own compilation

does smbmount use keepalive and/or smb.conf?
Greetings, I don't know how common an issue this is as I haven't found much in the list archives that was helpful to me, so I'm hoping for some pointers. FYI, we have samba 2.3.3a-6 running on the 2.4.18-10 kernel. There seems to be an issue with smbfs mounts at times where connectivity may be lost (e.g. Win share becomes unavailable) causing local processes such as lsof or ps,
