Samba 4: LookupAccountName fails
Hello,
I don't know if this is the right list to discuss this topic.
I have a FreeBSD (virtual) machine running Samba 4 alpha 11 which acts
as a AD and another (virtual) machine running Windows 2000 which is a
domain member. When a program on the W2k machine calls
LookupAccountName to translate an user name to the SID this translates
roughly to the following steps:

net getlocalsid problem ???
Hi List,
I'm currently migrating from win2000 to linux ( samba 3.0.10-1.4E ).
Domain = TESTDOMAIN
Windows Box Name = TESTPDC
Linux Box = LINUXPDC
I have joined the windows pdc from the linux box. Next I use: net getsid
-S TESTPDC -W TESTDOMAIN which puts my SID in secrets.tdb. All is fine
here. Next I use net getlocalsid which gives me an error so I use net
getlocalsid TESTDOMAIN

cwRsync- chdir failed, server 2003
I'm having prolems with cwRsync on server 2003. I'm getting pretty much
identical results to this from the archive:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2004-April/009187.html, and as far
as I can see the only suggestion there was to check permissions.
I have one further complication too- I'm trying to sync a remote server
on to a vmware virtual disk that I've mounted using the

Does create_resources support virtual resources?
Hi all,
I''m interested pushing my user list out of my users manifest and into
Hiera. Unfortunately I haven''t been able to get it to work the way I
thought it would. The error suggests that perhaps create_resources
cannot create virtual resources, but the docs I''ve read so far don''t
address it.
The class (in init.pp):

Transparent migration of users to a samba PDC, how about cygwin tool ?
Hi,
I would like to migrate from NT PDC to a Samba PDC.
My main concern is that all my users have local profile (i.e. there is
no roaming profiles). It seems that users profiles on a workstation are
not valide when migrating to the Samba PDC. It seams that the users
cannot keep the same identity. On the other hand, I would really like
to change PDC without users noticing anything.

How to get Default builtins added?
I recently decided to upgrade to the tdbsam: backend, but I'm
missing the built-security principles.
Do I need to go back to the smbpasswd backend, and add them in
the file *first* before converting?
I had them there at one point, but I think I think I deleted
them because they weren't working. Cygwin's mkgroup command couldn't
seem to pull in the groups from my samba server).

at http://www.chinese-watercolor.com/LRP/printsrv/cygwin-sshd.html ). I
recently installed active directory on a windows server 2003 system and
promoted it to a domain controller. The problem is, only users in the

Building Stand-Alone NT Installer. Need Advice on File Structure. Thank you!
--
Hello Everyone,
I am trying to build a stand-alone installation application of
OpenSSH 4.1p1-1. The target of this project is the NT platform
(NT/00/XP/03). I've met with success and am happy so far with the
progress. I cross-checked all executables and DLL's for dependencies.
All executables and DLL's should truly stand-alone (dependent on
nothing outside the enclosed tree).

Some more win32-security: SID.create
Hi all,
How does this look as a general approach to a SID.create method:
# Creates and initializes
def self.create(authority, *sub_authorities)
if sub_authorities.length > 8
raise ArgumentError, ''maximum of 8 subauthorities allowed''
end
authorities = Array.new(8, 0)
authorities.replace(sub_authorities)
count = authorities.select{ |e| e > 0 }.size
