Ajax Tabbed Browsing
I was wondering if anyone has done this, namely make tabbed browsing
exactly like a web browser, but have it within the page.
I would like to make a search function that updates a section of the
page with the results, as well as makes a new tab that displays those
search results. Then, if a user did 5 searches, there would be 5 tabs.
Each tab would hide the other 4 results and show the

Limiting the columns loaded from a legacy db
I''m setting up a new Rails project that is a nice front end for a
company''s personnel database with a legacy schema.
Unfortunately, the table that contains all the standard information
(first name, last name, email address) has some 20+ columns, one of
which is a BLOB of a picture of the person.
Loading all this takes a while, when the application really only

But a Person has a "has_many" relationship and they are not in the xml,
=> so is it possible to change the depth of the marshall process ?
if it not possible, what are the "rails

WEBrick hangs with OCI8?
Has anyone experienced "hangs" with the WEBrick/OCI8 combination?
The sequence of actions I perform to consistently get WEBrick to hang is:
1. start WEBrick
2. list a table form my Oracle 10g DB
3. startup sqlplus and update a few records in the table
4. go back to my browser and reload the table
Here none of the chances I made directly to the table are reflected
in the listing.

Timzones, UTC, and to_xml()
Does anyone know a good way to hook into the AR to_xml() method to
allow for adjusting datetimes to a user''s timezone?
Basically I want a user to be able dump all their data before
cancelling an account. I store all datetime info as UTC as per the
recommendations of Jamis Buck and Scott Barron in the Rails Recipe
article "Dealing with Timezones". Come to think of it I bet

[PATCH] ocfs2: Don't print error when listing too many xattrs.
Currently, when listing xattrs, kernel define XATTR_LIST_MAX as 65536
in include/linux/limits.h, so it can't handle too many xattrs.
But with ocfs2 xattr tree, we actually have no limit for the number.
And it will pollute the message with something like this when listing.
(27738,0):ocfs2_iterate_xattr_buckets:3158 ERROR: status = -34

Oddities with Debian unstable dovecot
Hello,
I'm running an Debian etch box with unstable and ever since the last upgrade to dovecot, I've seen odd things. At times, I would see emails would go missing from the Inbox or other folders, and I couldn't move emails that were moved from the Inbox to another folder back into the Inbox. These have seen gone away since I removed all dovecot.* files and .index* files from my

Windows NT 4.0 SP3
I have Samba 1.9.17p2 and it works great on NT4.0 SP2
When I update to NT4.0SP3, my Samba connection gives me the following message:
The account is not authorized to login from this station.
Did something change?
Maybe NT4.0 SP3 uses a smb.conf option that wasn't used before?
I've installed the package version from the Solaris 2.5 web site.
I'm actually running Solaris 2.5.1

unit testing for R packages?
Hi All,
I'm interested in putting some unit tests into an R package I'm
building. I have seen assorted things such as Runit library, svUnit
library, packages
with 'tests' directories, etc
I grep'd "unit test" through the writing R extensions manual but didn't find
anything. Are there any suggestions out there? Currently I have
several (a lot?) classes/methods

Problem printing from NT to printer attached to LInux box
I installed Samba 2.2.2 on my Linux box. The smb.conf file is as shown
below. The permission on /var/spool/lpd/lp is set to 755; ie, it is
writable only by the owner, which is lp. With the setup as is, when I
try to print from the NT machine, the smb log on the Linux box
indicates the following error: " print_job_start: insufficient
permissions to open spool file /var/spool/lpd/lp".

rookie - mount nt share from Solaris 2.6?
I believe I know the answer, but I'd like to be
certain, since I keep seeing references to things like
smbmount and smbfs...
Is it possible to mount an NT (4.0sp3) share onto a
Solaris 2.6/Sparc? I just grabbed Samba 2.0.6.
I suspect not (I don't see any smbmount or smbfs in my samba/bin
directory).
Will this ever be a possibility? If so, when?
And, are there any other options for

File Creation Dates Question
Hi all,
I searched the archives for a solution to this issue
but didn't find any thing.
I have an office with a mix of PCs running ME and XP
that use Samba 2.2.7 under RH Linux 7.3 as an archive
for mortgage information.
When documents are moved to the Samba share, the file
creation timestamp on the Linux box reflects the time the files
were created on the PCs. What I need is for the

ruby-debug 0.1.3
Hello Everyone,
I''m pleasant to announce the release of ruby-debug 0.1.3.
If you think that ruby-breakpoint is too limited for your needs and
debug.rb brings your application to its knees, you might find
this small extension useful.
INSTALL
It''s a usual procedure:
$ gem install ruby-debug
DOCS
This library has almost identical interface with the standard debug.rblibrary.

Re: [brandz-discuss] Re: BrandZ, Xen and Chime for Solaris 10 U3 ?
Xen will not be in update 4. We are pushing towards integrating into
Nevada sometime this summer.
We''re actively working on getting another release out to OpenSolaris. I
have my latest attempt at building an ISO image spinning in another window
right now.
This new release will be based on Nevada build 66. It''s been a
ridiculously long time since our last release, and I
