elegant way to check if 2 values are in 3 columns?
Dear all,
I'm trying to rerun some data linkage exercises in R (they are designed
to be done in SPSS, SAS or STATA)
The exercise in question is to relabel the column "treat" to "1", if
"yearsep" is smaller than 1988 and columns "proc1"-"proc3" contain the
values 56.36 or 59.81.
My pathetic solution to do this in R currently looks like

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just
can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet
interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba
network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox,
but they can't see each other.
Here's my setup:

Problem with a program called winbox
This winbox application is one that I use to manage routers for myself
and my customers, so it is unlikely that there are many others trying to
use it. I have used this program (through several versions of the
program itself) on my Fedora laptop from FC8 all the way to Fedora 14.
I don't know what wine versions that spans, but it's over 5 years and it
has worked flawlessly. When I first

Samba windows mount problem - some files and directories can't be seen even though they exist!
Hi.
I have mounted a Windows 2000 Pro computer under linux using:
mount -t smbfs -o username=phill,password=xxxxx //winbox/drivec /mnt/winbox
I can then jump into /mnt/winbox/ and navigate around the Win 2000 box.
But...
For some reason some of the files and directories on the windows
computer are not showing up.
For example, I have just moved a heap of wav files for our

How would you spec out something like the following:
def a_method
x = Class.new do
include Enumerable
end
# do something here with x
end
describe "The Anonymous Class" do
before :each do
@anonymous_class = mock Class
Class.stub!(:new).and_return @anonymous_class
end
it "should create a new anonymous class" do

This my first mail in this list.
We have succesfully setup a samba server at our 1st attempt, next we go in another site and try
the same things but now it seems we got it all wrong!
The facts:
we have a linuxbox (named enlogic) (REdHat 7, kernel 2.2.18, samba 2.0.7)and one winbox
win98se (named ndemou). Our workgroup is localenlogic.
No other PC (not even a Hub because we've

I am trying to work out the problem given in Nested design - Montgomery - Design of Experiments p.561
I have attached a pdf of the data as well the anova table. It is a mixed model with Supplier as fixed effect and batches within the supplier as random effects.
I am able to work out the error stratums as below using aov. Which agrees perfectly with the book example

INFO Request: Samba PDC, Windows NT4 Style, Failure to Add Trusted Machine
Here's my document reference point:
http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/domain-member.html#machine-trust-accounts
I've had some moderate success setting up this Samba network. But, it's
failing at adding a Windows XP Pro machine to the trusted machine list,
or it's disallowing it to log in. This explanation is as complete as I
can make it, so it will be

can't browse across subnets
Hi folks -
I'm having an issue here.
I have my samba server sitting on one subnet, and the rest of the clients
sitting on another (due to IP administration reasons).
I assign both my clients and the server to the same workgroup, but
the winboxen clients can't browse to the samba server.
The win clients all have WINS resolution turned on, and I specified

Subset of Data
Hi Arun,
I have a question about choosing a subset of data.
I have a matrix of 5000 in 3500.
I want to choose specific variables such as proc1 to proc1000 and Lab1 to Lab1600 and put it into a new matrix to run some correlation analysis.
Since I have 3500 variables, I don't know from what column my lab or procedures start.
I really appreciate your help.
Thanks.

Fonts in Quartz Devices
Hi,
I'm new to R. I'm using a Mac OS X 10.5 and R 2.7.0. I'm trying to
change the font family for a plot in a quartz device.
Simply passing the desired font by using the family argument works
with other devices, but not with quartz. Am I missing anything? I've
already checked the docs for quartz and quartzFonts, but didn't find a
solution.
Any help much appreciated.
