new to samba
hello I just installed redhat 7.2 and I want to get samba working. I read the man file for smb.conf but there's a question that I just can't figure out. This is what I have : I have a LAN with two win2k workstations and a linux box. This is what I would like to do: I would like to to have each user have access to a public folder and to their own home folder. How do I do that?

Serious bug in Samba 3.0.2pre1 !!!
Summarization of the bug in Samba 3.0.2pre1: It seems that an ADS group is not valid or detected anymore to access a samba share, in case only an ADS group is used a valid user on a Samba share, because Kerberos is reporting: Username (null) is invalid on this system. Besides that, connecting to a share (service) reports with Samba 3.0.0-2 REALM\username (NH-TEST.NL\fo6), but with Samba 3.0.2pre1

smbclient on MacOS X via PPTP won't mount Win2k share
Hello! Following situation: A linux gateway with pptpd is connected via ethernet to a Win2k box. The Win2k server's netbios and DNS name is "server". Issuing a "smbclient //server/share" from the linux box works. I watched the tcpdump output carefully to see what happens. The linux box ("promogate") immediately sends this session request: 18:30:08.988555

installing software on Win2k workstations with samba PDC
Dear list readers, we run Samba 2.2.3a on our server system. It servers as a primary domain controller to a group of Win2k SP2 workstations. Workstation can automatically join the domain (using the administrator's account) and access all file shares. We are experiencing a strange behaviour when it comes to install drivers or certain software packages. Just two examples: ACDsee v3: Admin

Finding out who's on, from a Win2k Perl Script
Hi list members. There probably isn't an answer for this, but just in case there is... I have samba running as a PDC (Samba 2.2.8a, RH7.3, Win2k clients). On one of the Win2k Clients (one I use for admin work), I have apache2 and Perl. One of my CGI-BIN scripts uses perl to do some web pages (nothing large scale, private use mainly with a ODBC database on the workstation. My question is, if

It was working fine with the 2.x series, until I upgraded to 3.0. The debian server (al) is a PDC for a small NT domain (isabela) with three workstations, all running win2k pro. All but one work fine

Machine trust relationship failed
Hi, I am having trouble joining a Win2K machine to a Samba domain. The Win2K machine is patched and up-to-date. The Samba machine is running Debian Sarge and Samba 3.0.14a-Debian. The passdb-backend is OpenLDAP, but I don't think this is relevant; I have tried with tdbsam as well, and had exactly the same results. I have been mainly following this guide:
