I've a Samba 3 that works with an openldap server as a sole domain controller. I used to use the Microsoft usermanager. After a general migration/upgrate I am not able to create new users anymore. which rsync command?
This is looking good and very helpful to an rsync novice. I will try the modification rsync --dry-run -avi --delete --filter 'protect /*’ --filter ‘protect /.*’ SOURCE/ TARGET/ and see what it produces. I do have a number of directories and files beginning with a dot in TARGET and these need to be protected. Unfortunately, the output from —dry-run is still likely to be sufficiently

Adding a global group works. I'm logged on as "Administrator". I'm running Samba 3.0.14a on Debian Sarge (testing) with the smbldap-tools (v0.8.8). What could I have done wrong?

Surprising/Unexpected result after deleting and re-adding a user on our Samba domain
I don't want to call this a security problem. Since it isn't a code exploit, but, many people might have this problem. The other day a user was removed from our SLES samba-3.0.28-0.6 domain due to inactivity, but he still needed his account, so I recreated it. I didn't try to restore the LDAP data, so he got a new SID, etc. I was amazed to find that once his userid was created,

Terminal Server entries in SambaPDC
Hello, is it possible to modify Terminal Server entries like 'Terminal Server Profile Path' and 'Terminal Server Home Directory' with 'pdbedit'? In case of 'yes', idd like to know the syntax. In case of 'no', can it be done otherwise (except for the usermanager in Windows)? Thanks in advance, Frank van Kruijl

Groups not listed in USERMGR.EXE
Dear list, I'm using samba 3.0.2a on a RedHat Linux server. Samba is configured as being a PDC. When I use the usermanager from SRVTOOLS.EXE on my W2K workstation I don't see any groups listed in the window below the userlist. Also when I look at the properties of on of the user (who is member of more than one group) I only see that a primary group is assigned, the one in /etc/passwd. The

Question to the Samba-Developer
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi there, as mentioned in a thread before, I'm in trouble when trying to add a local group via NT-Usermanager. I think the problem is the following line in the smb.conf: add group script = /usr/local/sbin/smbldap-groupadd -p "%g" In this case, the only parameter that is handed over to the smbldap-groupadd script is the name of the

Power Failures or Spikes
Hi all, My server is connected to a UPS but whenever there is a power failure or spike it seems that once all the clients come back up they cannot connect. I have to restart the server each time. This is no hardship but I was just wondering if anybody had the same problem and if so and they fixed it, how? Thanks Tom Ansley

which rsync command?
I hate to say it because it goes against my normal advice but this is one instance where using a * in the source parameter would help... rsync -vaiE --delete --dry-run source/* target/ This would ignore any top level directory that is on the target but not the source while rsyncing with --delete any top level directory that is on the source. It is normally recommended to not use a * in the

Samba 3.0.20 and UserManager
Hi all. Just tried to upgrade our test PDC server from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20, and now i've stumbled in to the following error. Using the User Manager for Domains causes a "Procedure out of range" error. Using DameWare NT Utilities causes the application to crash. Tried both in WIN2000 and XP. If I downgrade to 3.0.14a again everything is OK. Server Manager works OK in both versions.

Issues while compiling samba 3.0.2a
Dear List, First forgive me for my RTFM question yesterday about groups not appearing in the Windows usermanager (Karel Kulhav?, thanks for your reply). I did read the SAMBA HOWTO Collection but in a more 'vertical' way. This net groupmap thing must have passed my attention. I installed a prebuild version of Samba for redhat 8.0. Redhat however does not compile in ACL's in their
