samba digest, Vol 1 #708 - 17 msgs
Okay, let's try this again. I've gotten my samba 2.2.2 server doing everything BUT winbind, users can print, see shares, etc. And they're authenticating against a real NT 4.5 SP6a server (newly generated). When I get to the step where I need to join the domain, this is what happens: [root@NetServer samba]# smbpasswd -j BIO2RES -r DOMAIN-CONTROL -U Administrator Password: Error

Failing tests 5 and 6 in DIAGNOSIS.txt?
Hi, While going through DIAGNOSIS.txt on my samba 2.2.2 server, I came across the following test results: Test 5: [root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -B resaddr8.research.bio2.edu '*' querying * on 209.64.53.8 name_query failed to find name * This appears to be a partial failure? Test 6: Initially, I got: [root@NetServer samba]# nmblookup -d 2 '*' added interface

File nut.conf, does mode=netserver means no upsmon?
I'm reading man nut.conf, and trying to understand the MODE directive. Does the specification mode=netserver mean that only upsd and the driver(s) will be started, and that upsmon will not be started? The man page says "Distribution?s init script should source this file in order to determine which components have to be started." But looking at the code which starts upsd in the

tuning for samba server
Hi! anyone knows where to get some info for kernel (maybe via sysctl) and or samba tuning for high performance ? I have read all the samba docs available, so aim looking for others tips besides the tcp tunings usually applied in smb.conf ? i am setting a server on a client site, with many clients (about 100), and i am using a real server hardware (an HP netserver with xeon procesor@2.8Ghz, 1Gig of

Master Works, Slave Does Not
I have made changes but it is still the same. That is when the server gets the lowbat/noAC signal it does shut down as expected but the slave does not. Perhaps it makes sense for me to list the present settings: On the Master: nut.conf MODE=netserver ups.conf [sdrups] driver = genericups port = /dev/ttyS1 desc = "For Server &

RAID 1: missing operating system
Hi all, I'm trying to setup a RAID-1 with Centos4.2 on HP Netserver E60. The raid consists of 2 9,1GB SCSI disks. The partitioning and installation process went smoothly, but after it finished and rebooting, there is an error: Missing operating system. The partition is: / /home swap Bootloader is on device md0. What could be possibly wrong? Thank you, -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux

Much difference between netperf results on every run
Hi all, the throughput measured by netperf differs from time to time. The changeset was xen-unstable.hg C/S 11760. This is observed when I executed a netperf on DomU connecting to a netserver on Dom0 in the same box. The observed throughput was between 185Mbps to 3854Mbps. I have never seen such a difference on ia64. Regards, Hiroya _______________________________________________ Xen-devel

ftrace_enabled set to 1 on bootup, slow downs with CONFIG_FUNCTION_TRACER in virt environments?
Hey, I was running some benchmarks (netserver/netperf) where the init script just launched the netserver and nothing else and was concerned to see the performance not up to par. This was an HVM guest running with PV drivers. If I compile the kernel without CONFIG_FUNCTION_TRACER it is much better - but it was my understanding that the tracing code does not impact the machine unless it is

Client login delays - especially after reboot
I have just migrated to a new server and have Samba ver 3.0.12-5-SuSe running on a small network ( 7 win 98pcs) Logins are possible from all clients but morning logins (after client reboot) are delayed. It can take 2 or 3 attempts to successfully login. At each failed attempt the hour glass sits there for 30 seconds or so. logins usually succeed on the second or third attempt. I have searched

memory leaking?? kernel problem?
I would think someone would have noticed this in RHEL or CentOS if it was a pure kernel problem. What all are you running in the way of daemons? Something there could be to blame, no? Also, if the servers are identical in terms of software and hardware, have you considered a memory check? When I made the switch from Windows to Linux I discovered something interesting. Since Linux caches memory (as

Problem with SPNEGO on full trust 2016 DC <> Samba 4.10.7 AD
I've read the documentation that domain trusts should be fully supported with both Kerberos and NTLM authentication. I've created a new 2016 domain on a Windows box and created a Samba domain on a Linux box with a BIND9_DLZ backend. Both servers can resolve both DNS domains forwards and backwards and I am able to connect a Windows 10 client to the Samba domain without any issues. The

RE: SCSI Raid controller
Hi All, I have some old HP Netserver LPr?s that have old HP RAID controllers (NetRAID 3si?s). The RAID controllers don?t work too well with CentOS. I?ve not been able to get the installer to see the controllers. I?ve read a lot of notes that don?t seem to point to me having any success. So 2 questions. Has anyone successfully used NetRAID 3si controllers with CentOS? Can anyone recommend an

NUT 2.6.1 on Windows
Does anyone have pointers on how this should be done? Or even better if someone has sample config files for Windows configuration. I am using it in netserver mode. Just tried it but it seems upsmon can't connect saying ACCESS DENIED if I run it with upsmon -DDDD on the master itself.

Opinion on hardware (computer) for an Asterisk Server!
Hi list, I'm about to install Asterisk on an Old HP NetServer LC2000 Server (year 2001), it has 2 Pentium III 1GHz CPUs (Coppermine FSB 133MHz 256K L2 Cache), 768MB PC-133 ECC RAM, 3 UltraSCSI LVD2 18.2GB 10K RPM HDD in RAID5, 100Mb NIC for server. This Server will support 35 SIP phones (users) and 10 FXO ports (for telco lines) and 2 FXS ports (internal analog phones) with a Sangoma Remora
