Browsing across subnets connected by a linux router without using WINS
Hi! We have the following scenario: Subnet 1 ======= Contains PDC for domain DOM1 all clients in this subnet belong to DOM1 Subnet 2 ======= contains PDC for domain DOM2 all clients in this subnet belong to DOM2 These two subnets are connected via a multihomed linux box set up as a router between these subnets. IP routing definately works ok. What we want to achive is, to have full NetBIOS

Anonymous Samba share across subnets (without WINS?)
I'm trying to replace an old Windows 2000 server that is current set up with a number of open anonymous shares used by a legacy application that must remain in production for a few more years. I spent a few hours trying to create anonymous shares on a 2008 R2 box but gave up. My next idea was to use Samba to create an anonymous share, and following this quick-n-dirty HowTo:

NetBIOS across subnets
Hi all, I would like two Samba servers to be able to talk to each other via NetBIOS. The problem is that they are on two different subnets. I have enabled broadcast ping on the routers, and the servers can each ping the other subnet with no trouble. The two relevant IPs are 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.2.3. There is a T1 between two Cisco routers, and IP routing is all set up. Currently

WINS server DMB and LMBs not communicating across subnet to update browse lists?
Referencing: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/network_administration_guides/samba_reference_guide/17_NetworkBrowsing_34.html I've got two subnets (192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1). All the machines on both subnets are running XP Home or Pro and are all part of the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple

samba across subnets problems
I have a suse 8.0 server running samba 2.2.3, its ip adress is in 134.84.86.x and I'm trying to get it so that it works for both its subnet and 160.94.148.x. I have it configured how I want it for its own subnet, but I can't get it to work in the 160.94.148 subnet. This is what my smb.conf file looks like: [global] netbios name = muskrat workgroup = Statistics server string

Browsing across subnets - some more problems
Hi all, I am still battling to get browsing across subnets to work. I just need some clarification on some issues. I understand the following things to be the case, please correct me if I am wrong: - Machines on a subnet will periodically announce their existance by broadcasting to everyone their identity - Other machines will hear these broadcasts, and add the machines to their browse lists. -

domain logons across subnets
hi, I tried to make a win95 machine to perform a domain-logon to an NT server, which is in a diferent subnet, behind a linux-router. on this linux-router, I also installed samba. I noticed in log.nmbd, that the client always queries for a "0x1c" type, but never gets a response from nmbd. Thus , I "hacked" the "wins.dat" file, and restartet nmbd: HBLADOMAIN#1e

Joining domain across subnet
Hi All, If I have domain controller on a different subnet than the samba server and I would like to join that domain controller in an environment without WINS, meaning only DNS available. Unfortunately, it failed. Is it possible to do it? I am using domain type DOMAIN (not ADS) in smb.conf and the command I used is: "net join -Uname%passwd" I looked at the -d 10 log info and

Re: Joining a domain spanned across different subnets
Mark/All, I'm having the same problem...Any resolution yet? However I am using a NAT system between my two subnets and my logs show I definately get elected as the master on subnet (x) where the samba server is, but I need it to propogate to subnet (y) where the client is trying to sign in from. Any ideas out there? Please help if you can, thanks. -Jeff Mark Andrews wrote: > >

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets. On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available. The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured

1.9.17 printing across subnets
I cannot print across my subnets using microsoft win9networking. I have two subnets 192.168.0 & 192.168.1 of which the linux running samba server is the router using two ethernet cards . Workstations on both subnets share their printers from win95. Win95 machines from both sides of the subnet can telnet to both ethernet cards on the server and can also ping all machines across the two

Doubt on browsing across subnets
Hi everyone, I'm getting roughed up trying a new setup on my server. I tried this with 1.9.18p10 and now with 2.0.3, first I want to see if I'm getting this correctly and then if there's a solution to what I think is happening. I have the following setup: One server with two NICs IP1=130.6.96.2, IP2=130.6.98.2, SM = 255.255.255.0 (BTW, these are internal IPs, not internet

Sharing printers across subnets?
Hi everyone, I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but I'm having trouble getting my printer shares to be accessible on other subnets. I'm running Samba 2.0.3 (yes, I know it's OLD), and I'm using it only for printer sharing... It's set up to allow guest access only, since I'm only sharing printers. My two domain controllers are running Windows 2000 Server

winbind/samba across subnet bounderies?
I have two samba servers (version 2.2.2-2, debian sid) with identical configuration. One stands in the server room and is part of the server subnet. the other is in the normal 'user' subnet. I added both server (several times!) to the win2000 domain. the procedure was identical. Both have secret.tbs files of 8192 bytes opposite to the 6xx bytes which they have when they are not joined to

Access to Samba server across subnets
Hello all, I'm using samba 2.2.7a with winbind on a RedHat 7.3 (pre-installed by Dell) server, with an NT PDC/BDC, with the NT PDC acting as the WINS server. Everything works fine on the local subnet 192.168.0.xxx, but we also have an IPSec VPN set up with our western call centre, and users on the western office subnet 192.168.10.xxx can't login to the samba shares. They can login to

browsing, subnets, across, workgroups
Why does browsing across subnets only work if all of the machines are in the same workgroup? We're really a unix and mac campus, but we're trying to support windows machines by using a samba server to let them print and let the students access a little chunk of disk space. I've got a samba server set up as the workgroup SERVERS, and I've told it to be a domain master, a

Help On Multiple Netgroups Across Multiple Subnets
Hello, everyone, I'm new to this mailing list. So please excuse me if this topic has been discussed before. We have a network that consists of a few subnetworks. Each subnetwork has its own network address. In each subnet there are Windows 95/98/NT machines, as well as Linux/Unix machines that run Samba. NO NT Domain is used! I've configured cross-subnetwork browsing by 1. using

Domain login across subnets
Greetings, My envrionment is Samba 3.0.23d as a PDC, password backend is OpenLDAP 2.3.27, running on SuSE 10.1; workstations are Windows XP SP2, all recent patches applied. All machines are on the same Class B private IP network. Domain logons function perfectly, performance is very nice. For security and performance reasons we are looking at dividing the network into many VLANS, each with

Samba across multiple subnets
Hello, I've been trying to get samba to work across multiple subnets for some time now. The relevant portions of my smb.conf are below. browsing to smb://hostname works, and shares are listed coming from any subnet. smb:/ only lists available shares when browsing from the subnet that samba lives on. We've got several here and this is something I need to have working. wins should be
