no wins,nbt,etc only dns
Is it possible to disable all lookup protocols and only use DNS using samba when all hosts are w2k and a samba 3 domain controller?
I am only saying this on the assumption that you can disable wins, netbios, nbt when using DNS and a Microsoft AD as a domain controller.
If so what should the smb.conf file look like.
thanks

netbios-ns failing (looping)
Hello everybody,
I installed samba 3.0.1 on a solaris 8 and I don't understand the message
in /var/adm/messages
... netbios-ns/udp server failing (looping) service terminated
The command niscat services.org_dir returns
netbios-ns netbios-ns tcp 137 netbios name service
netbios-ns netbios-ns udp 137 netbois name service
Any ideas

Disabling NBT
I would like to disable NBT on my network but I also want to put SAMBA to greater use. Is there any way to do this without NBT? If not, will a future version of SAMBA be available that can?

prevent smbclient from trying 445?
When I use smbclient to access an IOMEGA NAS server, smbclient tries
to access port 445 for a full five minutes before timing out:

Netbios Browsing with 4.1.7 - Can I get some clarification on how to use "internal nbt server" (or if I am even able to)
I have been searching around - I cant seem to figure out if netbios

Thanks a lot

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering &
UserIDs .
For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access.
Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication.
I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways.
However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs,
then use User authentication

Questions on build farm
Hi all,
I've been looking at the samba build farm code and hope you can help
with a couple questions...
First, is the build_farm code usable under an open source license?
Second, does the build_farm currently run any network tests between a
client and server on separate machines?
Thanks,

dumb question about SMB and Squid
is there by any chance a smb modual for squid? Squid is a proxy/cache
server used on unix systems that gives pretty complete logs, but only lists
clients by IP.
Is there anyway to easily tie this to a netbios name incase your
administrating a windows network and want names associated with places
instead of IP's that can change on a DHCP network?
thanks all

winbind/samba across subnet bounderies?
I have two samba servers (version 2.2.2-2, debian sid) with
identical configuration. One stands in the server room and is
part of the server subnet. the other is in the normal 'user'
subnet. I added both server (several times!) to the win2000
domain. the procedure was identical. Both have secret.tbs files
of 8192 bytes opposite to the 6xx bytes which they have when they
are not joined to

smbmount/mount interaction
Hello,
I'm looking for some (user & technical) feedback on a change I'm
considering on how mount and smbmount works together.
The current way mounts are done are:
mount -t smbfs ... => smbmount ... => smbmnt
Possibly without the mount step. smbmount stays as a daemon and reconnects
when asked (unless it crashes).
Problems:
- Some mount options should affect if the mount

Unix to SMB password synchronisation
I have set up a web page describing my Unix to SMB password synchronisiation
which also has the source code to the C front end and expect script used.
http://www.btinternet.com/~p.polkinghorne/samba/u2s/
Note this is a Solaris specific solution - but should be adaptable to other
Unices.
Hope this helps someone ...

2.9.9p2 bug in PAM support
With OpenSSH 2.9.9p2 as the server, I'm not able to do scp or "ssh
machinename command" in general to any of my Suns!
I tracked this down a bit; the problem occurs only when PAM support is
enabled. However, if I remove line 430 of session.c,
"do_pam_session(s->pw->pw_name, NULL);" inside of do_exec_no_pty, the
problem goes away.
It looks like the following entry

Samba 3 doesn't compile - the saga continues...
Please see my post from 24 hours ago for the background on my efforts to get
Samba to run.
I received instructions to modify include/includes.h to change the #include
<compat.h> to #include <compat_ap.h>. Needless to say, this solved nothing
other than a bunch of harmless warnings. It also caused a different warning to
spew forth eternally from gcc, and more importantly, it

Netbios Aliases and %L and port 445
Running v3.0.2a-SUSE, joined to AD, all clients are XP.SP2
When smb.conf has "smb ports = 139", then %L is populated with the
appropriate netbios alias name as selected by the end user, and
everything works as expected.
When "smb ports = 445" or is not specified, then %L is populated with
the host name instead of the alias name. Is there a code patch for %L
