vignette index not linked into HTML help system for package
Dear R developers,
I observed that the html help page index entry "Read overview or browse
directory" for package vignettes is missing in recent R-devel.
This happened on two independent computers (WinXP Prof. SP3, German)
with R-devel compiled from sources svn rev. 48125 resp. 48128
It's the same for my own and also for more prominent packages as well
(e.g. grid).

Problem with stale smdb processes when users log out
I'm running Samba 3.0.0-15 (default install) on a Fedora FC1 machine.
I've attached the smb.conf file below. The Samba server is acting as a
WINS server on our testlab network, but is not a PDC, nor is it joined
into a domain. Users authenticate by using a username/password that is
local to the Samba server.
The problem I'm seeing is that when a user has been connected to the

smdb bind error
Hello List,
I am working with COL 2.3 and samba-2.0.5. When I /etc/rc.d/init.d
samba start I get an error message in the smbd log file that says "bind
failed on port 139 socket_addr=0.0.0.0 (Address already in use). What
is causing this?
What do I need to do to fix it.

the attached patch.

The issue appears to be in this call:

Ubuntu feisty: trouble with vmware-player host-guest access...
I post here this ''user'' triuble because i suppose it came from some
strange kernel (mis)configuration.
I''ve just upgrade from edgy to feisty, and the communication between
guest and host in bridge mode stop working.
And in a rather, at least for me, strange way.
I can ping from host to guest:
root@host:~# ping guest
PING guest (10.5.2.120) 56(84) bytes of data.

SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi,
I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file:
[root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/
[root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al

Samba 3.0.37 with Windows Server 2008
I'm running Windows Server 2008 and trying to connect to Samba 3.0.37 on Opensolaris. The Samba system is a member of a Windows Server 2008-based Active Directory domain - it was able to join the domain just fine - and Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 can connect, but Windows Server 2008 SP2 cannot connect. The log file is posted below - I'm guessing the key is the

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix
DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it.
Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then
use TAO. Then it gave up.
So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things.
Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a

WARNING: OpenSSH BREAKS Solaris utmp!!
Hi,
there have been several posts regarding Solaris utmp and OpenSSH
problems. The posts I have read, mentioned that using the 'w' command
does not show the correct output when loging on.
For me, openssh-2.1.0p2, Solaris 2.7, sparc the problem goes much
further. After a couple SSH logins, the utmp(x)? file gets screwed up
so badly, that telnet logins are NOT accepted anymore by

smbclient and large file support
smbclient (and smbtar) in version 2.2.7a (and prior) has problems with
large files (> 4GB). The following patch (against 2.2.7a) fixes all
known problems with this. This code has been checked into the CVS tree
in all branches as well.
