samba 3.06rc2, suse 64amd and os2
Hi,
I am having a lot of trouble with getting 0s2 to talk with samba. They
seem to be making the right noises at handshake time, and seem to set
up a session no problems (using ethereal, monitoring packets).
However, when it comes to actually transferring information (such as
doing a listing of a share from the os2 box) it crashes with the error:

OS2 - Samba
Hi there,
I tried to connect OS2 Warp 4 to Samba server. The network used to be NT 4.0 Domain, then migrated to Samba to become Domain Controller. I've followed below instruction, and still can't login to the domain. I can get an IP address and ping the Samba server, but can't login to domain and map any network share.

Temp files created on read-only share
Hello, All.
We have Samba 2.0.7 running on Red Hat 6.2 (up for 351 days!) and have discovered the following
anomaly:
There is a share called "appsg" that contains a number of folders, including one called
OfficeTemplates. The share definition in smb.conf is:
[appsg]
comment = Apps in Applications
path=/home/applications/apps

Fw: Poor performance getting lots of small files with WinXP/Win2k vs OS2
Hi,
We're doing some of performance tests with Linux Samba v3.
We're comparing WinXP/Win2k clients vs OS2 clients accessing a samba
server.
For one test, we're coping 10.000 small files.
Let's say, we run the command copy \\sambaserver\10000files\*.*
c:\data\10000files
With an OS2 client it takes 23 seconds to complete.
With an Windows client it takes 460 seconds to complete.

Migration from samba 2.2.5 to 3.0.9
Hello,
I make the migration of linux machine where I use smbfs to mount an IFS
drive from an iSeries and I have troubles with Samba 3.0.9
The "Old" Computer : RH 8.0, Samba 2.2.5
The "New" Computer : Sarge, kernel 2.6.8, Samba 3.0.9
When I make "mount -t smbfs -o //as400/qdls /mnt/as400", all seems good but
when I make an ls /mnt/as400/*, I receive this error

extended attributes, samba and OS2
Hi,
I appologise if this totally irritates people as there seems to be quite
a lot of info about this issue but a lot of it is quite old, for samba
2.x and kernels around 2.0 also. I have been beating my head against it
for a little while - bumped into a dead end now ;(
I am running centos-3 x86_64 (RH ES equiv) with samba 3.0.7-1 as the
server, and OS2 as the client. Kernel is 2.4.21-20.EL.

syncing unix passwords
I give up. I had this working and now it isn't and I don't know why. I was
able to sync unix password using smbpasswd but now it won't work. When I
run smbpasswd it changes the samba password but acts like it doesn't even
see the parameters in the smb.conf to change the unix password.
Here is a sample changing session:
as400:# ./smbpasswd xxxxxx
New SMB password:

Samba Migration
Well, I have successfully migrated about 75 Windows 95/98 machines over to
using Samba as a PDC, it works better than I expected. Much faster than NT
or OS2. However I have a few questions? There are a couple of machines
that will not use the Samba box to authenticate. I know that the network
config on these machines is correct as they were working before, and the net
properties have been set

UPDATE: syncing unix passwords
I have some new information concerning this issue. I am now able to change
both the samba and unix passwords as anyone but root. If I try as root I
only am able to change the samba password but not the unix password. I can
do this at the unix prompt as well as in swat. So it works but why root
can't change both of them makes no sense to me. root can't even change both

SAMBA and Windows 95
Hi All,
I am new to the job of System Administrator and even
newer to SAMBA. I have managed to set up SAMBA on Solaris so
that from a Windows 95 machine I can map a drive to a point on
the Unix machine. This works fine.
What I am stuck at is an issue of security. I have been
asked to work out how to limit the users that can access the mapped
drive. ie., if someone walks into the office

lan manager on OS2 and samba
Hi,
I am running suse 64amd v9.1 fully patched using samba with the view to
convert from a current old OS2 setup. There is a requirement to have
samba available to winnt, win2k clients as well as some OS2 clients.
Having built the box and set up samba as I would for a normal
windows/linux setup, I am now having problems with samba being available
to the lan manager clients. The NT and w2k

Win2k and Win9x printer drivers from 2.0.7?
Hello, All.
Is it possible to have a Samba 2.0.7 server provide printer drivers for both
Windows 98 and 2000 clients? I'm currently delivering Win98 drivers with
great success, but we're beginning to have Windows 2000 clients on the
network and I've been unable to trick Samba 2.0.7 into providing the proper
files. Note that the Samba server provides just file and print services;

It works under W2k, but not under W98, although W98 tells
it is running startup-script ..
First my smb.conf (only interesting parts) :

server string = Samba-PDC %v on %h
workgroup = WORKGROUP
encrypt passwords = yes
netbios name = 486dx66

Problems Printing w/ Caldera OpenServer
I am having problems getting Samba configured so I can print. I am going from Windows XP to Samba. I don't get any error messages in Windows saying that there is a problem. It sends the document then that is it. It is like the document gets lost. I am able to print through Linux and WebMin. What should I look at next? I am using the latest version of Caldera OpenServer. I believe the version

how to check open connections/files without smbstatus / swat
Hi,
I have one user who should be able to _view_ all open files and
connections on a samba server.
He should not be allowed to login to the server by telnet or ssh to use
smbstatus, nore should he be able to use swat as long as he could view
the configfile.
So my question: is there a way to configure swat for one user to only
view the opened connections? Or dose someone has an other idea?
