Keeping local Profiles in WinNT and W2K
Yesterday I moved my LAN domain from a W2K server to Samba and I have problems logging on to my WinNT 4 machine using local profiles. My boss's computer is a freshly installed W2K and it had no problem at all with the change. My computer is a WinNT4 SP 6 and when I tried to log on with my user it said it couldnt find the profile and logged me off immediately. I used to have a roaming

Win 9x and WinNT Clients connecting to Samba-Server
Hello, I know I should get rid of the problem by my own, but unfortunally I failed. So I ask: I`ve a subnet of win9x and WinNT clients connecting to our Linux file server (no more servers in this subnet) via samba 2.02. All win95 can see and mount services of the Samba server. But win98 and WinNT can only see the server but can not connect to a service. I`ve no encryption and security= user in

Print to Win98, WinNT
Hi SMBers, I have a problem when trying print to Win98 via Samba: When I use print script ( included near at the end of SMB-HOWTO) to print a text file, I've got perfect printout, but when I use it to print some html page, I've got ASCII text of PS file that I want to print. If I print to file then use ghostview to view the file, so it seems to me that fine! What is wrong ? How can I fix

Win2K registry not loading correctly
Hi, I've noticed that my Win2K registry just won't load correctly. In Win2K regedit nothing shows up at all - not even home registry values - and in Win98 regedit (running in my w2k configured wine) only few values show up, I believe those are my home registry values. Here's the relevant stuff from config, built with winesetup: [Drive H] "Path" = "/mnt/winnt"

OT: WinNT(2000) player to open files with unicode names?
Sorry for posting somewhat off-topic... Most my music files have names in hebrew (FAT32 partition). I dual-boot between a hebrew win98 (where these files are opened nicely by winamp, freeamp and any other program) and a hebrew win2000, where windows media player is the only program I've seen so far to open them. All others say "can't open file ???? ?? ???.ogg" (or .mp3) - both

two printers: one works ok in w9x/2k, other printer unavailable in Win98 BUT ok in w2k!
Hi all, I try to explain my strange Samba problem: I've done a linuxbox with Mandrake 8.2 distro; installed Samba 2.2 packages and two printers attached via parallel port: one works with the motherboard built-in parallel port, the other is connected via a pci parallel port card. Both works fine on win2000 clients (and on the linuxbox, too :); on windows 98 clients, both printers are

Windows 2k/XP and roaming profiles
Hi I'm finding it takes ages to download a roaming profile from the server when I log into Win2k or XP. A 4Mb profiles typically takes about 2 minutes (and 2 minutes to write back when I log out). I did a test and copied the profile directory from the server to my PC. Running under Win98 takes 1-2 minutes. Under 2K/XP it takes nearly 5 minutes. However, a single file of 4Mb only takes about

Samba password and WinNT server password files
Clueless and more clueless - ok - am a total newbie here with linux and I thought we would get our feet wet using Linux Mandrake 8.1. Installed like a charm but I have a few questions regarding SMB with a WINNT network. I have been reading the newsgroup and am confused on a few issues. What we want to do: Replace a Windows PC acting as a printer server with linux Samba version 2.2.1a

Samba shares accessible from Win98 but not WinNT
The subject line says it all really. I'm running Samba 2.0.4.b on FreeBSD, sharing a tree as I normally do (we use samba on about a dozen machines so I'm reasonably familiar with it). This one particular machine is not accessible from Windows NT Workstation 4.0 clients. It works fine for Windows 95 and Windows 98 clients. The machine does not show up in the Network Neighborhood for

access denied when trying to connect XP to samba-2.2.1a-4 PDC
Ok, Heres the setup: RH 7.2 with samba-2.2.1a-4. I have had samba as a PDC for sometime now, and WINNT & WIN2k systems have no problem logging on to the domain. Whenever I try from my XP pro test sys, I get: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "WORKGROUP"; Access is denied. I do have a trust account set up for this system, and I manually added the trust

Slow File transfer between Samba and Win2k
I have a Samba file server and a dual boot Win98/Win2k client. Copying file from the Client in Win98 to the Samba server gives no problems: (I copied one 6 mb file) Samba server -> Win98 Client 550 kb/s Samba server <- Win98 Client 500 kb/s But then from Samba server to Win2k Client: Samba server -> Win2k Client 190 kb/s Samba server <- Win2k Client 18 kb/s Because of

Win2K can't print to a Samba Printer?
Hello, ** Please CC replies to ian@ichilton.co.uk as I am not subscribed ** I have a Brother laser printer connected to a linux box running Samba. It is working fine from Win98 workstations, but now I have Win2K on my laptop, I am unable to print. This is because the linux box obviously doesn't have the win2k driver so I tried to install it as a local printer and then change it to a network

Adding Printer Drivers for existing Printers (Win2000, WinNT x86)
Hi List! I've got a problem that I've read about on the web several times now, regarding the uploading of printer drivers to the samba [print$] share. When I try to set the printer driver for an existing printer (HP LaserJet 6L enabled with CUPS) the W2K wizard let me select the driver *.inf file but when finishing I get the well known error message: "Unable to install Intel,

Multi-user databases (DOS application) in WIndows XP and Windows 2k file locking problem
Hello all! I discover a strange thing. We use and develop DOS financial accounting application, written on Xbase (formerly known as Clipper). This application agressively uses of file sharing and locking (byte-range and all possible for DOS combinations), creates and uses huge amount of index (NTX) and Dbase III (DBF) files on network shared resource. Network clients are Windows 98se,

Migrating WINNT to SAMBA PDC
Hello Everyone, I have read all the man pages and the "HOW-TO-PDC..." related to the operation and configuration of SAMBA. I don't however, see anything detailing a move away from WinNT to SAMBA PDC. Can someone point me to a doc or website that has helped them migrate as smooth as possible? I heard there is a way of grabbing passwords using pwdump, users uid, and the Domain ID.

Windows 95/98 Generic Text Driver and rpcclient
I'm using Samba 3.0.0-2 on Redhat 8 as a print server. Everything seems to be working well except the Windows 4.0 Generic Text drivers. I've set up the W32X86 drivers and they work perfectly under XP/2000, but I cant seem to figure out the Win9x situation. I installed the Generic Driver and printed a test page under Win98 to get the list of files it uses, but unfortunatly they are not as
