Alternative Auth Methods.
hi, Are there any alternative authentication methods for Samba? Other thank the smbpasswd file? I'd like to do PostgreSQL or mySQL. Why? Because I can do Exim/IMAP/POP3 Apache/Zope with SQL, if I could do Samba it would wrap it up into one nice DB for authentication. It does not have to be much, just the ability to get the data from a SQL query rather than a flat file query. Anyone

Local administrator access
Hi all After a fair bit of fiddling around I've managed to get our XP Pro and Win2K Pro machines to log into our Samba 2.2.2 Domain. However, we now have the problem of not having local administrator access to our own machines. This means that we can't change things like hardware, etc. or even install programs. Does anyone know how to get around / fix this? I would like to get around

Samba w/ WAN.
hi, I'm going to be setting up Samba with a WAN and VPN. On one end of the network (my end) it will be Samba on a Linux box and some NT and 98 PCs. On the other end of the WAN it will be Windows only. I'd like to know if we need to be able to route anything other than TCP packages. Like NetBIOS or something else Windows may use. Thanks, J.

choosing an appropriate linear model
I am trying to model the observed leaching of wood preservative chemicals from treated wood during an outdoor experiment where leaching is caused by rainfall events. For each rainfall event, the amount of rainfall was recorded as well as the amount of preservative chemical leached. A number of climatic variables were measured, but the most important is the amount of rainfall. I have tried a

Access Windows AD share From Linux
I am trying to mount and access a Windows share, from one of our Active Directory servers to one of our RedHat Enterprise 4 Linux hosts. I have used Samba in the past to do the opposite, which worked very well. I was successful in mounting the share, using the following: mount -t smbfs -o username=<myid>,password=<mypassword> //<AD Server>/<Share> /mnt/app1

Calculating file size.
hi, Here's an interesting one... If I view the files on my Samba server, the file size is reported differently depending on if I'm looking from WinXX or Win2k. That is, if I do a 'properties' on a file with Windows ME for instance, I see 'Size' and 'Size on Disk' numbers that seem reasonable. Size on Disk is slightly larger which seems reasonable. But if I look

Strange: Repeatedly lose domain functionality
Hello All Since several weeks, we face a very strange problem with a samba pdc and ldapsam. It repeatedly seems to loose its pdc functionality. This brings very strange behaviours. The server is then already accessable (shares and browsing works as expected), but the windows machines cannot make a domain logon anymore (has then a priori no effect because they use their cached password),

Cross Subnet Browsing.
hi, I need a hand setting up cross subnet browsing. Does anyone have some good news group postings, or a HOWTO? I have 2 samba servers, and 2 subnets. Each servers sits on it's own domain/workgroup. I think this should be much simpler than it is, and perhaps I am just missing one or two settings. Of the 2 servers: A, B I would like 'A' to do any serving or hold any

How to provide local auth and remote domain access.
Here is the situation: I have a local Samba server with a domain called DOMA. I have win98 and win2k users that authenticate to DOMA and use the server as a file and print service. Now, there is also a remote Win2K server that is known as DOMB and users also have resources on that system they require access to. Can I join the Samba DOMA to the win2K DOMB domain and share resources between them

When I restart asterisk, I am able to make local calls for some time, but it then suddenly stops working again. I am using pjsip stack. What could be the cause of this? selinux allow apache log access
Hey guys,. I have a centos 7 machine I'm using as a zabbix server. And I noticed that apache won't start, with this complaint in the error log: (13)Permission denied: AH00091: httpd: could not open error log file /var/log/zabbix_error_log. AH00015: Unable to open logs I tried having a look at audit2allow and this is the response I get back: [root at monitor2:/etc/httpd] #grep http

CentOS 7 on PPC64le booting from a MD RAID volume
I've been trying to install CentOS 7 AltArch ppc64le onto a new Power 8 system and I want to configure mdraid for the volumes.? I can get everything working if I install to a single disk, but when I configure for RAID 1, the system fails to boot. So, is mdraid1 supported for booting a Power 8 system? Memory leak in nleqslv()
Hello all, I am relatively new to R, but enjoying it very much. I am hoping that someone on this list can help me with an issue I am having. I am having issues with iterations over nleqslv, in that the solver does not appear to clean up memory used in previous iterations. I believe I've isolated the/my issue in a small sample of code: library(nleqslv) cons_ext_test <- function(x){

user nobody can't access file
Hey guys, I need to give the 'nobody' user (which is what our apache runs as) no password access to a file, via sudo. This is what I've tried: nobody ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: /var/www/qa/launchpadnew/site/ftp_check.php But if I become the nobody user and try to access the file, it tries to prompt me for a password: -bash-3.2$ php /var/www/qa/launchpadnew/site/ftp_check.php [sudo]
