Packaging under Win32 / cygwin : ZoneAlarm conflict [solved]
just for the record... recently I have had quite some problems with package building under Win XP. After some searching I found out that it was nothing R was to be blamed for but rather my firewall, i.e.; ZoneAlarm. As it seems, this problem has gone unnoticed so far --- I only found Marc Schwartz's posting http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/devel/03b/0246.html in the R-lists-archives.

Hi. When I try to use rsync 2.5.7 from a Windows 2000 machine with CygWin and ZoneAlarm Pro 4.5.538, I get this error: Read from remote host myweb.com: Connection reset by peer rsync: read error: Connection reset by peer rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at /home/lapo/packaging/tmp/rsync-2.5.7/io.c(177) And this is the command that I am executing: rsync -vaz

Application Blocking
On my windows machine I use a software fire will called ZoneAlarm. One feature I like Is the ability to block applications from using the net. I''ve looked with Shorewall and wonder if it does, or was ever meant to. Not a complaint, a curiosity. Kev -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... browser connection issue to http://localhost:3000/ on XP ?
http://www.ruby-forum.com/topic/73035#new Hi, I think I have network issue on my XP PC here trying to run up InstantRails and using it. I create an application and run up the server "ruby scripts/server" and it runs up, but then when I try to browse to it the browser just sits and spins and doesn''t connect :( Note that I posted this at

Re: [SLE] Samba, CUPS, or ?
I don't believe the problem is with CUPS itself as the printer does print locally from the command line and from scripts. If the CUPS daemon was going dead, printing wouldn't work at all. Since the issue is also that windows systems (which now include XP Pro and XP Home laptops I tested on the network) AREN'T SEEING THE PRINTER IN ANY NETWORK BROWSING COMPONENT -- NETWORK

It' s almost exactly what I looked for, at least, to remain working "compurers/devices list" . I re-set all possible servers/clients to using the new technology. I built without Debian deb

Blocking workgroup discovery
Hi all, At my work I`ve set up a VPN. When I connect to it, my colleagues see all the workgroups from my side of the VPN (I live on a campus with ~50 workgroups). Do you know how I block the workgroup discovery on through the VPN gateway? Is the broadcast done on a specific port? Is samba actively repeating the broadcast and their replies? Greetings Tjerk Jan

Why can't I see this share machine in Network Neighborhood
Help! I have a simple home network. I have samba [2.2.7a] running with the smb.conf file listed below. I can see this machine in network neighborhood on a Win98 machine and a WinNT 4.0 machine, but I cannot see this share from a Win2K machine. If I issue a net use command from the cmd window on the Win2K machine I can mount the share and then open it as normal. WHY can't I see

Firewall for virtual machines
I realize I'm not getting a lot of questions answered here lately, and I'm going to presume that this is for legitimate reasons (i.e., people don't know or are too busy to think about it), not because they seem stupid (if they do, please tell me, on the list or privately). I run Windows as a VMWare guest on top of my CentOS host, and I generally have not used a firewall on the guest.

Problem with network browsing
A reasonable alternative is to run Christgau's excellent Web Service Discovery host daemon (wsdd) on the samba server and make sure the Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication services are running on the Windows 10 machines. Get wsdd from here: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd.git You can then stop and disable the nmbd on the samba machines as it's
