partition magic messed up my magic number
Hi,
I've been foolish enough to let Partition-Magic move/resize/etc. my partitions without a prior backup.
My ext3 /dev/hda7 (was RH 9) is no longer recognised by fsck.
I tried fsck -b 8139, 32768 and 65536 - but am not quite sure
about if these are the right ones to try.
So far I created another partition with same number of blocks and did a backup with
dd if=/dev/hda7 of=/dev/hda8

syslinux 6.03 bug related to rev shadow and scroll bar with vshift
I thought I've found three bugs on syslinux 6.03:
(1) With sample config file as is, i.e. leaving commented MENU VSHIFT
and MENU COLOR UNSEL but uncommented MENU COLOR SEL:
A black "border" is displayed below the selected line and on its right edge.
(2) Uncommenting MENU COLOR UNSEL:
This effect appears also on separators and on right edge on every
unselected lines.

Strange Fedora Booting problem: can not mount "LABEL=*" partitions
Hi,
Just got Fedora FC1 vanilla 2.4.25kernel+libata8patch booting problems, FC1 complains that it can not automatically find&found partitions specified with "LABEL=" in /etc/fstab, and then falls me into repair mode. In the repair mode I can mount it manually without any problems. More interesting are: 1) I have several partitions specified with "LABEL=*" in

openSUSE in domU on a CentOS dom0
Hi there,
I am new to Xen. Just began trying it out from day-before.
I have a CentOS 4.4 install on my hda6 partition. And I have a
openSUSE 10.2 install on my hda8 partition.
For openSUSE 10.2, I chose the Xen options while installing, and so I
have the xen kernels too installed. For CentOS 4.4, I downloaded the
Xen 3.0.2 source and compiled from there. (I followed the instructions

Using rsync to syncronize two unmounted disk partitions
Hi everybody,
I have been using rsync for quite some time, and I've realized it is a
fantastic tool. As it is able to syncronize two CD images, I was
wondering, if I could do that with a harddisk partition. Would it be
possible to syncronize two partitions at device level somehow?
I mean using:
# rsync /dev/hda8 /dev/hda9
skipping non-regular file "hda8"
where /dev/hda8

Danger! An user can delete root's files!!!
Hi,
I use a Red Hat Linux 7.2 with all the upgrade found on the RedHat website installed. I also have update the KDE to the version 2.2.2.
During the installation I set a mountpoint /master on hda8 but at the first reboot I changed the /etc/fstab to mount the /misc on that partition. Now if root create a file in /misc A NORMAL USER CAN DELETE IT!! This happen only in the /misc directory.

2.4.9-ac18; issues with '/'
Hello,
I just went back to 2.4.9-ac18 from 2.4.10 (i386), and then
for the first time migrated all my ext2 partitions to ext3. I
did this over a series of reboots, as I confirmed that indeed
things continued to work. The last step I took was to convert
/.
I have set up /etc/fstab to mount my 'ext3' partitions with
'auto', I suppose thinking this will make it easier to roll

root fs not mounting ext3
I am using SuSE 7.3 compiled ext3 support into the kernel and installed it.
All my partitions load up as ext3 except / . I ran tune2fs several times,
still doesn't take on the / drive. Most recent dumpe2fs -h show no features
on that drive=, I keep going around in circles, removing .journal from / and
running tune2fs but it never works for /
What am I doing wrong? ( thanks in advance)

help
High all,
In WinXP, I have created file "image.iso" using mkisofs, but unable to
postprocess with the "isohybrid".
I worked as follows:
cd F:\syslinux-4.05\utils
F:\syslinux-4.05\utils> isohybrid F:\image.iso
and received >'isohybrid' is not recognized as an internal or external
command,
operable program or batch file.
What next?
Thanks in advance.
