lower/upper case question
Dear R People:
Is there a function to convert a character string to all uppercase or
all lowercase please?
I'm sure that I've used one before but I'm drawing a blank.
Thanks,
Erin

samba and case switching.
Hello,
I'm using samba 2.05a on my slackware linux box and have just noticed
something very weird. When I copy a file via network neighborhood in 98
to my home directory on the linux box the file is converted to all
uppercase. Under windows even though it isn't case sensitive the first
letter of each word is capitalized, but when I look at the files under
linux they're all in

Authentication with lower case username ONLY
Hi,
how do you guys force your users to authenticate with lower case letters
ONLY? Or convert it?
Is there a SASL Option to force that - or are you using scripts i.e. a
bash script in combination with the command "tr" ... or a third solution
I didn't think of yet?
I'm using Postfix / Dovecot combination. Postfix is told to use Dovecots
SASL Service to authenticate it's

netbios alias upper case file name problem
Hi,
everybody there.
I get problems when using netbios alias with samba 3.04a.
Upper case file names for alias will not work for me.
I have to change to lower case file name.
for example, config file "SMB.CONF.BACKUP_SVR-1" for alias server
BACKUP_SVR-1 will not work until I change the file name to
"smb.conf.backup_svr-1".
How can I fix the problem? I like to use uppercase.

[PATCH 3/5] mllib: Add (Char|String).(lower|upper)case_ascii functions.
These functions come from upstream OCaml (4.03) where they were

some upper case letters with accent don't appear in file names
I have a backup server (Linux Debian 3.1) that connects to several Windows
2000 and 2003 servers shares with smbmount 3.0.14a. This is how I mount the
shares:
smbmount "\\\\win2000\\inetpubd" /mnt/win2000/ -o
username=backups,password=mypwd
If I list items with accents, this is a sample of how they appear on the
mounted share:
drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 2005-12-01 16:45 D?but de

Problems with lower and uppercase filenames
Hi, I just subscribed to this list to see if I can get a solution to the
following problem.
I've spent a couple of hours looking though the man pages, google, etc
but haven't found a solution.

Samba Version 2.2.3a

windbind and AD authentication - UPPER CASE usernames?
We're looking at using windbind and AD for our user account details but have run into a small snag. All user accounts in AD are upper case but our linux accounts are lower-case.
Is there a simple solution we've overlooked?
We really don't want to have to hack this...
Thanx,

Problem with upper case extension names
It seems as if there is a problem if one uses Local/SomeName at some_context in
a Dial application. If the extension is changed to somename then things
work.
I have an extension SomeName defined. In another extension I try to dial
this extension and it does not work saying extension/context not found. The
extension displayed has uppercase characters so the case is not lost.
If I change the

Username case mangling -- Linux username is mixed-case, Samba returns lower-case
I have a problem that I first observed when I upgraded from
3.0.24 to 3.0.28 and is, I believe, related to the introduction
of the "printjob username" configuration parameter.
I print via CUPS and the Cups-PDF driver wants to know the
Linux username (so it can put the PDF in the proper location).
The problem is that "printjob username = %U" results in
a lowercase username

Unicode support--case sensitive in share name
Hi all:
I create one share named gr?zer but the share can?t be accessed.I looked into the log, and find the share name will be transformed to upper case and then lower case. The ASCII can be transformed in between successfully, but German can?t. It leaded to access failed. I also tried the upper case share gr?zer, and it works successfully. It seems the lower case can?t be transformed back

Lower and Upper Case and MS C# FilesystemWatcher
Hi all,
I'm trying to find a way to make the C# FilesystemWatcher class distinguish between Linux mixed lower and upper case files on a Samba share. E.g., file A is called abc.JPG and file B is abc.jpg, and Linux knows that's two files - now, when I delete such a file via a Samba share, both files A and B are deleted.
I did not find a solution at Google or in this list, so any help or

Trouble with user who has mixed case login (upper and lower)
We're having an issue with a user who has a login with mixed case - we'll
call him "USERone".
Samba does not recognize him; it says that the "user does not exist" even
though he does - and we're using the correct case for each letter. We
would rename him to an all lower case name, but he there are multiple
folders, files, and groups and processes that we'd

Upper, lower case filenames...
Hello,
It is fairly important for a Windows NT machine
to be able to see all unix filenames as lower-case
files. I have set
# Case Preservation can be handy - system default is _no_
# NOTE: These can be set on a per share basis
preserve case = yes
; short preserve case = yes
# Default case is normally upper case for all DOS files
default case = lower

Something about Upper/Lower-case
Hi,
We are using SAMBA on Solaris and AIX and discovered a funny
thing. (A bug ??) (We had tried on a Linux-box as well and have same
result.)
SAMBA AFTER VER. 2.0.0 returns the full path in both UPPER and LOWER case,
eg. DRIVERLETTER:\DIR\DIR\DIR\filename.txt
This is a problem for us do to Unix case-sensitive.
Our devel.dep. wrote a litle program using this routine (From the helpfile

upper and lower case filenames
Hello,
i have a great problem with copying files via smbmount and smbclient.
In my source-directory on computer1 i have the files
sei001 with size 100 bytes
and
SEI001 with size 200 bytes.
After copy these files to computer2 in the destination directory there only
SEI001 with the size of 100 bytes has arrived.
Samba does the following:
It copies the file SEI001 to the destination and then
