NT Domain vs DNS
Please forgive newness here. Have accepted job as
network administrator coming from a helpdesk type
position. One task in front of me is upgrading
an NT domain. I want to use Samba to replace it, and
have been reading the Howto, FAQ's etc.
The current NT domain is a singularly named "WMHS"

Internet connection. Now they have a

Changing DC from external to internal DNS
I set up two AD DC with external bind and it used to work for a while.
Following a Bind9 upgrade named complained about missing SOA and NS
records in the DLZ zones and could not be started anymore.
Monday, due to a misinterpretation of some queries, I restarted Bind on
the hitherto working system and I got the same error messages. No
nothing changed - no changes in configuration, no updates.

BIND as DNS Slave of SAMBA 4 Internal DNS and Windows 2008
As explained in some other thread here you can set up a Bind server with
zone type forward for that DNS server forward every requests to your DC
(declared as forwarders in these zones).
No need of proxy, no need of building master/slaves, just add:
zone "domainwin.com" IN {
type forward;
forward only;
forwarders {
<IP of some DC in that domain>;
<IP of some other

Response time.
If one does not possess delegated authority for ones own forward zone
or for the IP address block reverse zone, and thus must operate an
authoritative server

Samba4 Internal DNS and pfSense DNS Resolver
I have implemented a small local network. I use pfSense as Firewall and Gateway, I have all my servers inside a DMZ, except the domain controllers that are on the LAN.
LAN: 10.10.20.0/24
DMZ: 10.10.30.0/24
