No time to study this now but: The first line in your smb.conf file will I believe load an entirely different config file. I don't believe the rest of you smbd.conf will be used. Since the root file just contains browsable, that isn't much of a smbd.conf file. Joel

Joel@hammershome.com: Re: smbclient error
A service is a share made available by samba or by the windows computer. smbclient -L hostname will list the services on the host. smbclient \\\\hosthame\\service will attach to the service For example: smbclient \\\\hammer1\\public will attach to the share public on host hammer1 Joel Joel On Sun, Dec 16, 2001 at 03:12:35PM -0800, Lamar Seifuddin wrote: > Joel, > > thanks for

Yes they all were sussessful except for the test I couldnt perform. I can see the linux icon in win neighborhood , but get server not accessible when I click the icon. It must have something to do with the ns lockup in the windoze. Joel Hammer <Joel@HammersHome.com> skrev: And, they all were successful? (I don't take anything for granted.) RE smbmounts hang around after windows client disconnects
Joel, Just so you know you are not alone - I had exact same problem the other day. I was confused because it had successfully copied the 1Gb of files and then hung during disconnection. Windows source was a 2000 server. I realised afterwards that I had not compiled 2.2.2 --with-smbmount and was using the RH installed version (Version 2.0.6) but have yet tried it again. can someone PLEASE tell me how to mount a share with all stuff world
Ok, on local machine, everyone can do anything they want in /share and all it's files/subdirs On remote machine, everyone can do whatever they want on /share, but no one can do ANYTHING in it's subdirs. >From: Joel Hammer <Joel@HammersHome.com> >To: David Cougle <dcougle@hotmail.com>, samba@lists.samba.org >Subject: Re: [Samba] can someone PLEASE tell me how to

are being offered by the server. You can check also what shares are being offered by the windows boxes the same way. I wonder why the other windows machines are not showing up in network neighborhood? Try sharing some things between windows machines. Maybe you have something misconfigured on the windows side. There is a script, findsmb, which comes with samba. First turn off nmbd (killall nmbd) ,

Also what is the parameter 'socket address = 0.0.0.0'?, is that like 'interfaces'? /B -----Original Message----- From: Joel Hammer [mailto:Joel@HammersHome.com] Sent: Sunday, June 16, 2002 15:20 To: David Busby; samba@lists.samba.org Subject:

SV: SV: Problem regarding installation
OK! I'm sorry about this. As I wrote earlier I'm totally lost... but I will try to explain the problem in steps bellow, ok. 1. I installed the rpm's for samba, Version 2.0.2a-ssl I think this is the version distributed with redhat linux 7.0 2. Then I changed the parameters in the /etc/samba/smb.conf file, and in this file I added the folowing parameters. [global] netbios name

Hello Joel, Thank you very much for your reply. I tried use the same print command under UNIX as I have in sam.conf, it works well. Do you have any futher ideas? BTW, could you tell me where I find docs about print using Samba2.2.2 and W2K? Thanks a lot, Grace What happens when you print a postscript file from the samba server directly using the same print command as you have in smb.conf?

Re-post : Windows 98 cann't connect to samba
I get the same problem and have struggled on this for 4 days. My Linux box has RH8.0 on it and is networked with a Windows 98 PC What I have done: (1) Follow the instructions on "The Official Red Hat Linux Customization Guide" and config smb.conf (2) Run the test in DIAGNOSIS.txt, failed in step 5. (3) Step 7 is OK, which means local smb client can connect to smbd service and

Fw: Fw: file refresh on windows 98 client
No idea. I would just be guessing. So, I'll guess. oplocks are buggy and different versions of windows handle them differently. Just don't use oplocks. re: Samba up, but not listening
I am confused by this paragraph: > I have looked at the Redhat firewall. I have even > tried copying its smb.conf file to no avail. smb.conf has nothing to do with the Redhat firewall. I use ipchains but Redhat likely used a more advanced firewall, that I can't really help you with much, if that is your problem. Joel

for this process is "root", that is correct. The PID 7247 is one of the users, but the UID shouldn't be "root" and should be the username that was authenticated during logon. Anyone have same or similar problem? and how do I prevent this problem from happening again? I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Will Sun wsun@jpl.nasa.gov (818) 354-2311 Return-Path:

FW: Newbie Help
I guess you are in what I think of as "Newbie Hell." It sounds like you are learning linux like a lot of people, all by yourself. That's how I did it, and it is maddening and worse, very time consuming. The important thing is not to keep hitting your head against the brick wall over and over. So, what to do. First, I would join a linux email support group. I belong to a very good
