Hi everyone, we are working in an big NT environment and now have a new Unix-area. What i want to do, is to change the unix login passwords according to changes in the NT system. The aim is, to simplify the password system, so that the users only have ONE password for everyting. Independend where they change it or on what system they are working on. sg device
What is the "sg" device? The reason I ask, is that I have a file server running CentOS 4.2 on a Dell Precision 1650. Disks are attached via QLogic FC. I backup to a Qualstar TLS-4222 tape changer, with AIT-2 tapes, which is connected over an Adaptec 29160 Ultra 160 SCSI. The software I'm using is Legato Networker version 7.1.2. I'm backing up a bit under 1 TB a month

One NT & Unix Password
I have used samba for the past two years using an NT Server as my PDC/password server and AIX for mounting samba shares and printing. The AIX host also runs other applications that require telnet login. I would like to stream line the password policy process (i.e.. only one password for NT/Win98 and Unix logins without the user having to do separate processes to change passwords). I understand

Winbind in Samba 2.2.5 not automatically mapping the NT users with corresponding UNIX accounts
Have you tried in smb.conf username map = /usr/local/samba/lib/domainuser.map winbind use default domain = no For every user you have to create an entry in the /usr/local/samba/lib/domainuser.map, that looks like <unixusername> = "<domainname>+<username>" I?m using a script that generates the domainuser.map automaticly, because our users are using NIS

Lots of ERRbadfile and Expected SMBtrans2 responses with smbclient
Hi all, I am using Amanda and smbtar for backing up Windows machines. However, in addition to the errors I get on open files (which is to be expected), I am getting errors on files that should be fine to access. Here is a snippet from the Amanda log which contains smbclient errors: ? code 0 opening remote file \ebsco-1064\cueanalysisnew.zip (\ebsco-1064\) ? Expected SMBtrans2 response, got

Mounting SMB shares on SGI IRIX
Hello, We have been successfully using Samba to access Unix filesystems on Windows computers. So far we only had SGI IRIX computers and very few Windows computers. Recently we have started adding Windows clients to the network and now we wish to do the reverse i.e. access Windows shared areas from SGI computers, mainly for backup purposes. We are using Networker to take automated backups.

100GB incremental backups
We've recently migrated my entire University including faculty and staff from Novell to Samba. There's typically 700+ clients connected to the samba server at any given time and thus far there are about 400GB of client's files on the server. Basically every Microsoft Windows user generated file (Word, Excel, whatever) of the entire University gets stored on my Samba server. Obviously

Speaking of backup-software. I heard that legato supports zfs but is anyone using zfs and legato or some other backup-software that can handle multi-TB-file systems (in production)? -- regards Claus

to extend data.frame or not ... that is the question
I am designing a package to analyze fire department data. I created an S4 class called CAD (short for Computer Aided Dispatch data) as part of this package that essentially extends the data.frame class. When the user initializes a CAD object, a data.frame object is broken down into seperate incident data and unit response data that are stored in separate slots. This separation is intentional

Unix/NT file conversion problems
Hi We are having some problems - the majority of our files require ascii transfers between our unix servers and PCs. They are however being transferred as binary for some reason even though they are just plain text files. This means (when going from unix to pc) the files come down without a carriage return at the end of lines. And when going from pc to unix they end up with ^M on the end of each

cant rename directories on NT
Everything is working perfect on win95 but from NT4: I can create, delete and rename files I can create and delete directories Problem: I can't rename created directories from the NT4 workstations on the network. And this is a big problem since NT4 creates a "New Folder" and asks you to type in the name you want. I have a 2.0.6 distribution on a SGI Origin200 Irix6.4 server. I
