New troubleshooting documentation available for download
Folks,
I've placed a link to the PDF version of the "Troubleshooting
Techniques" chapter from the upcoming second edition of "Sam's
Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours" at http://samba.org/docs/.
While this doc can't be placed in the Samba distribution
(Sam's Publishing holds the copyright), the hope is that
making it available for download will help to alleviate

Please Help...Help...Samba 2.2.2 : Problem in Migrating from NT T o Linux File Server with quota and winbind
This seems to be an excessive amount of cross posting. I'm trimming down
the CC list.

BUG + FIX in smbprint
Dear Samba Team,
the smbprint script as provided with Suse7.2 for Samba Version 2.2.0
did not work. The problem was that the file to be printed was not
transfered via stdin after the print - command.
I changed the smbprint script to pass the commands via the -c option.
My changes and comments are marked with MR27092001MR in the smbprint
attached.
I did not find this in the lists, so I hope this

XEN, SuSE 7.2 and AFS
Hallo all,
I installed SuSE9.3 (Kernel 2.6) with XEN environment.
Now I want SuSE7.2 (Kernel 2.4, old glibc and gcc) as guest domain using
AFS. But there are problems during compile an loading the AFS modules.
Does anyone knows, if it is possible to use such an environment?
Regards,
Lars Richter

have a hosts allow or hosts deny line in your smb.conf. If you don't
want samba to do reverse lookups, then comment out any allow/deny hosts
lines in your smb.conf file.

SuSE8.0 and SAMBA crash
Hi all,
We have been using SuSE7.2 and samba (client and server) without any
problems for a few months. Now, we migrated some workstations (samba
clients) to SuSE8.0 and we get segfaults while accessing files mounted
through samba. The segfault happens on the CLIENT side.
Here is our network configuration:
- SuSE7.2 server with default samba server package.
- Few SuSE7.2 workstations

I connect my homedir from the testserver and start Lotus Notes.
Lotus Notes is infamous for it's sensitivity for 'non-optimal' network
connections. Notes tries to lock certain files and complains immediately if
that fails.

Hello all,
Either the docs or the value in smb.conf.default is wrong.

who managed to boot windows from the net.
With the start of Win 98/ME/ etc.etc it's not posible anymore.
I currently use PXE to install machine from the net using bpbatch that
works great only bpbatch is not really under developnt and the script
language is a bit buggy.
I see only one option to boot windows from the net and

[PATCH] 3.0.20, usermgr.exe, and setting group information
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Patch URL: http://samba.org/~jerry/patches/usrmgr_groups_v1.patch
This one fixes issues when setting group information via usrmgr.exe
and 'passdb backend = ldapsam'. The symptom in the logs
is the dreaded "smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root.."
error. Also refer to https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3047

Samba 3.0.12pre1 Available for Download
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

This is a preview release of the Samba 3.0.12 code base and
is provided for testing only. This release is *not* intended
for production servers. However, there have been several bug
fixes and new features added since 3.0.11 that we feel are
important to make available to the Samba community for wider
testing.

patch to configure.in for Solaris/gcc (-KPIC vs. -fPIC)
To Solaris admins....
Here's a patch for 2.2.4 for building on Solaris
using GCC. You'll need to rerun autoconf after
applying....
The second patch removes compiler warnings about
redefinitions of ZERO_STRUCT.
Now winbind should compile on solaris quietly.

FW: Unable to validate owner sid.
Hi,
I havn't herd anything more about this but i have been doing some reading up
on winbindd. It appears that i cant use this anyway as it only works on
Linux at the moment and i'm using Solaris (Is this correct?). I have now
removed winbindd my configuration. I'm still unsure about how to tell if its
the domain SID or the SID of the box.
Cheers
Tom
