Samba over SSH and pam_smb
I have an interresting situation that I am searching for a solution. I want to use pam_smb for authenticating SSH connections to a remote server. The Domain Controller I want to authenticate against is a Win NT 4.0 box located on our internal lan. An idea was given to me to set up an SSH tunnel and forward the relative ports across the internet to a local machine. All of my machines are RedHat

Using Tobit and SUR in Systemfit in R
Dear Community, does anybody have an idea on how to estimate a system of three seemingly unrelated regressions, two of which being TOBIT and one OLS? Background: I am currently estimating a translog cost function and two corresponding cost share equations using systemfit and the seemingly unrelated regression ("SUR") specification. However, I consider it more appropriate to estimate

pam_smb authentication
I am appending some documentation by my colleague Bill Eldridge that was actually written for our dial-up service, but should work for you purposes as well. A couple notes. 1.)The user must exist in /etc/passwd on the Samba machine or login to the Samba box will fail. 2.)In the example, we don't set up home directories for the users, we are using it for dial in and they usually want to

CIFS based NT Authentication for PAM (pam_smb-1.0)
Version 1.0 of my CIFS based NT authentication system for PAM is available from http://www.csn.ul.ie/~airlied/pam_smb/pam_smb-1.0.tar.gz or ftp://ftp.csn.ul.ie/pub/linux/pam/pam_smb/pam_smb-1.0.tar.gz This release has now gotten GNU configure support and should work reliably on Linux RH4.2, RH 5.0 and Solaris 2.6.... If anyone has another platform with PAM could they try it out ... It is also

Referring on the value of a counter in a loop
Dear all The following is a very basic and beginner's question on loops. Suppose you have data (say, 1000 cases) with two variables named "answer" (string) and "class" (numeric). The latter runs from 1 to 78 and categorizes the data. I need to create a file "answer_1.txt" for the cases with class==1, and so on, up to "answer_78.txt" I have been

Looking for Latest pam_smb Package
In integration of Documentum Sever with Active Directory, the instructions point to pam_smb package version 1.9.8 that can be found on the Samba FTP site. How do I get pam_smb version 3.x? _________________________________________ Mehrdad Khoshand 8111 Gatehouse Rd. Falls Church, VA 22042 Phone: 703.289.2199 / Fax: 703-289-2995

pam_smb and 3.4.x
Hello. On a FreeBSD 7 box of mine, I was using Samba 3.0.x as a password backend through pam_smb (http://www.skynet.ie/~airlied/pam_smb/). After an upgrad to 3.4.8/3.4.9, that stopped working. I see no evident reason for that and I'm really lost about where to start debugging. Is there any reason this should not work anymore? Any hint? bye & Thanks av.

Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin
I am a beginner when it comes to using R, though fortunately I already know something about statistics. I think factor analysis should be used sparingly, but I occasionally use it. It doesn't seem to me that factanal() provides Kaiser's Measure of Sampling Adequacy, which should be computed for factor problems based on a small number of subjects, though perhaps it is elsewhere. Does anyone

pam module for ldap/ADS for Solaris 2.8 to communicate with Windows 2000 ADS
Hello, In the third party software that we bought, which runs on Solaris 2.8 Server, we use the pam_smb version 1.9.8 to authenticate our users against the NT Domain. Now, our company is migrating from NT Domain to Windows 2000 ADS Domain in native mode. I saw the documention on SAMBA 3.0 (alpha 1-15), and it states that SAMBA 3.0 is compatible with ldap/ADS of Windows 2000. Have you created

Accessing domain share drives
I'm using SUSE linux 2.4.19-4GB samba-client-2.2.5-226 pam_smb-1.1.6-371 My goal is to configure a Linux desktop into a windows domain environment. So far I have managed to configure pam_smb to authenticate users to the PDC. So thats good. Now the problem is when user tries to browse a share. At the moment the users has to retype in their domain/userid password every time they access a

Differences between Samba-related PAM modules
Several different PAM modules relating to Samba exist. The ones I could find were as follows: pam_smb http://www.csn.ul.ie/~airlied/pam_smb/ Authenticates against an NT domain controller, without joining the domain. (Doesn't work with Active Directory.) pam_ntdom http://www.cb1.com/~lkcl/pam-ntdom/ Based on the above, authenticates against an NT domain. Requires the client to be added to

Files copied from windows box set owner to "nobody";[homes] problem
Hello, I am using Samba 2.2.7 running on Solaris 8. I have also configured pam_smb 1.1.6 to authenticate my user against my NT domain. I have a few problems though: 1) Every time I copy a file from my NT box to one of my Samba shares the owner is set to nobody, the only way I can change this is by logging in as root on the UNIX box and using 'chown'. What am I missing? My smb.conf

winbind/gdm auth failure
Dear Samba-Users, two problems to solve... 1) Trying to authenticate users via pam_winbind against NT-PDC (samba 3.0.4, Debian GNU Linux 3.0). Got shell login and ssh working, but won't be able to login via GDM to gnome or KDE. I do not really understand the difference between login/ssh module stack and gdm module stack. Log auth says something queerish: --- auth.log --- Jul 14 18:34:43

Lastest upgrade of smb on RedHat doesn't work
The latest upgrade of from samba 3.0.9 to samba 3.0.10 has caused problems on my samba server. On the Windows computers you can no longer see the WINS server ( the RedHat server) in the Network Neighborhood, say server1. The printers that we have added through the network neighborhood no longer work. One has to search for the full name of the server ( server1.xxx.xxx.edu) with the

Linux and SMB using single passwd
Hi All, I would like to set up a samba server but using the same user / pass for unix logins and smb logins. This works fine if I use non-encrypted passwords but I have to apply the registry patch to set my win98 clients to use non-encrypted passwords. Could I use pam_smb to authenticate the Linux box against its own smb server then use encrypted smb passwords? I understand that if the smb

RE Linux and SMB using single passwd
Thanks for the reply. This will not quite do what I want as I dont want local unix users, only smb users. Reason: if a smb user is added and only an smb user and the Linux system uses pam _smb, I can deliver pop mail to the user without them having a local unix user. I have this working very well with LDAP and NIS where I only add a NIS or LDAP user but no unix users and I can still deleiver
